  1. 2011 roster - mostly fully mature players in their prime (that team was the best in the nhl despite their failure to win the cup) current roster - key components are immature and it is not clear what their full development might bring (success for this team would to simply make the playoffs this season) you might want to revise your poll clearly the 2010 - 11 team was playoff worthy - not sure why you make that a question
  2. i'm pretty supportive of the canucks overall i think they are doing a credible job and the team has a bright future i state that in many of my posts i think you need to be clearer in your thread negative comments regarding posts on here is not the same as being negative towards the canucks your thread appears to suggest they are i am accept / admit i am more negative towards posters as many posts are simply not well thought out and/or attempt to preach to cdc users (some of yours have that quality) and also don't further complicate things by somehow equating negative views on here to somehow parroting media viewpoints that simply appears to disrespect many dissenting viewpoints that's my 2 cents worth of commentary and likely that is overvaluing the value of this post
  3. mls may be showing a slight loss position based on revenues (an average of about 2 million per club) but the league is secretive about other sources of revenue and how it is distributed we are told how player transfer fees received are divided between the league and team not sure how expansion funds are divided or other sources of revenue club values are still increasing so that should tell us a lot and the fact that there is a line up of wealthy trying to acquire a new club
  4. well first a little hair splitting a 10% bump in salary is not required for a last contract year of that value he could be qualified for 10 million the tactic assumes the player improves to that extent to make the qualifying offer worthwhile to the team ? but really the player is betting on his own failure to reach that value in order to get to free agency to me that seems a bit counter intuitive to most truly competitive athletes or it is signalling to the team that the player really wants to move on after this contract the real valued athlete will get max value on their next contract regardless of free agency happening but i guess to most players that is not a guarantee for their more modest skills
  5. well i guess fans like to think it is their money that is being spent i don't, so it really does not matter to me i'm more concerned about seeing a steady progression or development of the core players which appears to be on track and that the team avoids cap hell that some teams are now facing due flawed planning so i think the chances of avoiding early overspending is somewhat inhibited by having cap space at this stage of the team building tied up as it increases greatly the chances it will be properly assigned to the key players since it will only become available when they expect significant contracts suggesting acquiring subban at this stage of team building is appealing but his contract term and aav will in fact most likely create the same salary cap hell we see in other teams this off season so your appetite for him only confirms my comfort with the present salary cap situation making him unaffordable to the team
  6. i'm not really worried about that issue it is a forced savings plan to some extent those funds will be freed up when we need the money the most to deal with new contracts for hughes and ep40 not sure how you think that could be done if subban's huge contract was added this off season ?
  7. nah i don't think that is the plan for this team look at the contracts of these newly acquired players they are all moveable (well myers does have a 1 year nmc) if young prospects overtake these guys.. that is good for the team but there are not going to be any positions gifted on this roster if guadette improves more he can push out sutter or beagle, otherwise he is on the bubble gad can prove his worth and try to bump roussel or perhaps ferland same goes for the other prospects other then a bit of weak depth in the d grouping the team no longer has any real holes
  8. i'm not really sure why so many think this benefits the player ? the player delays receiving a bundle of money till the last year of the contract (rather then up front - getting a bundle early makes that money worth more, it can be invested and additional interest etc derived from that money) if the player is wanted by the team a replacement contract can be and often is negotiated in the final year and the qualifying offer never comes into play if the player under performs.. how does this bump payment help him? team will not qualify him and so he looses security ... if the last year were more reasonable the cost to qualify him after a so so year is more likely what good will a year early to free agency get the player if he has been more mediocre ? i'm sure i'm missing something here but it is not obvious to me why this is a player driven contract structure (i'd more readily argue it is better for the team as they defer paying till the last season)
  9. darn i would read this right now at 6:50 pm just done working and am very hungry grrrr.. . now i have to head home and cook something up would rather just eat your suggestion right now
  10. i'm thinking that you are thinking this year's team might be able to break into the top 5 ranking for most improved? a fan can hope
