It's probably the hardest bad habit to break with this team. They are so used to playing behind, not in front of, their goalie over the years. It may take a couple of years of Tocchet & co. make them play to win, instead of not to lose every night.

Not sure about this. I think the Canucks led the league in blown-lead losses this year.

This loss against L.A. is yet another perfect example why we need/ed a REBUILD.   For all the "dreamers" that say "we're close", after Tock-It took over, the facts are; that since the All-Star break, the Canucks have only managed to win against 4 teams (a total of 6 games) that are in a playoff position out of 27 Games.  Sad but True!

The reality is we've been playing bottom-feeder teams for the last two months who are dedicated to tanking - unlike our "smart" team that appears great against those basement dwellers.  When it comes to playing good teams - we still can't compete with this same core group of players we've had for years.  We have a lonnnnnng way to go............

Yes, trade Petey, Hughes and Demko, and even the janitor because Bedard (or whoever they can draft) is the savior and he will definitely change this sad franchise the second he landed his feet in Rogers Arena.

None of this garbage will matter when they start the season 2-7-1 next season, also all the people happy about these wins are ok with being mediocre and not having any star players on their team, the top 5 in this draft are star players, something the Canucks roster does not have right now

Just so you know, Pettersson already took it personal when Allvin said the team has no star last season, and Petey is playing like one already this season, even before the coach change.

Now we’re playing every game like it’s game 7. What a joke. I hope you people are happy with this win because it increases our odds of being crap for the next 15 years

I didn’t get the memo, but are Petey, Hughes and Demko all going to  leave the Canucks after this season? That is the only way I could see the team being crap for the next 15 years.

Or maybe the good teams are coasting and the bad teams are trying to lose?

Until they can do it right out of the gate these late season pushes will always be in vain.

I don’t see any facts that support your argument about good teams coasting and bad team tanking, but I did see the Canucks play better defensively since the coaching change.

The big concern we Canucks fan have should be can they sustain this at the beginning of next season, not the slimmest chance of landing first overall. Because with the core we have, we should be good enough to challenge every team on a nightly basis.

Why is his last line ridiculous? We go all in to try to squeeze into the playoffs. The OEL trade was a classic example. When the organization accidentally tanks this many times, it's a clear tell their goal has been to squeeze into the playoffs if everything goes exactly right. Their plan right now, no matter how they sell it, is not a plan for a sustained window of Cup competitiveness. It's for a brief window in which we have a pretty good chance to make the playoffs.

What's wrong with setting a goal to make the Playoffs for a team that has not made it in the last 9 years?

Or are you implying if we could get Bedard we will immediately become Cup contender?

    Lol okay.

That’s why you see top teams mail it in against bottom feeders every night.

The Kings playoff position is secured. You really think they’re gonna empty the tank against us in the middle of March?

This honestly happens every season. We won a few games late and fans are right back into believing the team is something they’re not.

The Kings are fighting for 1st in the Pacific Division.

Actually a lot of the Playoffs teams are still fighting for position in the standing to get home-ice advantage, so I do not see how they would not "empty the tank" against bottom-feeder like the Canucks in the middle of March.

One thing that hasn't been talked about is that the current roster has much more to offer than the previous roster that Benning inherited.

People are saying we did this retool thing under Benning and it didn't work, so it's not going to work now.  The problem with that argument is that Benning inherited a team that basically had nothing.  We didn't have 3-4 star players all entering their prime years.  We had declining assets that needed to be moved or retired.  I made this point many times which is why I defended Benning for many years.  I thank him for his contribution in leaving us with Petey, Hughes and Demko, plus some support players and prospects.  Benning's failure was trades, free agent signings and cap management.  The OEL/Garland deal was the last straw for me and I knew after that debacle he had to go.

Right now, we are in a much different spot than when Benning took over.  We have most of our core pieces already in place.  And they are moving into their prime years.  They are all ready to take the next step and therefore they need the support players to push them over the top.  Collecting draft picks and prospects for the next 3-4 years isn't going to help Petey and Hughes become better players, and certainly isn't going to help them to win more games.  In fact, it will have the opposite effect.  It will drive them right out of town.

Also, I think some people misunderstood what major surgery is.  Major surgery is going in and fixing the main problems of the team and replacing those parts with other parts.  It does not mean to throw the body away and start from scratch.  This I think is the confusing part for some.  And Iike I said earlier, some people also confused the Horvat trade as a sign that we are rebuilding.  When in actual fact the plan the entire time was to use that draft pick to acquire a top 4 RHDman.

The major surgery has begun.  But the body is still intact.  We have the foundational pieces in place to be a winner.  You can have 5-6 top 5 picks in a row and never get a Petey or a Hughes.  If you don't believe me ask Edmonton.  They needed like 4-5 tries plus some luck just to get McDavid.  Who knows, maybe we will get the same luck this year and land Bedard, or one of the other 2 franchise centres.  I think we are due for some good luck.  The signs are all there that this may be the year that it happens.  If it does, then I think we will all be on the same page together...

This is the voice of reason. I agreed 200%!

  9. People need to remember from Day 1 Rutherford got the job, he never committed to a rebuild, and in his several news conference he reiterated that even the team needs a major surgery, but they are going to do a retool instead of a rebuild. They are going to bring in young players in their mid-20s from other teams. That is their plan all along, nothing more, nothing less, and they stick to that plan in this year trade deadline. That's why I think they did a good job, but I am disappointed as a Canuck fan. Especially after they traded away that conditional pick to Detroit for Flip Hronek. There is no way one could justify this deal one way or the other.

It may be that Pettersson will never win the Hart or Art Ross trophies while Connor McDavid is in the league, but I think he has a really good chance of winning the Selke... maybe even regularly.

He is improving day by bay defensively, both on the PK and and at even strength, tonight was a good example.

He intercepted a pass on the PK, which led to the beginning of the comeback... and then saved a goal when the Canuck net was empty, a goal which would have sealed it for St. Louis.

Right now he is easily the team MVP... Demko hasn't been the factor he was last year and JT Miller has come back to earth after his career 2021/2022 season.

I wonder if he will make the Selke short list... will be interesting to see.

I want Petey to win a Cup before McDavid.
