PREDICT THE SCORE CONTEST: Blackhawks @ Canucks January 2nd 2020
coastal.view replied to goalie13's topic in Canucks Talk
nucks win 4 - 2 nucks score first ep40 gets first nuck goal rous takes the first nuck penalty miller gets gwg nucks with most shots let's make it a new year's resolution to 100% upvote the author for each thread we post in -
record book issues should be ignored anyone can compare various eras simply by making mathematical adjustments the record book has been continually tainted anyway rapid expansion made it easier for a while to score goals/assists the league schedule was also expanded in the past to add many more games resulting in higher player point totals i hate the loser point but it is here to stay i hate even more that the goalie stats are especially skewed by this ot loss event they get credit for the win in ot but an ot loss is simply ignored and not added to their record

don't read too much into that yet a lot of 5 or plus goals games have inflated the + side for the nucks but overall the nuck offense lacks consistency good thing the team can improve in that area -

What Stops A Bad Guy With A Gun In Texas?
coastal.view replied to SabreFan1's topic in Off-Topic General
the social illness in american culture and society is shocking these repeated stories (despite some good coming from the responding gunfire in this one) are depressing the inaction by those in power and other leadership figures will ensure this ugly tale will have numerous additional future chapters this is not a legacy about a strong nation with high moral and ethical standards but a saga about one with a disabling chronic illness that refuses to take necessary strong tasting medicine and other treatment there is a high degree of insanity in the non productive approach to this blight einstein provided a definition of this condition due to visual limitations and profound hearing loss our neighbours to the south are not able to comprehend his message -

wow shocking, saddening for a community that has faced so many obstacles and disadvantages to loose a rising treasure this young is completely tragic i hope the communities stay strong in their time of grieving -
i have read multiples of your posts ragging on baum so explain something a bit more globally about the team then cuz i'm certain baum does not have sole say on overall team defence i suspect green sets the overall team offense and defense systems and baum implements the details as it pertains to the defence group i have much bigger issues with how the overall team defence and slipped notably as the season has progressed and i really am not sure how that is pinned on baum but i'm confident you will explain this to me as i suspect i'm missing something here

so you want bo to wait at least 3 more years for his wingers to arrive ? i think the team has decided to keep gaud as a center otherwise i'd convert him to wing and put him on bo's line bo has shown he is a decent 2nd line center, heavy and hard to deal with he can be productive as well but he needs a productive winger.. miller fit the bill but he simply seems better with ep40, or ep40 benefits from playing with him and say what you will about pearson he played a significant role on a team that won a stanley cup i see 2nd line potential for both him and bo they both play playoff style games
-
i largely agree the talent base on this team is improved over last year's team but the team is still needing to resolve 2 key issues 1. it lacks a clear team identity and has become a bit too one dimensional, overall team defence has gone downhill as the season has progressed, not sure why this has happened with such a veteran laden team (miller, sutter, beagle, horvat - each line has/had a key veteran). the goalie tandem is good. the d grouping is deeper and more talented then last season. 2. the team is unable to find and maintain an adequate second line. bo appears a bit cursed it seems. 2 new players are acquired, either of whom can play on his line, but ferland is injured, baer (the depth fall back guy) fades a bit due to injury, leivo is now out, and miller connects too well with ep40 (and you simply have to support ep40's talent over bo if that is the choice presented), so there is no obvious 3rd player for a bo/pearson combo. bo, the new captain, has also seen his game produce a wee bit less (he seems to want to do a bit more on his own to carry the team). i think baer misplayed his hand and the team should forgive him and make amends. he should be recalled and given a final opportunity to play with bo and pearson. if baer can't cut it, then it's up to sutter or loui to round out the bo/pearson pairing. (the recent gaud, rous, virt line shows promise and maybe the next 20 games should be about which of these 2 lines is really the 2a or the 2b line)

really? let's see - canadian franchises ownership/management vs the rule books theory ottawa - melnyk laffs - ballard, and subsequent years with quick fix mentality (you think the league is making rules against one of its top franchises?) habs - that franchise just seems to have lost its edge and really has not come close in decades now (loss of their former special draft status has squeezed off the pipeline of quebec talent solely to that team) jets - jury out on them, newish to winnipeg again, but looking solid this year despite changes coilers - really? rule book? bias against them? yet all those 1st round picks? crappy player development? franchise that was run by former players resting on their laurels? flames - i have not seen a powerhouse team in that city since the 80s nucks - yes a brief surge to the very top of the league, and the rules may have been unbalanced in 2011 finals, but the team could not sustain due to ownership/management/failure to draft, explain how this team's 1 sole playoff run was due to league rules i see your 2 rulebook theory and posit a different theory canadian clubs cannot go through a proper and thorough rebuild because fan base demands a winner sooner and corners are cut to speed up the process so a team cannot ever become truly elite (vancouver excepted in that 1 run that barely lasted 2 seasons)

i have always been a bit cautious about jake i see a player on a slow and steady development path requiring patience from the fan base he could still develop into a good quality hockey player i do not see massive upside for him, but will be very happy to be wrong about this not sure how you think jake's speed will result in him developing into a player who becomes a bit iconic about the position he plays in hockey yes, jake can get there, but he is a bit lost when he arrives bert was not as fast (the game is faster today) but he was a smart hockey player and he seriously impacted the game for a number of years he had useful size, hands, and serious hockey iq jake has speed, is inconsistent in his use of his size and hands it is difficult to perceive how he will see and play the game at the highest levels but jake is still developing so we do not know yet what he can fully bring to the team
-
yes and so i thought i wonder how big bert really was so went to look it up 6'3, 246 pounds um, so yeah, jake is never going to be that size bert was big big like lindros players bounced off him he scored many goals in the slot as opposing d could not control him the league made a subtle rule enforcement change cuz bert was getting too big of an advantage by his size i'm trying to remember what rule it was, likely something to do with interference

i think hughes spike in minutes recently is mostly due to edler's injury hughes is not physically fully developed yet i think it is a mistake to make him play huge minutes for the balance of the season nucks recent history is that our better dmen are too often injured i think hughes will join that grouping if he is too heavily used at his very young age when edler returns, hughes minutes have to go back to closer to the 20 min per game range team needs to think longer term about hughes