  11. very safe deal i think it looks more like 5 million bonus for getting us through to and winning the cup and 1.9 per for 2 seasons in a show me deal it is a good average and term to build on if he is an elite goalie
  12. cheers good to clarify that point i think the miller trade was excellent he will help the ep40 line or ensure that the bo line is very balanced and very heavy.. . i'm actually thinking i'd prefer to first try ferland first with brock and ep40 in order to see how much damage bo, jt, and pearson can do to other teams top lines (or weaker lines if that ends up being the matchup) that is going to be one really tough line for other teams to have to deal with they are quickly going to get a reputation in the league
  13. not sure what you are saying? lucic has a nmc so cannot be sent to the minors and if lucic is acquired i doubt he'd modify his trade restrictions for any season except the expansion draft it makes no sense that he would agree to a trade to vancouver if that in fact meant he would not be guaranteed a spot on the canuck team he is guaranteed to stay in the nhl if he remains with the coilers
  14. the cap savings in such a loan situation would be identical to the savings achieved by sending him to the comets.. at least there he provides some depth for injury i could not determine if the huet example you gave actually happened in reality the article says it had not yet been given league approval
  15. he feels he is the most productive leaf and should be paid accordingly i think few would hesitate to suggest that if matthews were in his shoes that matthews should not seek in excess of 10.5 million marner views a lot of the blow back he is getting as a double standard due to his position - a winger and because he is a toronto native - and should show loyalty and take less for the team even though tavares, matthews, and nylander did not take less the problem is that he is challenging hockey barriers/traditions panarin is a winger who signed for more then matthews, for longer term, and was a ufa marner wants a similar amount, for shorter term and is a rfa matthews pulled exactly that off, his negotiation was private, and apparently rather quick the team is treating marner differently and is prepared to taint him for seeking what they gave matthews too a great extent the laffs are the authors of this situation they signed jt to a monster contract as a free agent.. that contract will really hurt in a few years but it set a salary standard for the team the other issue lingering is how the team forced a restrictive contract on marner the first time round marner has some motive to try to recoup past earnings he was denied
  16. why wouldn't montreal just buy out Alzner (nucks would have bought out loui if that were feasible) loui adds cap stress to them and saves us a fair bit by moving him it is also terribly optimistic to believe he will somehow reverse his downward trend i really do not see why montreal would do this i think it would cost a fair bit more then just taking on Alzner they need the cap space so they can present additional offer sheets and entertain us through this long slow summer
  17. not really sure what the discussion is team has 24 players signed (gaudette is not included on capfriendly, is shown as already demoted) assuming none are moved (which does seem unlikely, but it is safer to assume no moves are made) the team will sign 2 more - brock and goldobin they will be at 26 and need to move 3 that is the paramount issue.. who to move safely to maintain asset management i say schaller, loui, and hughes schaller and loui need waivers.. and we would all be happy if they were picked off waivers of the remaining young prospects who can be sent down without waivers.. hughes has the least seniority it's a paper move anyway .. as he can be recalled in 1 day when roussel is placed on ltir it's safer to do it this way rather then risk losing someone else on waivers i kinda want to keep everyone else right now (they have value)
  18. did i read this correctly? lions sacked 5x in the first half well that does explain the score
  19. well it does seem like the ducks might be a bit bleak this season so some quality music in the locker room might help keep the morale up a bit
  20. not so sure jake is looking a little bit redundant right now
  21. hard to believe but one of our locals is on one jake ... 2 year @ 1.25 million per everyone focuses on the players not getting these deals though
  22. this is the cutting edge of fake news / fake reality clearly could be extremely dangerous in the wrong hands thank god the leaders of the world will ensure the public interests are looked after good to know the leader of the free world is at the forefront in monitoring these developments or it has potential to impact the validity of elections, how competing political opponents might be perceived, and who knows how else this technology might be used personal integrity displayed by key global leaders provide all the comfort we desire things are looking up hard to not be optimistic
  23. well looking at this all in print i'd agree with you but let's see what sort of chemistry pairings actually have on the ice surprises can occur how many people would have thought hughes and schenn would have been a good pairing that would not have been at the top of my list but it worked out pretty well for a few games
