  1. Being a homer is fine because it is opinion based, but don't post false facts. SHL is a top 4 league in the world.
  2. Love that we got Hughes to take the pressure off of Juolevi, we got our offensive stud in Hughes and our 2-way stud in Juolevi!
  3. Benning is super excited in the post-pick interview, and so am I, awesome pick! LETS GO
  4. Can we all just agree that Jake took a very big step this season. He's improved a lot at his play and consistency. With more opportunity in future seasons we should see his production go up as well. I'll be happy with a consistent 20/20 point production from him while being a force physically.
  5. Love that list, never understood the criticism with Juolevi tbh.. Kills it in his draft year both in the OHL and World Juniors. D+1 loses three of his teams 100 point producers, is put in a more defensive role and still manages to put up the same number of points (which is an improvement). D+2 goes to Finland because he had a bad camp (it happens, he wasn't ready) and puts up historic numbers which are overshadowed because of Heiskanen also doing the same. Was scratched because his coach wanted him to rest up and be 100% again after world juniors. What's there to complain about? He'll be in the NHL soon and is going to be a solid d-man for us for the next decade and then some.
  6. A good team doesn't always define a player's role, every team has different strengths and weaknesses. Horvat isn't a 3rd line center on a good team, Horvat is the third center down the middle on a team that has two better centers ahead of him. If a team had Vasilevsky, Rinne and Fleury.. It doesn't mean that Vasi is a #1 goalie making Rinne a backup and Fleury an AHL starter, they have three #1 goalies. To use your Pittsburgh example, in the circumstance that they had Bo, they would have 1 generational center, 1 elite center and 1 top 6 center (who has the potential to be an elite 2-way center). Also, I'm not understanding your argument on Backstrom and Getzlaf? If you're trying to say they aren't #1 C's, well, they are. Stanley Cup is a team prize, not just on one player. Statistically (from last year), the top 30 centers had at least 55 points, and the top 60 centers had at least 45 points, so I'm comfortable saying that Horvat at the moment is a borderline #1 C who's only getting better. No one's overrating anyone. He's a solid top 6 2-way center who's the heart and soul of our team, he will be the captain moving forward and an elite 2-way C in his prime.
  7. Bingo. His hockey IQ, offensive instincts and passing are on another level, as long as he's playing with other elite players that can read his plays, he'll put up the points. I'd definitely be comfortable with him manning the point between Boeser and Pettersson on PP1 moving forward.
  8. Because the logical thing wouldn't be to just not sign players you don't want... right?
  9. Man, I was already so impressed with the zone entry, how he dropped the puck behind himself and pivoted away from the opponent player to gain control in the zone. And then the shot happened... He thinks the game at such an elite level it's crazy.
  10. Lol. Joulevi hasn't regressed, he's in fact improved greatly this year defensively under Salo and is earning more minutes (young guys don't automatically get high minutes in adult leagues like junior) and has put up 14 points in 20 games which is good for fourth all-time for U20 d-man ppg scoring in the Liiga. Also, him being barely noticeable is a good thing, that's his style Patience is a virtue with these kids.
  11. You guys check out HFBoards? They were constantly dogging him and labeling him a bust during the game hahah. Juolevi played great today and he's huge now!
  12. Naw man, that goal was all on Nylander. He's looked terrible this period, plays died on his stick numerous times. Dahlin and Pettersson look amazing so far. Imagine have Dahlin at the point and Boeser and Pettersson on their off-sides
  13. Fun Fact, Jesper Bratt and Jonathan Dahlen were drafted in the same draft from the same league D+1 year: JB: 46 GP 22 PTS JD: 45 GP 44 PTS Bratt has 23 PTS in 33 GP with the devils so far this season, so the jump is definitely possible from the Allsvenskan to the NHL.
