  1. Bo has played with Garland the most who is our best winger with actual first line metrics while playing on PP1. Podkolzin is no slouch and super talented. Bo's metrics have stayed the same whether he's played with middle six players or top line talent. Let's stop blaming Bo's teammates for his production or happiness.
  2. The cost for young RHD is very high, you have to give up a Horvat or 1st in 2023 (deep draft). Our last regime didn't leave us with enough assets to be able to spend and get quality players or shed cap. I'm surprised they even paid a 2nd to get rid of Dickinson, but that was a 2024 2nd round pick, so I guess they'll try to recoup that asset plus add more assets over the next year.
  3. It's not that we won't have good games in the future or figure stuff out moving forward. It's consistently the poor effort, even during our winning streaks, that has been questionable. When's the last game this core has played a full 60 minutes in? Last season we were constantly playing catch up but somehow managed to win games after poor starts. PA and JR were right to not get too ahead of themselves. Like PA said, the last 57 games last season don't matter. We won't become a contender like this.
  4. The thing I miss about the 2011 core is not just their skill, but their consistency in effort. You knew that Kesler, Burrows and Bieksa were gonna wear their heart on their sleeve and push momentum for our team. This team needs a leadership change.
  5. Terrible game by Pearson, Horvat and Miller. We. Need. Defence. I’m so tired of the lack of "heart and soul" from Horvat on a consistent basis and I love Miller but his yo-yo effort games are frustrating. Pettersson, Hughes and Demko can’t carry this team on their own. Also, don’t blame the missed call. Good teams don’t break down after one bad goal.
  6. Petey has played mostly center in his NHL career. Miller took the faceoff when they played together but Petey was the one playing center. He was the one controlling the middle of the ice after the faceoff. Faceoffs are great but that doesn't automatically make you a great center, the rest of the shift matters more. Petey has been one of the best centers in the league when healthy since his rookie season.
  7. All trades aren't linear, that 8th overall could easily be an elite player. I would take a 3C, top 4 D and 1st round pick any day for Bo right now.
  8. They won when Staal was on his ELC, which is what makes drafting and developing well crucial to support the bottom half of the lineup at a cheap rate. They traded him before his big raise (from 4m to 6m) and got a solid amount of assets for him. Unfortunately, they missed on their 8th overall pick (Pouliot).
  9. Bringing this over from the Horvat thread, interesting to see that leading up to the season, the two sides have not talked in a while.
  10. Even with Miller as the priority, it was ongoing negotiations with both all Summer, they didn't start after the Miller deal. The Miller negotiations were also at a stalemate until the day he decided he doesn't want negotiations to run into the season and wants to stay in Vancouver. He took a discount to stay as well. Management prioritized him by going up on their offer and meeting in the middle. It is up to Horvat to decide if he wants to chase the money or remain a Canuck (no issues with chasing money, do what is best for him). Even 75-82 points is solid for Miller's price tag.
  11. Definitely feel Boeser's future will depend on Kuzmenko's play and Lekkirimaki's development this season.
  12. I wouldn't blame management, I would've done exactly what they did. Prioritize the better player over the emotional attachment. With 1C and 2C filled, management are in a stronger negotiation position. 6.5aav is my walk away number for Bo, so yes, I would trade him for a 1st and RHD prospect and use that cap in the offseason to better our team if he doesn't come down on his ask to satisfy management's offer.
  13. Really concerning if Irf's reporting is true. Your captain who's drafted and developed with this organization is choosing money over giving a hometown discount. By the prioritization quote, I'm assuming that means choosing to sign JT first over Bo. Seems like it's going to take a Couturier type contract from Bo's side (not even a close comparable imo) as Elliote mentions it's going to start with a 7. Canucks management seem to not feel worried as they have their 1C and 2C locked up, so Bo will have to take a discount to stay here as mentioned by Dreger. As we all know, anything can happen at anytime, just takes one phone call. Like when Miller decided one day he wants to take a discount and stay with the Canucks, he went down on his ask and management went up on their offer to keep him. Seems like Bo's camp will have to come down on their ask since management does not feel pressured to go up on their offer. Season's starting tomorrow, many players do not like talking contract during the season. Let's see what happens with Bo. PA already mentioned we won't be keeping players on expiring contracts past the deadline, including Bo.
