  1. Just looking at it surface level like that, we have a solid #1 and #2 on defence with Hughes and OEL, but after that, it's a bunch of guys who would be playing bottom pair on a contender. We won't survive in the playoffs like that. The depth that Colorado had was insane, and with Girard getting injured, they were able to have a quality piece like Byram step up and be one of the key difference makers on that team. As for forwards, offensively it is a good group, but we lack some elements to the group. IMO we need to strengthen that middle 6 and bottom 6 with faster and better defensive players. As JR mentioned, some players that can play but also have sandpaper in their game as well. Having more young players in the pipeline on ELCs to boost the bottom half lineup quality would've been nice, but it is what it is. Definitely has to be the main focus moving forward. We are set at goalie until Demko retires luckily
  2. Talks picked up today because of the deadline tomorrow. Let's not hate on the insiders for no reason. We are lucky to have some great media people who are just reporting things their sources tell them. Quite often it is true, not everything that is true comes to fruition as a signing or trade.
  3. The organization is very high on Silovs and with Demko being so young, we can spare time developing him. We also have Koskenvuo.
  4. Would definitely be a great signing if we chose to sell some high end assets and stay competitive. Geno is a franchise level talent and is still an over PPG player.
  5. Time for the greatest goaltender in Canucks history and top 5 goalie of all time to be in the rafters of Rogers Arena as well.
  6. He reminds me more of a bigger Garland with his edge work, evasiveness and passing ability. Work ethic checks out too.
  7. The main thing I like from the scouting reports I hear and have read of Kuzmeko is: - He's a play creator with very good passing - Good 2way ability - Makes good passes from below the goal line Those are some elements that can help him be successful in the NHL. We only have a few play driving creators on forward with Petey, Miller and Garland. Hopefully Kuzmenko can translate and add to that list. Exciting times as a Canucks fan already, can't wait until the draft!
  8. A 2C is not worth equal to or more than an elite 1C.
  9. He does not say that. He suggested a possibility to trade Miller for assets and sign Malkin in free agency to offset the loss.
  10. Don't get all the hate in this thread about the 'rumour'. Shannon and Kypper are pretty well connected around the league. This is in line with what Sat and Irf reported a while ago about possibly have a lot of turnover on the roster this off-season. It also lines up with what JR and PA have said to the media, it'll be difficult to make moves with low cap flexibility, but there is a lot of changes that need to be made. Hopefully the offseason lives up to the hype.
  11. And that point would stand if Benning and Weisbrod could do anything competent the back half of the 8 years they were given. Even with a bare cupboard, the fact that after 8 years they couldn't even build a borderline playoff team is pathetic, at the same time of transitioning us from the most progressive team in hockey under the Gillis/Gilman era to the least progressive. I supported Benning during the start as well with the same point, he had a bare cupboard, but at some point, the incompetence became too obvious. Gillis did what he had to to make us a winner and he wanted to rebuild after 2012 like mentioned in this thread already.
  12. Everyone within our organization, even the analytics department, has said that analytics is a tool to help make decisions, not the only truther. We clearly didn't use data and analytics enough with how dinosaur our organization became after we were the most progressive under Gillis and Gilman. Glad we're getting back to progressive ways of doing things!
  13. Fair points about his bad habits, his frustration and lazy moments on ice have definitely rubbed me the wrong way at times as well, but regardless of those, he has elite hockey IQ, playmaking and a really good shot. A legit 1C while being only 2 years older than Bo, which isn't much. JT and Quinn drove our powerplay most of the season. Bo is a good complementary 2C who's goal scoring came a lot from JT Miller creating the play, but he doesn't possess any elite skillset aside from faceoffs. The gap in skill level doesn't really overtake the 2 year age gap for me personally. Regardless, I'm open to trading anyone that isn't Petey, Quinn or Demko if the $ doesn't make sense for younger assets for sure.
  14. Miller would have a bigger impact of loss than losing Bo. Comparing a superstar to a second-line centre.
  15. Aside from the weakness of faceoffs, Petey has been a top 10 centre since entering the league in every other aspect. His only shortcoming came while he was playing injured during the 20-21 season and while recovering the injury the first half of 21-22 and missing training camp.
  16. It's not about selling off top assets, like JR said, if the $ requested doesn't make sense, then we'll move on from pieces for other younger assets via trade. The goal is to be a perennial contender, not the previous regime's mindset of "get in, anything can happen" and we're quite a ways away from that. Lot of work to be done on the cap value and asset management side of things within the organization.
  17. Hard to say that, lot of different factors to look at. Was Lundkvist's usage similar to Rathbone (minutes/game and PP TOI/game), Rathbone played his 23 yr old season vs Lundkvist's 21 yr old season, and Abbotsford was a better offensive team than Hartford. Lundkvist statistically has one of the best U20 seasons for defensemen in the SHL in history. That's a big feat.
