that was my only criticism i had of your post (your use of that word) but you got stubborn on me and i could have done this dance much longer bleacher report has pillar ranked as the 15th best major league outfielder and they use offense for about 70% of their rating so at worst pillar is average in the view of others as well and if you give more weight to his defence he is closing in on being an outstanding and an elite center fielder but we were only talking offense. at bats and i had not even started on doing research on barney to support my view of him so you saved me doing that . thanks i do read and appreciate most of your posts -

pillar had a batting average of .266 (as a cf ranked 8th in mlb for batting average, 12th for rbi, 18th for runs scored, 26th for home runs) barney had a batting average of .269 atrocious .... clearly -

so your definition of atrocious then is below average? a bit of an extreme term to use on either pillar or barney unfair in my view -

i consider an at bat to include base running and run production pillar is not bad overall he does an average job of helping the offense and he has average at bats if you do not just use quality at bat as the definition but i do agree he is not a good hitter -

i find your posts to be mostly balanced and reasonably well thought out so how do you reach your conclusion that both barney and pillar are atrocious with a bat i do not see that at all and disagree at worst they are average i think pillar still has some upside i'm curious to see how you explain your view of these 2 -

he is a good depth signing mostly plays infield .. but can also play outfield jays will need depth this year i think he also has a decent bat, batting average, and has some speed on the base paths -

it is actually a bit surprising how difficult it has been for top tier strikers from other leagues to perform at an elite level in mls the only big difference i keep hearing about is that the pace of the mls game is higher than other leagues good to see there are a handful of strikers who have made this transition nicely . . toronto seems to have 2 of them i think the caps biggest issue is how to attract the elite level striker and expect them to play on a non grass surface an almost impossible situation for the team -

i liked overall what AA did but if we are to be critical i think the one transaction that will really be called into question more and more as time passes is what he paid to acquire dickey dickey ended up being a middling starter at best.. and did not impact much the team's rise to prominence (although we really do not know much about his impact inside the clubhouse or with other pitchers.. but his knuckleball is so unique so it is hard to imagine what impact he really could have had) i think most would undo that trade were that possible -

boras can be who he wishes and do whatever he wants for his clients sanchez can be traded before he walks if he proves unwilling to sign a contract that makes sense for the jays there are way too many over priced contracts for players in mlb price is a very good example of this $30 million a year for a pitcher who cannot win in the playoffs -

your whole view on EE is premised on him resigning with the jays no matter what you have no contingency plan in place for the jays if he failed to sign management has to account for that possibility and did so you do not have to and so can go on saying whatever you desire -

if i could give you 2 reps i would very well said and i have egg on my face over ee as i projected a few months ago that he'd get 5 x 25 million but face it. me and others (more knowledgeable) were dead wrong and the blue jay brass was in fact correct that is the market. .not what WAR or so called experts might say (or even a wannabe like me might say) and like you said.. let's see how this plays out no one before the season projected the blue jays starters to perform as they did management was smart or lucky we'll see how their decisions work out this year but i credit them with good decisions last off season and let's face it without the starting pitching this team would not have made the playoffs the offense did not get them there and the offense is too one dimensional and hence. .. flawed it needs to be changed . and that is now happening -

i agree with you i think we both view jb in much the same way as a player (and with respect too for his playing) so what is that player worth given his age and you have to factor in the negotiations what his real options are (and he really has few to none) certainly less than ee on an annual basis i think 2 years ... $30 million total . he can divide it up as he wishes between the 2 years but at least 25% of the contract must be alocated to year 2 or he can take 1 year $16 million contract and be free to do as be wishes next off season -

you are in denial the jays had the proper funds to resign ee and put forward the best offer ee received before he in fact signed ee rejected that offer jb acted a bit like a lunatic in 2016 preseason making noises that he was going to get a contract for 150 million i think his antics made the jays realize they needed to be fair and firm in how they dealt with ee because they could not get involved with outlandish expectations.. and had to be prepared to move on if the player saw the world differently jb was well paid as a jay both he and management made a calculated decision on his last contract when he had one good year turns out he was a late bloomer it could have gone the other way as well there was risk jays made out nicely jb was still very well paid he clearly feels the jays owe him something as he was extremely good value for his contract numbers but i doubt he'd be offering to reimburse the jays if he had failed jb is showing why he is disliked by so many i still like him as a player and as a jay but he clearly is best as a jay .. he was and is a fit still -

i am pretty certain jays will not give jb $17 million per for 2 years the 2nd year will be less if it is offered he is a declining player body is breaking down.. is an average defender. he will not be a better player in 2018 edit: jb has very little leverage to try to play hardball he can be stubborn and sign for even less with another team but that will only hurt himself and permanently damage his relationship and future standing with the organization (kinda like the bure canuck situation till resolved) -

i think you might be overrating the real options jb has if he signs elsewhere it will cost that team the salary it pays jb and a draft pick no one appears to have stepped forward to offer jb a contract with significant value seems a bit similar to the ee situation except jb's likeability factor ..and hence his marketability .. is lower in almost every other baseball city than toronto the jays appear to have properly valued both players ... and were rejected i doubt the jays are going to step forward and give jb more now.. i suspect it more likely will be a slightly lesser offer and if jb rejects that. .. then what is his real option? sign for less with another team so that he will be attractive enough to that team that they will give up a draft pick as part of the signing? he'd have to give them term too.. without any opt out clauses.. to make that draft pick cost worthwhile probably no team will do a 1 year deal with him jays would do a 1 year deal and they are jb's best option i think because next off season that draft compensation issue disappears for him and he can test the market again after proving himself in 2017 -

if the prices are right .. it would be good to have both saunders and bautista back but saunders needed to be freed before he could have any chance to rejoin the team as the cost to have just kept him was way beyond his value not sure what saunders is worth but it has to be a chunk less than morales... other teams might outbid the jays for him -

and that is largely how people viewed last off season and were shown to be wrong as the starting pitching rebuild turned out better than anyone could have predicted surprisingly good actually i think i like what this management did last off season i'm gonna give things time to play out this season before i can assess the current off season which in fact is not yet over there are funds available still for further additions to the present roster -

you can only say that because you assume EE would have resigned with them think about what position the jays would be in if they had waited and EE had received a better offer and chosen to not resign with the jays hindsight is always 20/20 try to deal with the situation as it unfolded in real time and then tell me what the jays should have done -

it says that EE and his agent misread the market overplayed their hand and forced the jays to move on without him -

wow you are a brilliant boy you just do not understand the mechanics of negotiations and offers and counter offers but you still insist you know all of the intimate details of what is going on i have nothing further to say to you about how contracts are negotiated do some research if you need to educate yourself -

that is not correct technically unless the jays revived the $80 million offer after it was countered i do not think they did but they likely made it clear they would consider that offer should EE have a change of heart in the immediate future he did not -

toronto did not take the first offer off the table the moment a counter offer was presented that amounts to a rejection of the initial offer and that offer is killed not accepting that offer, and countering it with a pretty high number, made the jays realize it was unlikely they could do ongoing business with EE and his agent oh by the way not hearing much from jose about how is he is going to get the 5 x $30 million he was stubbornly demanding in preseason man he sure misread his own value part of me kinda wishes jays do not resign him (out of spite) but he is a good player and the jays could use him he just needed a reality check a 1 year or at most 2 year contract at an average of around 15 million would be fair (not quite 150 million, but not welfare rates either jose.. just get off your high horse and sign with the jays and let's move on)
