I highly doubt that they wait that long with Juolevi when the plan was to get him to the NHL last Christmas. The succession plan is hard to understand right now with a crowded roster but I'm sure they want to get some of these kids in sooner than later.

To be fair, skillset and age needs to be factored in that. The only player I would maybe take Boeser over is Tarasenko. The rest of that list are easily better players.

Would you like to see Kesler in the Ring of Honour?
MrCanuck94 replied to iBlueGreen's topic in Canucks Talk
Kesler wanted to win and it was obvious to him that our roster wasn't going to be able to. As he mentioned on the radio, as you grow older, you realize that you're mortal and that opportunity to win may not come again. I respect him for how bad he wants to win. Maybe if he was younger he would have been okay with sinking with the ship until the team was okay to compete again. We are now becoming a playoff team and clearly he was right not to do that with where he is right now in his career. As far as I remember, he kept his ask for a trade internal but it was leaked by media. He was professional and he did what he thought was right. Has always shown love for the city and its fans. True warrior. Voted yes easily. -
To be honest, and this is totally off the top of my head, I feel college kids have had a quicker impact on their NHL teams in general, Gaudette seems like more of an anomaly. However, get him here and see where he's at, if he's not ready, no harm in sending him down.

Our losing streaks always happen when he's injured

I disagree, I like Myers' offensive ability more and the second powerplay has been very good. No need to change it. As you mentioned this way we also reduce Edler's TOI. He's getting up there in age and it would be smart to maintain less ice time so he doesn't get as fatigued!

If there was something I could ask Brock to work on it would be his one-timer. I've seen often that he would have a clear one-timer at the net but he stops the puck and looks for a wrist shot or hesitates, both causing the clear lane to the net to disappear. If he started clapping one-tees more often I assume it would help alleviate pressure off Petey as many teams overload on his side during powerplays right now and provide our PP more lethal options.

Murph's relaying what Sestito said. He mentions all of this further down of how it conflicts with the evidence and other stories, and how it would be nice to get the story from Lain. "(Murphy: Since I had never heard about Lain being the reason for the line brawl, I did a little digging. Lain was no wilting flower. He had 129 PIMs in 63 AHL games that season. The Utica Comets did play the Abbotsford Heat four times early in the 2013-2014 season, prior to Lain’s call up with Vancouver. October 30, 2013 in Utica: Lain got 2-5-10 for instigating a fight with Blair Jones, who just so happens to be one of the guys who was involved in the line brawl at Rogers Arena. Two nights later Lain was assessed a roughing penalty against the Heat. And then on November 30 in Abbotsford, Lain is listed as taking a slashing penalty. Obviously whatever he did may not have drawn a penalty, but those are the calls against him in the season series with the Heat. I asked Kevin Bieksa if he had heard the Lain angle and Bieksa said no. He just remembers Tortorella coming into the room saying the Flames were starting their fourth line so the Canucks couldn’t match with the Sedin line. I reached out to Shane O’Brien, who was a member of the Flames that night and he doesn’t remember Hartley mentioning Lain. But he added that no one hardly ever talked to him in Calgary that whole year. Sestito is adamant, though, saying he is nearly 100 per cent certain about his recollection about the Lain tidbit. If so, then it stands to reason Hartley started his fourth line in the hopes that the Canucks would do the same. Coaches are almost always aware of the opposition’s lines. So odds are Hartley knew Lain was centreing Vancouver’s fourth line that night. I’ve never been able to get in touch with Lain. It would be nice to see if he could shine some light on the subject. That’s as far as my investigative journalism goes.)" Murph is the goat.

Agreed. His play is drastically better the latter half of this season so far, making a huge impact.
-
Soooo if everyone can move on from what ifs and pretending to know the future... Anyone know what happened to Olli? He's listed as injured for today's game.
-
I'm convinced this kid is going to make the team sooner than expected. Wouldn't even surprise me if he's on the team next season.
-
Hahah what? When did I say anything about trading him there. His shot's not as good as it was. His shooting percentage is way lower than it was during his rookie season.
-
He's not expendable unless they do hit. If they do hit in the future, then yes it does make sense to use an area of strength to improve an area of need!
-
Not really, he's had his fair share of grade A chances. His accuracy isn't as great as it was his rookie season, thus as mentioned, his shooting percentage is lower.
-
Boeser had a good game last night, he's kept improving over the last while and noticeably made a lot of good plays!

