  1. Hey fellow CDCers! I wanted to get a general consensus of CDC on who they would rather keep in this situation. If the Canucks were to trade one, who would you keep as our 2C moving forward? (EP being our 1C of course) *This discussion is strictly in this circumstance, there are other options to move such as Boeser, but just to see this specific case* Horvat: 26, captain, great leader, above average offence, below average defence, elite face offs, plays power play. Legit 2C. Less trade value than Miller. Miller: 28, heart and soul, shows frustration at times, elite offence since joining Canucks, great defensively (although lazy at times when frustrated), great at face offs, plays power play and penalty kill. Legit 1C/1LW. More trade value than Horvat. Keeping in mind that Miller will cost slightly more contractually and bring in better trade value, however, keeping him likely makes us stronger for when we are a contender, who would you keep and why?
  2. Wouldn't surprise me if he's the one to get traded. Had a good comeback season last year but is back to his inconsistent play. If he's not scoring, he's not doing anything else. Looks too slow out there at times as well.
  3. Yeah but Benning did it when we should have been rebuilding our core. We were in a different "cycle" then. Our core is there now and needs a solid supporting cast, which makes this a viable tactic. Not every candidate has to end up being a superstar, as long as the asset provides more value than its acquisition cost, that can be seen as a win. Florida brought in many undervalued pieces which bounced back well and are solid support players to Florida's core. Juolevi and Forsling at the moment are part of that supporting cast.
  4. Hence the point of buying low on players you believe in. If they were guarantees then they wouldn't be undervalued.
  5. It can be considered a buy low option in the circumstance of Chytil turning his game around and exceeding the combined value of the two prospects past what Miller is currently worth. I would assume Schneider is worth quite a bit right now.
  6. Lawson Crouse, Markus Nutivaara, Pavel Zacha, Jake Debrusk, Anthony Beauvillier, Cody Glass, Casey Mittelstadt, Timothy Liljegren, Maxime Comtois, Max Domi (retained), Johnathan Drouin, Christian Dvorak, Phil Kessel, Nick Schmaltz are some players/prospects I would look at. Added older buy low options as well to add some short term options that may thrive in a better environment as JR has mentioned that we can look at bringing in pieces that help out short term and flip those pieces later for other assets.
  7. Laine would be the type of upgrade I would be looking for if we weren't parting with Boeser for a dman. Depends on the + needed to make it happen however.
  8. Have been thinking about Strome as a candidate as well, wonder what the cost of acquisition would be in his case?
  9. Yea sorry just felt like if Reinhart wasn't in Buffalo he would've been worth more at the time of signing. Got a first liner for 6.5 which is good value.
  10. No.. looking at a successful technique another team utilized and creating conversation about what are possible methods we can take to replicate that process. Sorry thread police.
  11. Looking at Florida, a huge key success for them has been their ability to buy low on players whether through trades, free agency, waivers or low draft picks that have been able to develop and flourish in their environment. Verhaege, Reinhart, Bennett, Duclair, Weegar, Forsling and the latest being Juolevi as some examples. So my question being, who are some candidates that you all see as being potential buy low candidates that can flourish with the Canucks moving forward? Also, is there any players within the system that we should be giving more of an opportunity than they have been given so far? ..it really hurts seeing the best team in the league deploying 2 Canucks drafted defencemen in their top 7 when we're stuck with what we have.
  12. Hiring an experienced GM doesn't guarantee that we automatically will have someone who will lead us to the cup. There's gonna be good and bad apples from the inexperienced and experienced pool. I'm totally for JR grooming an inexperienced candidate and moulding them into a great GM. Also, Holland.. really? Lmao
  13. As Rutherford calls it, you'd have to look at the cycle the team is in. They are beginning their rebuild but some short term moves have really paid off and they are pushing above their weight. They aren't a true contender and it doesn't make sense to mortgage the future just for one run. It would be very shortsighted and go along the lines of what JB and co were trying to do. The Canucks in 2011 were a cup contender and best team in the NHL. All in to win so any move that improved the team in the now made sense. Totally different cycle.
  14. Can't see the Wild doing it tbh. Solid return for us however if it were to happen.
  15. Seems like a decent candidate. Let's see how it plays out. Would love for Luongo to come on as an AGM. Connection to the organization and he's been gaining experience through the Panthers organization and Team Canada.
  16. As I see it, we can go down two avenues: sell off everyone who's over 25 or make a few trades that help us get younger while staying competitive. Now I know we've heard Benning say that statement constantly, but, we have a good core in place and we need a management team who can effectively surround the core with good players that fit the team's needs. If we were to take the latter option, here are some potential moves we can make imo: Trade 1: To Van: Nils Lundkvist To NYR: Bo Horvat Why: NYR was looking for another C in Eichel. Bo can give them some extra depth for a run. They are heavy on RHD so giving up Lundkvist should be feasible. Trade 2: To Van: Ryan Hartman, Jordan Greenway To Min: Brock Boeser Why: Although Hartman is fitting in well in Minnesota, they have had interest in Boeser in the past and Guerin may make moves that are more long-term planned. We add a 3C that can kill penalties and a young power forward. Trade 3: To Van: Phil Kessel (50% retained) To Ari: 3rd round pick 2022 Why: We bring in a winger that can score and has a winning pedigree. Arizona recoups a draft pick. Trade 4: To Van: Nutivaara To Flo: Dickinson Why: We fill out our LD depth. Florida seems to have good depth on the left side (please correct me if I am wrong) and adds more forward depth for a cup run. Similar cap hit. Internal Moves: Waive Alex Chiasson Waive Brad Hunt Waive Juho Lammiko Call up Will Lockwood Deadline Trades: Pearson for a pick Poolman for a pick Potential lineup for this season: Garland - Pettersson - Podkolzin Kessel - Miller - Hoglander Greenway - Hartman - Motte Highmore - Sutter - Lockwood Dowling OEL Myers Hughes Hamonic Nutivaara - Lundkvist Schenn Demko Halak What else needs to happen: The goal would be to keep drafting well and adding young prospects along the way. To do this, we will need to ensure the next management team hires are good ones. With a breath of fresh air from a new coaching staff, I believe the current players we have will be able to bounce back and play better. Thoughts?
  17. What annoyed me was when Garland got dropped to the ice when he was battling in front of the net and no one came in to help him or just jump into the scrum to show some emotion. Pearson was already there but the defensemen never joined and Bo skated by. I'm just tired.
  18. If you have a PC or gaming console, you can play video games and chat with friends/strangers through your headset. Twitch could be an option to watch live streams from creators that you like and join in conversation within the chat box. Dating apps to speak and potentially meet with people you may be interested in.
  19. Definitely, lack of pushback has been frustrating to watch. Like Hansen said on the radio today, it's a privilege to play in this league and you shouldn't need the coaches to get you up for games.