  14. Klimovich will be sent down for Karlsson once the legalities are done. When Healthy: Pearson Miller Boeser Kuz Petey Mik Gar Bo Pod Josh Aman Lazar Hughes Schenn OEL Myers Stillman Dermott Demko Martin
  15. Really cool to see. Great job by the whole management team!
  16. Reilly would be a great claim if we had the cap (or if we can make it work somehow). Myers would be worth a shot as well. Both if we could make it work Hughes Schenn OEL T. Myers Reilly P. Myers
  17. Trading picks isn't a great thing when in our position, but the Canucks have had Dermott and Myers injured in the past week, that's two of the top 6. With our lack of quality depth and Rathbone not looking as good as hoped, it likely forced management's hand to force a trade for a NHL dman. Luckily we were able to shed one of the mistakes from the previous regime at the same time.
  18. There may be some decent quality players dropping onto the waivers soon from teams that are deep at certain positions. We should have more wiggle room to make some potential claims. Not happy about giving up the pick, but it is a 2024 2nd, not 2023. At least we should be contending by then.
  19. Interesting that they didn't just ride out the salary, wonder if there is a bigger move in the works?
  20. When was Horvat in Selke talks? His defensive play dropped off down the stretch when he started scoring a lot. Horvat has had poor defensive analytics most of his career, last year he was average, a great improvement but not Selke level. Couturier's defensive analytics have had him close to a Mark Stone level of defensive play, so he's been in good company. Couturier was playing hurt last season, so last season aside, his points per 60 the past 5 years have been much better and his even strength points per 60 were considerably better. Datsyuk, Kesler, Toews, Bergeron, Kopitar, O'Reilly and Barkov are all known for their elite defensive play, regardless of their team. Horvat is a really good player, but he is what he is, a 2C.
  21. It's really not that deep.. I usually use the past 3 years, a players tool box and their situation to surface level analyze a player quickly. Some hit their ceiling quick, some take longer, but analyzing their skillset helps to see if there is further growth potential. Couturier is an elite 2 way C. Took longer to hit his ceiling, but once he hit it, he had first line production the past five years and was one of the best defensive centers in the league. Barzal is an elite offensive C playing on a lacklustre team. His tool box is amazing and the skill is always evident. Unfortunately, he's playing on a team with no first line players and has been a defensive system prior. Bo's development was great early in his career, but he hit his ceiling in his 3rd season in the league. His metrics haven't improved since then 5 on 5. Last season, his powerplay per 60 was a lot higher than average along with his shooting %, which helped him recover a poor offensive output pace that he was on the first half of the season. He's played with very good teammates (Garland, Pearson, Hoglander, and Brock being the top minutes with) and has maintained that 60 point pace. He is a great player, but he is a jack of all trades, master of none type as Sat described him on 650. He doesn't have an elite ability to his game aside from faceoffs, but 50% of the time that doesn't matter, and there's the rest of the 40 second shift left to be played. According to analytics, he was poor defensively, until last season, where he finished about average, which is a great improvement, but nothing close to Couturier levels like mentioned. My personal comparisons to Bo have been RNH, Trochek and Strome. RNH is very similar in his upbringing with EDM, usage, scoring ability and now being on the third line behind two 1Cs. Trochek has had similar output and Strome has outscored Bo the last 3 seasons. All in the 5 mill range. Along with intangibles, I would value Bo 6-6.5 aav range. Faceoffs are great, but all centers in the NHL are pretty good at them. Most Cs are in the 45-50 percent range I would assume. If you replaced Bo with a 3C that could take faceoffs at around 50%, you would be losing 75 faceoff wins over a season, less than 1 per game. I would be concerned to pay Bo over 7 just based on him being a pure 2C, not a 1C, but I trust management to make the right decision. If we sign him, they will have a plan to fit him into the cap structure to continue improving the team moving forward. If we trade him, I hope it's for a great asset, especially a RHD with top 4 ability.
  22. This is just getting ridiculous. Couturier has better offensive output and is elite defensively. Not close to a comparable to Bo.
