I get what you're saying, but I don't think that's his view. He uses specific examples, Goldy scoring in his first game and getting bench, that isn't NHL hockey, that's just outright stupid, there is no logic. Goldy's effective when he scores, and if he's getting benched right when he does that, what's the point?

guess we weren't the only ones that questioned Willie's decisions

Gotta disagree with you here, it's not even about having a good camp, Boeser is READY for the NHL, let him play where he belongs.

I'm not gonna have rose-tinted glasses on and say that Juju has played well so far in pre-season, he has struggled, but a couple of bad games is different from a bad season, let's see how he bounces back in the next couple of games first before everyone labels a 19 year old a bust. All players have bad stretches and ups and downs. If he continues to struggle in the next couple games, send him to Finland to develop, no need to stress, he'll be fine. Personally, I'm not worried at all, I feel Juju's hockey iq is way too high for him to bust or not become at least a top 4 d-man.

? I'm pretty sure Pettersson is outshining all the players picked before and after him at the moment, and that's not just from a Vancouver media perspective.

"Dahlen says VAN fans need to be patient" Listen to the man.

Yeah my bad, I misread the years when checking the stats hahah, thanks for correcting me! But yes, I am hoping Pettersson turns out for us, he is an amazingly skilled player
-
Can't just judge solely off points though, some players can make an NHL impact right away like Nylander, and some take longer like the twins, even with all of those SHL points. Not saying production isn't important, it is, but as long as he's constantly improving and tracking towards a top 6/#1 centre, I'll be happy! Hopefully Pettersson can transition well and become an impact player for us for a long time!
-
Yeah, and you can say that about someone like Ehlers too. Why only use one bad example to prove a point? To that fact, McCann isn't even a bust, he's still developing.
-
Love it, elite skill, just wait till he fills out. Plus, AHL eligible this year I'm pretty sure!

I feel you, if I had that shot, definitely would be doing everything to make the NHL and stay there. Doesn't help that the people I know that have met him say he's so full of himself and acts like he's already a regular. Hope he gets it together, could be a great player for us!

Don't get me wrong, I haven't heard the brightest things from my friends/acquaintances who know/have met Jake either, but partying and working out don't really have a negative correlation to each other. You can work out a few hours a day and still party hard, nothing wrong with enjoying the summer.

2017 NHL Draft - Chicago, Illinois June 23-24 2017
MrCanuck94 replied to hyper00's topic in Prospects / Farm Team
Because it's not about the points, it's about having a skill set that can translate to the next level. I don't see anything elite about him, and we shouldn't be drafting just to draft a good player, we gotta take risks on high-ceiling players. Just my personal opinion. BUT, if Benning thinks he can translate into a Top 6 centre, then I'm all for it! -

Well, maybe it's just the videos that I've seen, I just didn't see anything spectacular, most of the assists I saw were basic passes or rebound opportunities. If we pick him, I hope so. Interesting comparison though, since most compare his style to Johansen or Scheifele. -

Same, Bi3ksallent and I asked (in this thread) what everyone sees in Glass but never got a response. Not trying to sound like a hater, but other than the points, I don't see what everyone see's in Glass. He seems like he's just good at everything but he's not elite at anything. I don't even get how he's considered a playmaker. I would easily choose Mittelstadt, Vilardi, Petterson or Necas ahead of him. Nonetheless, if we choose him, I hope he turns out to be a solid top 6 forward! -
2017 NHL Draft - Chicago, Illinois June 23-24 2017

I'm not meaning this in an antagonistic way, but can someone help me understand why we should pick glass? I'm not saying he won't be an NHL player but from whatever I've seen of him (and I've tried to watch a lot of his vids) I just don't see anything that spits potential elite centre. Please enlighten me otherwise with this pick I would definitely rather take Mittelstadt, Vilardi, Heiskanen, Petterson, Necas, or Makar before him easily. -
Lmao I like it, can someone make this happen, a place where some can "debate" their souls out so I can actually go to a prospect thread and get updates and discussions about the actual player hahaha
-
Lol we should have a thread for "the player we picked vs the next 5 players drafted after them"
-
Definately agree with both of you. "Lindenning have drafted more elite and NHL potential players in the three drafts than we have in the past two decades, so stop the hate." Just to be clear, I wasn't claiming we drafted more NHL players (impossible to make that statement for another decade), I was claiming that we have more quantity of players that look like they can make the NHL one day, but as Elvis said, hope more than a few can show something before we get too excited.
-
"elite and nhl potential", if you don't think Boeser, Juolevi and Demko have elite potential then you're out to lunch. and seriously, a smartass comment? every prospect has potential until they prove it in the NHL. Some make it, some need to develop, and others flounder, we just have been snake bitten with the latter.
-
hahahahahaha gotta love hindsight I wanted Ehlers at the draft, my plan B was Nylander. We drafted Virtanen, yeah I was disappointed, but I could see Jim's reasons and what he saw in his potential. Just because someone has a different opinion doesn't always mean they're incompetent (aka Patrick White). Lindenning have drafted more elite and NHL potential players in the three drafts than we have in the past two decades, so stop the hate. Let. The. Kids. Develop. Just because we missed out on Ehlers doesn't mean we have a lesser winger in Jake, we're building a team. Jake can still be an effective Hansen type player if anything and we're gonna have plenty of picks and money to find our scoring wingers in the future. Have. Patience. One love, Go Nucks!

*In a parallel universe* Canucks select Ehlers and Tkatchuk with their 6th and 5th picks, CDC complains about not picking Virtanen (a speedy Kreider-like powerforward) and Juolevi (the teams biggest need, defence, a Lidstrom esque poise PMD) You hindsight know-it-alls are embarrassing, if everyone knew how players turned out don't ya think every team would pick those players before lol? For every miss that's being complained about, we've also hit many diamonds (Demko, Boeser, Tryamkin..etc) Benning is doing a HELL OF A GOOD job with drafting. Jake is finally developing properly down in Utica and is starting to put up points lately, Jake's biggest thing is taking that next step mentally, becoming an everyday pro like Bo and Troy, once he does that, we'll have a really good power forward who can skate like the wind. For everyone complaining about Juolevi.. get a life, kid's doing great. He'll be an elite PMD D-man in the NHL I have no doubt. Have some god damn patience lol..
