Liking the similarity in structure and the colour scheme of the new forum, thanks a lot! Are a lot of users a part of Canucks Twitter here? Maybe we can create a thread with everyones handles and follow each other?

This team succeeds or fails on the back of Petey. He has the ability to take over games and change the outcome. He's my pick.

Wanted Benson, but this is still a solid pick. If he develops well, his game will complement Hughes very well. A bonus that he's also an elite skater.

I still think Juolevi was a good pick at the time (not the best pick, but a good one if that makes sense) just his major back and knee injury really stopped him from ever being able to stick at this level now as he's never been able to fully recover. His hockey IQ and passing ability was very evident during his short tenure.

Benning was doing good (not great) when he was surrounded by good people such as Gilman and Linden. I liked him and was okay with him learning and getting better throughout the years. He brought the heat on himself by creating such a dinosaur management team with letting Gilman go and backstabbing Linden. The moves got progressively worse and worse and more and more desperate. It showed his lack of ability to be a good general manager at this level. I doubt he ever gets in a management role again, but he's made his money and has a Stanley Cup ring to his name, so I'm sure he'll be okay.

[Report] Maple Leafs part ways with GM Kyle Dubas
MrCanuck94 replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in General Hockey Discussion
Dubas is a great young hockey mind and did amazing for his first tenure as a GM. We all get better at our jobs as time goes along. He'll definitely be back in some capacity when he's ready to. The Leafs should really look at Treliving rather than going to someone from the old boys club. -
Love how much OB holds it down for Vancouver and the Canucks organization, even if it was a short tenure, he's a Canuck for life. You can really tell this organization is well aligned head to toe now from the scouts, to the development team, to the coaching staff and to the management team. Let's hope they can build something special like in Pittsburgh.

IMO the only tradeable asset without much negative repercussion on that list is Karlsson. -
[Signing] Canucks re-sign Christian Wolanin

If you go through my post history, you'll see that I'm far from a negative "expert". Making an opinion based on a ten game sample size is also dangerous as it causes a lot of risk, especially going into a new season. I really like all four of those players, but as an organization that has had a weak point in a certain area, the worst thing we can do at this point is wish for the best case scenario from all of them, which can land us back to the place we were early this year. The only legit top 4 value d men that can handle 82 games on our team are Hughes and Hronek. The legit bottom pair value guys we have that can handle 82 games are Dermott, Bear, OEL and Myers (and Schenn if he signs as UFA). I would love it if any of Burroughs, Brisebois, Juulsen and Wolanin could bring bottom pair value for a full 82 games, but at this moment, with next season being crucial to start off on the right foot, we can't rely on them to provide more than 20-40 games depending on their experience. -

Definitely an option, but it seems more and more likely that Barbashev will be our 3C next season. -

MrCanuck94 replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Sorry but that is waaaay overvaluing depth defencemen. Burroughs, Brisebois, Wolanin, and Juulsen are all 7-10 defencemen on contenders. Playing with Hughes doesn't make a defenceman a higher quality. Schenn was always a 6/7 defenceman playing up the lineup. We need one more true top 4 d man to be a playoff team and two more to be a legit contender. -

Comparing a bad contract to other bad contracts. There's a lot of other players in that price range who are actual positive value players. As reported by Dhaliwal and others, Boeser has value around 5 million. Not being able to trade him while his agent had freedom to figure out a trade with any team as well speaks volumes to how tough of a contract that is to move without retention or taking back money. -
[PGT] Toronto Maple Leafs at Vancouver Canucks | Mar. 04, 2023

Dermott is a really good 3LD, but with his injury history, having Brisebois next in line to cover his missed games seems like a great plan to have moving forward. -

I haven't seen the analytics on them but could Brisebois be a decent 6/7 in the NHL? Seems like a very Tanev type player (stylistically, not ability). Wolanin seems to grown a lot as a player too and could be a decent 6/7 as well. -
Two things can be true at once. This can be a good trade but also one that maybe isn't right for us. I'm torn. Picks are great for us right now and this is a great draft coming up, but Hronek is also only 25 years old and already playing at a top pair level. We would hope to get a player like him with one of our picks. This management team really has to do well on their trades and free agent signings over the next year. We all have PTSD from the Benning era and the failure of signings and trades that kept holding us back, let's hope for better with this group.

[Rumour] Time's up! Finish your last sentence...

Yep, not saying I would do it, but there's ways around it for sure. We would just have to make sure our drafting is really good to offset any cost with an ELC. -

There is a world where buying out OEL also makes sense however. If we load up on picks this season and sign a few college and European free agents, our cupboards a stocked well again. The cap space from an OEL buyout and Myers trade on July 1st would open up 13 million to work with our right defence. Our forward group is already one of the best in the league and we have a top 10 goalie. Fixing our defence makes us a legit playoff team and starts building the morale of our core EP, QH and TD. We would have enough ELCs in the system that could off set the dead cap and with the cap rising about 10 mill during that time as well. Not saying I would do it, but it isn't black and white. With more smart moves the next few years, this team can definitely take on an OEL buyout while building the team towards a contender. -
https://canucksarmy.com/news/elias-pettersson-mobile-defensive-defenceman-canucks-prospect-pool-craves-canucksarmy-prospect-rankings-1 Chris Faber scouts our prospects religiously and this is his list. I trust his take a lot. Raty would likely fit in anywhere above Silovs. Our two first round picks should impact this list quite a bit. Here's hoping our next best prospect is a future local superstar.

I have to give credit to the team as a whole. Seems like our whole organization is stabilizing and every move is a big picture move. Getting defensemen is a priority, but it is not a rush, it will happen as the pieces slowly keep falling together and our assets accumulate and we get more quality younger pieces. We have patience to get the best trade possible, and that is something we lacked previously (among other things).