  14. I don't get it when people say these things.. 1. Rodin didn't outplay anyone to make the NHL roster, he was also a healthy scratch many times in Utica. 2. Tryamkin chose to leave, Benning even said he made a very good offer, but Tryamkin chose to leave for personal reasons. It's a relief his AGM in Russia has said he wants to come back. 3. Forsling was traded for Clendening because Gillis literally left us no depth, and we needed it with all the injuries. 4. McCann for Guddy can be argued for sure. I really liked McCann but we also had no D depth (same as 3.) and it's nice to get a D-man with Guddy's size. 5. All these signings were made so we do not rush our prospects. I don't mind any of them even though I am not a fan of some. I see people panicking over these kind of things on twitter and hfboards and I don't understand it at all. All our team has been doing is trending in the right direction and Benning has been making this team younger, without making panic moves, yet people complain that he's made and will make bad moves that don't make sense...
  15. It's not their AHL, the league doesn't differ in player quality, it differs in team quality. Obviously they differ, but the drop in quality is not the same as the drop from the NHL to the AHL. No one's having a hard time dealing with the fact that it's a tier 2 league, the response is a point to you saying it's the SHL's AHL, which the drop off is not as significant.
  16. Incorrect, Allsvenskan is not like Sweden's AHL. The 28 teams are divided into two tiers, with the top 14 in the SHL and the bottom 14 in the Allsvenskan. Every year a few of the top teams from the Allsvenskan have the opportunity to get promoted to the SHL while regulating a couple of the bottom teams from the SHL. Off a source I found on google: "The Kvalserien is a Swedish round-robin hockey tournament used for qualification to the Elitserien. The last two teams from that league face the four best from the Allsvenskan. Each team face each other twice; the teams finishing first and second earn the right to play in the Elitserien the next season, while the other four head to the Allsvenskan." Dahlen's team is currently tops in the Allsvenskan, so barring any major drop, they should be competing to get into the SHL. To get to my point, Dahlen could be NHL ready right now and he could also not be, but it won't be predicated by the league he plays in.
  17. I feel like many are really overthinking this. Kid was 21, got married, moved to a new country and didn't have the best experience he was probably hoping for here in NA. I don't blame him, he had the option to move back to his country, get paid, play an increased role, and be comfortable in his surroundings, who wouldn't say yes to that? As for the Pronger topic, it all depends on the approach. It's not bad to watch video and ask a player to improve a certain aspect, but to ask them to be someone they aren't is unacceptable. We don't know the conversations behind the scenes, so it's unfair to say. The thing I love most about Greener is he understands communication with every player is different. To play every player at their strengths, and that teaching varies depending on the person because everyone learns/develops differently. If Nikita comes back, he would round out our left side quite nicely, here's hoping he does.
  18. No one's putting pressure on the kid, he's just that good. If he comes in and struggles, no biggie, send him down until he's comfortable. Ten years ago, sure, now, I don't have an issue with his weight, it's a more skilled and speed based league now, if Keller and Hischier are doing well weighing in at 168 and 175 respectively, don't think his weight is gonna be an issue as long as he comes in around 175lbs next season. Also, we won't have Willie benching him after he scores his first goal or keeping him off the pp because 'he doesn't know the systems yet' .. I'M SO EXCITED FOR THIS KID
  19. He's really showing why he was a top 10 pick not too long ago, high IQ and just a really smart player all around, especially in the O-zone, what a trade by Benning. He already looks like a top 4 D-man to me, I wonder how much better he can become the more he plays and as his confidence increases.
  20. Yeah next season will be fun to see how many kids make the team. I feel Gaudette might turn pro and play a few games at the end of this season.
  21. Disagree completely, and this is without today's game, I see him on the opening roster next season easily. Kid is way too good.
  22. Looking really solid so far. He's got the hockey IQ and has really good puck moving skills and skating ability. Impressive so far!
  23. Canucks insta posted a pic of the new powerplay group, looks like Burmistrov is off and Boeser is on! Music to my ears, I wanted this switch.
  24. Juolevi aside, I'm surprised you Juolevi haters keep saying we missed out on Tkatchuk, rather than Keller. Keller > Tkatchuk lol
