I don't have an athletic subscription but here are some quotes from Harman Dayal's tweets of his article on Podkolzin: “He doesn’t want to sign any extension (in Russia), he wants to play for the #Canucks. He’s excited to play with Elias Pettersson" "He was furious about it. He’s coming to a KHL game and he’s sitting" Vasili Podkolzin rejected a lucrative five year extension to stay in Russia 30 minutes before getting drafted by the #Canucks. That story plus an inside look at his development and contract situation in Russia Nice to see he really wants to come over. Edit: Just saw @aGENT posted the article above

Opinion? More like hindsight to look smart. Juolevi was known as the safe pick and the d-man that will play 15 years in the NHL, but I bet you can't remember that. Injuries have derailed that, however, that is unpredictable. I wanted Ehlers and Nylander in 2014, we picked Jake, I'm not crying about it. Every team has hits and misses, JB and crew have drafted well enough for me to not worry. Every individual with some common sense knows it is impossible to hit on every pick. Let Olli develop into the top 4 d-man that he has the potential to be.

that's why -
This is fair, however, I feel like maybe you're slightly harder on Juolevi's skating than reality. I haven't watched much but from what I have read and heard, is he not skating better since the surgery? Was it not the bad knee that was hampering his abilities which was causing him to be beat outside often? He was known as a strong skater since he was drafted.
-
The post you quoted literally says he has been good offensively, make up your mind.
-
It's totally fair to criticize a player if you watch them and analyze their abilities. To say that he didn't have a strong week because of his plus/minus is just lazy. Quinn Hughes has the worst plus/minus out of all Canucks d-men, he is our best d-man.
-
No, because he does talk about what players need to work on to get to the next level and what players are doing well and progressing on? No, he isn't like the sad side of CDC and online hockey forums in general that don't understand it is impossible to hit on every pick and to just hope the player that was picked can become the best they can be.

The half a second difference in speed between the leagues makes the world of difference in a players ability to produce between the best and second best league in the world. There are many players that are elite in the AHL but cannot translate that skill to the NHL.

For sure, the pieces are there now, it's time that is our barrier. Once the core matures, we'll be a good team for a long time!

I agree 100% that he'll improve into the top line player we know he can be. However, i don't think that means we cannot analyze his current play and noticing which areas need improve for him to get there. First of all that isn't true at all, as far as I remember that has never happened this season, Boeser has been on Petey's line 95% of the time, except for a small period on Bo's wing. Him and Virtanen were swapped and he was there most of the third, as well as switched onto Horvat's pair in OT. Petey came out after Bo switched. Boeser did a great job protecting the puck and getting it into the middle for Petey near the end of his shift. Yes, that goal was a beauty! The third period switch definitely must have lit a fire into him because he was playing better than I've seen him play in a long time. I'm hoping this is the turning point of BB taking the next step.

Miller has consistently been the main play driver on that line all season, no need to put him down to push an agenda. Many of the points are valid in this thread, BB has cruised often during most games this season. There is a big difference in driving a play and just complementing it. He is trying but his play overall has taken a step back from past seasons. However, once Green demoted Brock to the third line tonight, I saw the old version of him come back to life. He was moving fast, fully engaged and winning puck battles, resulting in the play leading to the OT goal. Maybe he is stuck too often looking for Petey and Miller when playing with them instead of just playing his game. Everyone has the same hope, for Boeser to become a solid top line player, and I'm sure he'll get there. As AJ said, that doesn't mean criticism of him is unfair.

Bingo. I took some heat for my post in the last PGT, but he ended up being demoted to the third line late in this game. Wonder if that lit a little fire in him. -
Hi praise from Ryan Johnson about Juolevi today on 650. A summary: - He's been outstanding with handling the situation. - It was hard to lose him after he was having a great year last year. - Off to a great start again. - Playing a ton of minutes. - People here on the west would be pleasantly surprised in the evolution of his game and what he has added to his repertoire. - First guy over the boards on PK, leads team in blocked shots on PK, horse in different areas, part of the PP, does a lot of great things. - The way he moves the puck, his hockey sense is ELITE. - Wasn't sure what was going to happen with hip issue, thankfully it was nothing major. - Olli really enjoys playing the game right now and is thriving and fits into the positive culture of kids that are in Utica. - This is the beset RJ has seen Olli mentally and physically.

Fair points, agree to disagree on some points, but I'm sure we can agree that we hope for the best with him and he turns into a great player! -

Relax and read. It's not a knee jerk reaction, I'm giving an honest analysis of his season as a whole up to this point. I'm sure he'll turn it around but at the moment, he's definitely taken a step back from what his play used to be. I can agree that its fair to say his effort has been there, however, he's been weak on the boards, playmaking has been average, not pushing momentum like a top player, and his complete game still needs work. I will acknowledge that he is trying a lot defensively, even though it is not quite there yet. He is also now paid to score, so that is the expectation, he has 4 goals in his last 19 games, which is inexcusable. As I said before, not trying to hate on Boeser, of course I want him to succeed. It'll come eventually, but it's been 30 games already this season. -

I disagree, it is fair to say his effort is there but his play has definitely taken a step back. His board play is weak. Passing on full display? He constantly has bad turnovers every game it seems other than making normal passes that any other top 6 NHLer would make. He isn't pushing momentum and is constantly relying on Pettersson and Miller. Maybe he's looking for them too often instead of just playing his game. I'm not trying to hate on Boeser, just taking off the rose coloured glasses and being honest with his play. -

This might be a hot take but when are we going to acknowledge that Boeser has been cruising all year while getting easy points off of his teammates? Is it time to demote him down the lineup to send a message or does he not get that treatment? -
I'm a huge OJ fan and was very happy to hear the news that he'll be okay. Hope he can play a solid stretch of games and get a call up not too long from now!
-
Paraphrasing but Jimbo on 650 rn said that Olli will be evaluated again tomorrow and is hopeful he will be back playing sooner than later
-
Can't remember where I saw the comment, but Pettersson was a bigger reach than Juolevi. Sometimes it works out, sometimes it doesn't. The hindsight folks need to relax and just admit our drafting is very good regardless of the stats that are nitpicked to prove otherwise. Hoping for a fast recovery for Juolevi and to get onto this team as soon as possible, he has a great skillset!

I posted the quote in the other thread as a response to you. I see your logic but your post stating it is a rumour is false. There is no source saying the player is actually interested in said team and it creates a false narrative.

Could Demko replace Markstrom as #1 before season's end?
MrCanuck94 replied to Mortalis's topic in Canucks Talk
Not that Marky is playing bad, but I would love for them to give Demko a little run here. -