I feel you. I don't mean to come across as complaining if others are, I was giving my honest opinion of his play like I do all players, I've said that I expect him to turn into the top line player that he has the potential to be (and is scoring at). I didn't feel it was fair that some were saying that he deserves no criticism for the season so far because statistically he's been doing well when his overall play in my opinion has taken a step back. Your points are definitely valid for sure, just as Marky's play took a hit when he was going through his personal troubles. Brock has been better lately and I fully expect he'll be better overall for sure! Let's agree to disagree. In my opinion it is fair to say his board play and playmaking has taken a step back. Of course that is just an my eye test and an opinion. I agree with your last sentence, my stance was more of that, in my opinion, he has taken a step back as he was better in my eyes the previous two seasons. I will own up to my point being wrong in my last post, points definitely matter. The point I meant to get across is the post above from dpn1, looking at both is important. I totally see your point on the stats side now. I could be harder on him because I really want him to succeed, so maybe it came across more knitpicky than intended. As mentioned by others, there are external factors that could've hindered him early on. He's been getting better in the areas where I felt he was weaker in the last while. Here's to the best version of Brock to come and to solidify our amazing core!
-
Then you should be able to acknowledge his criticisms instead of calling people clueless, while using scoring stats to prove a point and not actual analysis to see a player's overall play. Points are there but his overall play isn't.
-
Really? Cuz you looked at a stat sheet rather than seeing him playing every game, other people are clueless? It's very obvious his play has taken a step back regardless of the points being there. That is such shortsighted post lol However, he has looked better in the last few games. More engaged, winning more board battles, completing more passes and skating well. With Petey starting to drive play more and take over games and hopefully Bo and Brock being able to turn a corner as well, it increases our chance to do well in the second half of the season and make a playoff push. Everyone here wants him to succeed but it's nice to have the ability to take the rose coloured glasses off and unbiasedly analyze a player.
-
I feel like I'm seeing a lot of Juolevi vs Rafferty in the threads lately, as if both are not our prospects lol Juolevi is doing fine. It's not just the stats, it's the skillsets. There is a reason Juolevi is being leaned on defensively by the team. If he was on PP1 (which I believe he was before the injury), his points would be there as well. Since Rafferty is doing well there, it makes sense to just let him be and have him develop and excel there. I am hesitant on becoming too high on Rafferty. There are many older D that do well in the AHL but don't translate. However, I do believe he is a late bloomer and will become a solid NHLer. Whatever he becomes, whether it is a first, second or third pairing d man is a win for our team regardless.

Canucks Christmas Report Card (Discussion)
MrCanuck94 replied to J.I.A.H.N's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
Didn't agree with all because I feel the grades have to be relevant to the players expectations (e.g. Fantenberg for me is an A) Pettersson....................B+............. Points are there but complete play wise he was having a harder time the first part of the season. Has been coming on and helping Miller drive the lotto line lately. Scary to think how good he can be. Miller.............................A+.............. Blew past my expectations so far. Great leader, drives play, just an overall awesome addition. Horvat...........................C+ ............... Yes Bo's our heart and soul but his game hasn't been close to what is expected of him. Not concerned, he'll turn it around. Boeser..........................C+............. Cruise control for most of the season with some good moments in the latter half. Hoping he turns it around and starts driving play like elite players are expected to. Pearson........................B............. Inconsistent for sure but as mentioned, works hard, good two way guy and is a good piece on a line with Horvat. Sutter............................C+............... Needs to stay healthy. I've liked how Sutter has looked so far in the games he has played. Virtanen........................B+............... Seems like he has finally taken the next step. Hoping he keeps it up and this is the start of what is to come. Could keep growing into his ceiling. Gaudette.......................B+............... The offensive was a nice surprise, I didn't think it would translate as well as it has. The D game needs to get there. Roussel.........................B-.............. I have all of the time in the world for players who wear their heart on their sleeve. Leivo.............................B............... I have moments where I like him and moments where I don't. If he can keep growing and be more consistent, could be a solid middle six option moving forward. Motte.............................A............... He is the core of the fourth line. Night and day difference when the fourth line doesn't have him there. Beagle...........................C+............. D game is there but the line has had some rough games. Need more offence from him. Schaller.........................C+............. Hot start but now lacks the offence just like Beagle. Solid defensively. Eriksson........................C...............Honestly I haven't hated him. Good guy and has had some good games, but in a bottom 6 roll needs to use his body more and in a top 6 roll needs to score. Is doing neither. Ferland..........................N/A............ Not judging Ferland until he has a solid stretch. Once the sickness was going away you could see the impact his play was making. Love the hits. Edler..............................B+............. As OP said, you miss them when they're gone. Hughes..........................A+............. Nothing needs to be said. Tanev.............................B............... Please stay healthy. Big difference maker. Benn..............................B-............... A little rough patch, however, has played well overall. Needs a little more offence. Myers.............................B+............ Big impact on the blue line. I truly believe that having Myers has helped to keep Tanev in the line up because of the workload spread. Needs to get going offensively but has been good defensively on the whole. Puck movement is great. Fantenberg....................A............. Playing like a top 6 d when he was signed as a 7th. Has been great defensively while providing a physical presence. Stetcher.........................C+............. Can't complain about Troy. Hard worker but I can see him being expendable soon enough to bring up Rafferty. Markstrom......................A-............. Only a couple of poor games, however, circumstances may have played into it. Has played great. Demko...........................B+............. Only a couple of poor games as well, developing nicely. -
Honestly your post doesn't deserve a response but to answer the factless post: 2014: Virtanen, McCann, Demko, Tryamkin and Forsling. 2015: Boeser and Gaudette (with potential of Brisebois and Jasek who are still developing) That's already 7 NHL caliber players from the first two drafts, with the potential for more. Good drafting teams draft at least two NHL caliber players a draft. 2015 on, many of our prospects are still developing. Believe it or not, it takes time. So you're basing a whole draft class based on one player? Even if you think Makar is better, you realize it's talking about the draft as a whole and there are prospect websites that agree that we won that draft because of the rest of the players we drafted.
