Yep, and I fully believe Allvin is the guy who will take all the input and make the best decision possible. He seems like a very open minded guy.
-
As long as everyone is aligned and has an open mind, it will work out. Strong collaborative groups imo are more about the sharing of strong ideas and coming to a consensus rather than arguing about who is right.

Good teams sell off picks and prospects at the deadline to push themselves towards being a stronger contender. Weak teams sell off assets for picks and prospects to build a stronger future. JB was doing the former to desperately make the playoffs with a borderline playoff team that took 8 years to build and consistently finished near the bottom of the league. Thanks for proving my point.

Gillis' weakness was the draft, I believe he's owned up to that afterwards through some radio interviews locally. Sure Benning started with a bare cupboard and an aging core, I also used to share that point of view, but through time I realized he just didn't have the capacity to follow a strategy and build his assets and cap value properly. There was absolutely no reason for us not to do a full on rebuild from 2014 to 2016. I lost respect for Benning once he backstabbed Linden, who wanted to do a proper rebuild. The past decade is on Benning and his management team, no one else.

Actually Burke was more responsible for our core, Nonis' only significant addition was Luongo. You could argue Edler was under his watch, but I'm assuming most of the scouts were in place from the Burke tenure. Gillis and Gilman had the asset management and cap value skills to put us over the top.

JR literally has not said this. We're not one of the better teams in the league and we're not even a playoff team yet, let alone a contender. He said we are a team that relies on our goaltending too much and won 50% of our games because of our goaltending. He said we are a couple of good pieces away from being just a playoff team. JR and Allvin both have said we have work to do to build a contender. The organization lacked structure and it's slowly being fixed. They've said the team lacks structure and that will slowly be fixed. It's been reported that they didn't like some of the moves the previous regime made. We weren't in the right 'cycle' to be making some of the moves we were making. They've said they have to do a lot of work to build structure, depth and cap space. They have to bring in more 20-25 year old players because we don't have quality young players pushing for spots. They have to build value within the cap and build more asset value. Like I said, Benning's weaknesses were communication, asset management, time management, and strategic direction. Even if we made the playoffs with him this season, I don't have any confidence that the past management group would be able to build cap value, assets, or structure to make us a contender. I had confidence when Linden was the president because he wanted to do a proper rebuild, but the management group backstabbed him to rush the rebuild and failed epically. In hindsight, Linden was right. I believe I read somewhere that statistically, the previous regime was the worst tenure in Canucks history.

I don't consider Sekeres or Price as part of the media. Never liked their 'reporting' or attempts to stir the pot constantly for useless topics. Where did he even get the 1 week per month from? All I've heard from JR is that he's been in and out from hotel to rink since he got hired lol.
-
Not really. Jim Benning had major weaknesses in communication, asset management, time management, and strategic direction. He is a good scout and has a great hockey mind, but he did not possess the capabilities of being a good manager and/or president.

For sure, not sure if it'll be possible to bring in two top 4 guys in one off season so I kept Schenn with Hughes, definitely would be great if we could fill the 1RD and 2RD.
-
Huh?
-
Dermott could be on the right side though. If they replace Myers with for example a Marino, I like the structure of the defense. Hughes - Schenn OEL - Marino Rathbone - Dermott

Tbh, I didn't find it emotional at all. They said they wanted him back and they have a history of not giving early extensions to coaches to make sure their hands aren't tied, even with Stanley Cup winners like Sullivan. Like JR said earlier in the year, even if they have the best, they're always looking for better. I'm sure they have candidates that they view just as highly as Bruce, if not better.
-
Don't think there will be issues dealing any of Bo, JT or Brock if necessary. Might run into some problems with the Pearson, Myers, Dickinson trades however

The puppet comment is not fair at all. Upper management level positions in any organization/business have huge amounts of responsibilities/duties. Seems like we have a good amount of shared duties within the organization. Allvin is brand new to the position, just like any of us new to a job, there will be a learning curve and development process with your coach, who is JR in this circumstance. Any proposal and move have to be approved by higher ups the same as JR approving any move the management group decides to make.
-
Dermott is already playing at a 5th Dman level. He's been one of our better defensive D.
-
Actually the other poster is correct. JR was on the radio and said specifically if they cannot work a deal with Miller, he will be dealt for assets. That sentiment is the same for other players as well in the "plan B" situation, which include Bo and Brock.

Nice post, and for sure all great teams have great goalies as well. I think the difference is that to differ ourselves from 'most teams in the league' and become contenders, we have to have a franchise talent goalie that we don't rely on for wins. Like what Vasilevsky is to Tampa.
-
?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!? Are we really criticizing management over a crucial evaluation period that takes time to properly know your players and staff? They've created a plan and the Dermott and Hamonic moves are a template of what that means, getting younger and creating value in cap. Rathbone was injured for a while and we ran into injury issues after. Letting him get #1 minutes was probably the best thing to do than bouncing him up and down between leagues. There's already so many external things in motion like tournaments, development camps, in-house renovations, new practice rink, etc. Maybe they're not impressed because mediocrity doesn't impress a management group that just came off winning 3 Stanley Cups over the last decade. They're setting a standard, they're setting new expectations and they're not making knee jerk moves for short term success. This is the most confident I've been in a group of individuals running the Canucks.

That stat does not count for the amount of defensive breakdowns and high danger chances against that Demko was covering up. He was easily the reason we won a lot of the games just from an eye test. JR went on S650 and even said we won about 50% of our games because of our goaltending.
-
Hard not to think that he won't be pushing 40 points next season once he's more climatized to the team from the get go, while only getting PP2 time. With his defensive play being at the tops of the league, I'd argue he's been playing at a solid #2 level the latter half of the season.
-
One thing I recall from one of JR's earlier pressers, always having the next candidate in mind. Whether you sign the best player or best staff member, always searching and looking for better. It would suck to lose Bruce, but I'm sure they have a few candidates in mind that are just as good, if not better, to replace him.
-
I think what many mean by that is a record that was the result of a superstar goalie standing on his head most of the time over the 50 games. We're a borderline playoff team right now. We'll be a playoff team with a couple more good pieces. We have work to do before we're a contender.
-
They were saying how your superstars need to make everyone around them better, and that is the expectation for Petey, Hughes and Demko moving forward.
-
That is also a dangerous mindset to build a team with. The sample size was only 50 games and included a new head coach bump with a lot of wins coming on the back of a superstar goalie. Things could easily go sideways again and we'd be one bad stretch away from missing the playoffs again.
-
Notu sure if I heard correctly but I believe he also said that's only one example, there's many more key areas to improve but didn't want to get to into it. Feels great to finally have competent management. Glad to see they're not using a sample size of 50 games to minimize the work and are taking an honest evaluation of what players and staff they have within the organization.
