  1. https://www.twitlonger.com/show/n_1ss8eue Management waited the price out from a mid 1st, to Hoglander, to Lockwood and a 7th. Great move by our management team.
  2. If he develops well, Canucks have the opportunity to have both of their top 2 centers be really good two-way players.
  3. Don't think the ask is three roster players specifically, as one piece is mentioned to be a top prospect, which is a quality piece. Could definitely be a young player already in the NHL, but I believe it could be an actual prospect as well since Wright is a rumored ask. Time will tell.
  4. Three player ask for Horvat, one being a top prospect.
  5. EP and Demko were the only core that were great picks by the previous regime. Hughes fell into our laps. Other than that, we literally don't have another drafted impact player on the team after 8 years. Horvat was Gillis. That's pathetic. Not a single defenceman after Hughes in 8 drafts. McCann, Forsling and Guenther on other NHL teams, lost for worse players. On top of that, capped strapped by players that became negative value right after signing/acquiring their contracts. No prospect pool. Diminishing asset quantity and value. This management team has to untangle all the previous mistake before they can make their mark. Not saying they're not up for criticism, but it's not fair to criticize them for trying to fix the previous regime's mistakes.
  6. We also have to be careful of putting the baggage of the past regime onto the new regime unfairly. The past regime had poor decision making skills by upper management and poor pro scouts. We sucked at developing players and acquiring effective players. Let's see how well we can identify young talent and acquire them. JR said young players and draft picks, not that we're avoiding acquiring draft picks. Let's wait and see the moves that are made and then judge before writing them off because of Benning and Weisbrod.
  7. Retaining salary at the TDL cap hit would be even more attractive. There are a lot of intangibles that go into it. Management can be fully criticized if they do nothing major by the deadline, but till then, I'll be patient and see what happens. I doubt the Canucks will deal Kuzmenko. Management has had a relationship for almost a decade scouting him and he loves Vancouver. Great chemistry with Petey as well, defs something we should keep moving forward.
  8. I think something that is missed among fans is accrued cap space, the closer we get to the deadline, the less actual cap hit for the season teams have to take on for this year, which will make it easier to trade our players in a cap crunched league.
  9. Haha I understand, it was tough for me to see Luongo go. I like Bo but I would be hesitant to sign him, even with his inflated shooting %, his metrics are borderline 1C this season. Once regression hits, he's gonna be back at the usual level of a really good, shoot first 2C. If he does sign for 8+ for 8 years, that has a chance to be a bad contract as soon as next season. I think the Kadri contract is a fair contract for him with his improvement this season, 7 aav. Personally I would still keep Miller if I had to choose between the two. Although the Milller contract has been said by some to not be moveable, I think that is more due to a similar Pacioretty type situation where teams just don't have the cap room with the attached extension. He's underperformed at even strength, so I'm sure he's due to regress positively down the stretch here. I haven't been able to access a comparable on all sites, but Miller has better defensive metrics this season than Bo according to the Athletic 30 game player cards. He's made many questionable turnovers this season, but on the whole, he's been better. Miller has been great in his 3.5 years as a Canuck, hopefully not everyone forgets that after a slow start to this season. But the right move is to move on from both for sure.
  10. Wouldn't make sense to have dead cap in years we want to compete and create cap in years we are not competing. Take the hit now so we can be in a stronger position later.
  11. Ah, I missed that. I think he's looked good so far. His transition game is very good.
  12. Our weak blue line has definitely been the topic of conversation since the 2011 team dismantled. Our blue line has negative value. Only way to move on from negative value is to add future assets. Canucks don't have assets due to previous regime. Canucks cannot give up assets due to not being good. Only way to be good is to accumulate assets and acquire cap space. To do that, we must let time age out contracts and trade older contracts with value for younger assets. Also, it doesn't help that there is not a lot of cap space around the league. The closer that we get to the deadline, the more cap space is available.
  13. Only way we get one of those is by trading Petey/Hughes/Demko or drafting well. The moves above help us tank for a better pick and acquire more picks for the draft.
  14. For expiring deals it helps to increase the value slightly and make playoff contenders cap compliant before the TDL. There's no issue to our organization to retain for this year.
  15. We can't lose Horvat for nothing, so we have to get what we can, which will likely be a 1st and good prospect.
  16. Helge Grans is a RD who is 20, should be able to make the jump soon. LA's depth on RD is insane and they have Clarke coming, so Grans will likely be a trade chip. It's just not possible for us to get any blue chip top pair RD without giving up a Petey/Hughes/Demko.
  17. Trade 1 To COL: Horvat (50% retained) To VAN: 1st 2023, Alex Newhook Trade 2 To NYR: JT Miller (current contract retained 50%), Nils Hoglander, Jack Rathbone To VAN: Alexis Lafreniere and Filip Chytil Trade 3 To MTL: Brock Boeser To VAN: Sean Monahan Trade 4 To TOR: Luke Schenn To VAN: 2nd 2023 Trade 5 To LA: Joni Jurmo and 2nd 2023 (from Schenn trade) To VAN: Helge Grans Tried to look at trades that fill both teams needs. Horvat is the perfect fit in Colorado. They need a 2C and it gives him a chance to win while we get a solid return back. NYR really like JT Miller. He's having a bit of a tough year this year but still has 30 points in 36 games and has performed at a top line level the last three years. MTL likes Boeser from reports it seems, would be a nice swap to take on Monahan who is having a good bounce back year. Schenn goes to a familiar organization for the playoff run, comes back in the offseason. With the LA trade, we get a RD that seems like he should be able to make the jump to the NHL within the next year or two I would assume. We use the extra cap space to acquire another top 4 RD in the offseason via trade/free agency. The lineup isn't great, and it's not supposed to be, but it gets us in the direction of building towards something better. Hopefully we are able to draft either a top C or RD in the next entry draft. Lineup after the trade deadline: Mikheyev - Pettersson - Kuzmenko Lafreniere - Chytil - Garland Newhook - Monahan - Podkolzin Joshua - Aman - Lazar Hughes - Bear Dermott - Burroughs OEL - Myers Demko Martin
  18. I think a lot of people will be disappointed when they realize Horvat and Miller won't land us a piece like Dobson/Nemec/Lafreniere/Byram. We could get a 1st and good prospect, but those top tier prospects are only obtainable when elite players go the other way.
  19. The way I see it, the main issue at the moment is the personnel. But, saying that, although the coaching staff isn't the main issue, they are also not the solution, that includes Bruce. Just wait until the off season, hire the coach that you want who has the structural and leadership qualities required and let him hire his assistants moving forward.
  20. This might be the lowest point in the history of the organization. Just sad.
