A Generational Talent ( Discussion )
coastal.view replied to Snapshot85's topic in General Hockey Discussion
i don't agree gretz revolutionized the game his vision was remarkable and subsequent players modeled their games after him he was finesse in an era of brawn that his style of play was more like the current state of the game his approach is more common now and so his impact may seem less remarkable now then it actually was he really helped develop the modern game -
ICBC Excessive Speeding Prohibition
coastal.view replied to Thirty Niner's topic in Off-Topic General
the definition of excessive speed was changed from 30 to 40 kmph over the limit a while ago when the penalties were increased and impounding the vehicle was introduced for this violation realistically though it is 45 kmph as a judge ruled in speeding decision that there is a rule of thumb used in speeding offences to allow a 5 kmph leeway on speed you cannot get a speeding ticket is you are going 5 kmph or less over the speed limit (school zones, construction zones, and probably a couple other zones are excepted from this leeway) i am rather stunned how someone can get 2 of these in a 5 month time period seems to be rather irresponsible maybe make a note to self... never exceed speed limit by 40 kmph or more, no matter what -
[Discussion] Jake Discussion
coastal.view replied to cowboy644's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
another jake thread??? really ??? miller has taken jake's potential spot in the top 6 jake has to hang on to his 3rd line role now or he will be traded -
miller is what this team needs actually, stone would have been an ideal fit but miller is stone-lite very credible pick up and we will not regret this addition the cost was fine.. he is locked in on a reasonable contract for what he brings i have no problems with this acquisition and have said so from the outset kudos to jb for getting jt

what's the problem here people? nazzy gave his views to the athletic and was probably paid something for it that was his choice the cost is passed on via subscription however, if it is used as the basis of a thread here it should be copied and posted those are the rules of the site (as i understand them anyway) this has nothing to do with the athletic charging a subscription fee

i find these historical discussions somewhat fascinating so many strong opinions out there schneider was on a good contract at the time there were also strong credible rumors the oilers offered more for him but the nucks wanted to trade him out of the conference i felt at the time that a salary dump by the nucks should have been part of that trade since the oilers offer was apparently better and could have been leveraged for a bit more from nj i thought

you simply refuse to recognize the risk of injury to players in preseason games brock was hurt and not available for the balance of the season due to injury but you choose to ignore that factor and simply insist players be ready for the season without regard for injury you do not comment on how you would respond if injury occurred if your wishes were followed keep your blinders on helps you think your criticism is fair
-
and if players had been injured as a result of your suggested deployment what do you say about that ???? it's a cost of doing business? even though it is counter productive to you wanting a full line up fully ready to play for game 1 ?? how is green supposed to reconcile these 2 competing realities? there is no satisfactory strategy to resolve these as it is a bit of a catch 22 so is it really fair to criticize green in the manner you do ?
-
that is music to my ears i so hope you are right about that i really really wanted stone on this team if pod can be close to his level of play that would be excellent for this team the missing piece
-
righto and exactly how was green supposed to do that? brock was out for the balance of the preseason due to concussion protocol and if he did do what you say you wish to see and someone was injured you'd likely be on here dissing for green risking player health for meaningless preseason games explain how green can look good ??? with details please

coastal.view replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings

The athletic projects the Canucks 26th overall?
coastal.view replied to cuporbust's topic in Canucks Talk
well i predict that nucks will finish between 14th to 18th in the league this year and this is also probably not worth the amount of tech space (since i'm not using paper) it's written on -
i'm betting schaller and goldy are gone gaud stays if brock cannot go (unlikely though) gaud gets sent down for asset management reasons and is the first call up should injury or a trade happen

Which F or D pairing will have the most impact this year?

[Waivers] 29 players - Sept. 26, 2019
coastal.view replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
went to the game last night thanks to smithers joe i was impressed with zaitsev, smooth skater and solid dman not sure why the laffs gave up on him gaud and baer had an excellent first period good to see hughes play in real life for first time, tanev and him are a solid pairing the rest of the team was bleh pretty much demko let in a few softies -
i'm still on the fence about this so i think waiting for a year is best option and things will be clearer then
-
good thing team has a deep roster with extra bodies prior to the season starting two games left, if this keeps up no one will need to be cut, attrition will take care of that and really, loui would look great on the 1st line

[Signing] Lightning re-sign Brayden Point
coastal.view replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
um you are a tax expert ?? please include in your assessment the necessary adjustments for all the days connected to out of town games for each player (there are at least 41 of them regular season) most players have the opportunity to spend additional days away from their home team's jurisdiction during all star break and other cba negotiated breaks (so in most cases those don't count either) simply using home team's city as jurisdiction for taxes is just too simplistic remember torts? he was coach of the nucks was never a resident of bc even his home games in vancouver were away games for him for tax purposes -
You know that feeling when the Canucks are about to play..
coastal.view replied to Snapshot85's topic in Canucks Talk
if you are correct i'm sure there are already numerous nhl teams calling up jb and offering 1st round picks and more for jake cuz he is just in such demand let me know when that trade is concluded so a review of the next draft can be made so we can decide who we would prefer to draft and then watch jb draft someone else better then we would have picked -
You know that feeling when the Canucks are about to play..
coastal.view replied to Snapshot85's topic in Canucks Talk
you do realize that draft picks should be assessed against the entire draft class not just one round and jake has no remaining value from being a first round pick that is now just an historical fact - he was picked in the 1st round he is now an average or so forward with both upside and downside potential as such, he likely no longer is worth a replacement 1st round pick as all of those players are viewed as having much more upside value the 1st round of the draft is a bit of a lottery, you can loose big or win big... or like us with jake, kinda do neither i doubt any team out there will offer a 1st round pick for him skating fast to no where is really not a great talent being paid low value to reflect his worth is hardly a selling feature and yes, he can help a team today fill a roster spot motte arguable does the same or more for even less i am lukewarm about jake he could still make it and fulfill more of his potential he still might not he requires a lot of energy from a coach due to his apparent lack of self direction/motivation and so he still requires maturation before he really is a true pro patience will run out on him