  18. Honestly, I cannot recall the exact source right now, I just remember it was a good source who reported the offer around TDL. NYR really wanted Miller before they fell back on Copp.
  19. S650 and all the insiders close to the team (Irf, Sat and Dhaliwal) have been pretty bang on with their reporting. JR himself said they didn't trade Miller at the deadline because of the playoff push. There were confirmed trade offers ready such as NYR's Lundqvist, Chytil and 1st. He's also mentioned that if players like Miller, Horvat and Boeser don't agree to deals the team likes, they will be moved. BB was always reported to stay unless an opportunity arose closer to home in Toronto.
  20. Benning said that when our core was on the down side and about to retire and consistently made moves against the long-term strategy. Also, disagree that it's all talk, there has been a lot done in the organization within the first 5 months not related to player movement and setting new standards. JR/PA are taking over a core that already consists of a 1C, 1D and 1G in their early 20s with multiple other young pieces. Their first few player moves are already supporting the long-term strategy. Of course we have to wait for the moves, but they have history of being best of the best management groups ever in hockey. The intelligence and skill level of this management group is quite high and their communication levels are impeccable so far. Unfair to compare that to Benning's tenure at all.
  21. Cap strapped teams usually have to let go of good pieces for a cheaper rate to become cap compliant after their playoff run (or if they're bad at managing their cap like we were). Since many teams don't have the cap space or internal cap space to take advantage of that, he wants us to have enough room to be one of the teams to take advantage of those situations. Schmidt for a 3rd (both trades ) and Toews for 2 2nds are a couple of examples recently.
  22. If I heard anything incorrectly, please let me know and I'll correct it. Here's a quick summary of what was talked about: - Would be nice to get to know a team in a month or two, but takes time and they have a good sense of what the Canucks are now. - What he said from the start, needs to unravel some contracts to create cap space to make changes moving forward. - Currently in the middle of amateur and pro scouting meetings. Taking inputs from everyone on players and where we can be better. - Have a good handle on what they would like to do. - For the long run, we don't have any young right shot D or young C. Will be the focus moving forward. - Needs a team next season with more balance and depth. Minutes need to be shared to give players a chance to perform at 100% every game. - Will try to find balance and depth through trades and free agency. - Need to free up cap space to capitalize on cap crunched teams. - We're a non-playoff team, so we can't shed too much salary (I believe he meant this in the sense of we're not good enough to move on from too many pieces and still be competitive). - Would like to get younger, players 26 and younger. - We have some very good young players that we can work with. - If the right deal comes along for a veteran player and it makes sense, they will look at that. - Bruce was the ideal guy at the right time, got the most out of most of the players. - We are fortunate we have a franchise goalie. Demko wins us a lot of games. - Wants team to get to a point where we don't have to lean on Demko. - Need more structure in our game, makes the game easier for players. Bruce is capable of that. - Management wants to help coaching staff get to that point. - Understands Brock's situation and how tough of a season it was for him. Understands his situation affected his play. Had communication with Brock's agent on his situation. He was capable of more but still scored a good amount of goals. Management feels for Brock. - There's a possibility of qualifying Brock's 7.5 mill. Would make sense to make a deal with some term however, 2-3 years. He's still young to get a longer term deal later. - Wouldn't have an issue with Brock's QO as he's still team controlled moving forward. - Patrik and Emilie work on contracts. Patrik's had some initial contract talks with agents to lay the ground work and Emilie will take over to negotiate the contracts from there. - By the draft, the team will know their contract situations. - Pettersson is how he played in the second half. He's a star player. Missing training camp and injuries hindered his first half. - Wants to get a consistent couple of players to play with Petey, whether he plays C or wing. - Organization is trying to get more balance and depth so they can put lines together that can stay together for a long time. - We don't have enough sandpaper players. - West games are heavier games. - We have to get some players that are heavier and play with some sandpaper. - Their focus is to build a team that can play and compete in any style of game and can beat any kind of team. - There's more than one way to win a Stanley Cup, doesn't want to copy prior teams that won the cup recently. Have to build a team that can play all styles of hockey. - At the point of his career where being a President is a good role for him. - Really likes his management group a lot. - Always hires people and lets them do their job. He's around if anyone needs to talk to him or bounce ideas off him. Stops by everyones office every other day, sometimes every day just to sit and talk and let them bring things up if needed. Everyone is very capable. If they need help, he will give it. - Vancouver has a bare prospect pipeline, doesn't foresee us taking a goalie in the first round. Could take one later in the draft. Ian Clarke does a terrific job doing a background check on goalie prospects and laying it out to the scouting staff and GM about their potentials. - Halak was a capable back up goalie. When you have Demko, it's hard not to play him in must-win games. Management believes in Martin. - Wants to space the games out more for Demko to feel strong down the stretch next year. Cheers
  23. If Buffalo offered that to Van, we'd take that in a heart beat and run. Dahlin is a franchise level defenseman.
  24. As mentioned, you're not getting Dahlin unless Hughes or Petey are going the other way.
