  1. well good ol bert's biggest issue was what actually was or was not between his ears similar to virt so i think they compare pretty well
  2. you are entirely premature in your assessment on virt bertuzzi is a classic example of why a power forward that took some time to develop and he clearly was a top 6 when he hit is stride virt is 20 and immature for god's sake he'll grow up a bit more .. everyone does i know i did
  3. he is a power forward people they traditionally take a bit longer to develop look at bertuzzi's early career he was even traded before he hit his stride let's give virt at least till the end of next season to really assess his development i will be very disappointed if he is recalled to the canucks this season make him try to make the team next preseason if he cannot, then he'll need 1 more season in utica
  4. that has always been my view and position he turned down the best offer.. which was from the jays his agent completely misread the market
  5. i find the ongoing dislike/hate for jays management over the top they did a good job in their first year..and either were lucky or showed they know more about baseball than us i'm gonna assume the later assessment and assume they have matters well in hand this off season as well how can anyone really complain about what they did in the previous off season after we saw the results in 2016
  6. overall, the caps draft record historically has been average to below average their international signings have mostly been good.. with the qualifier.. good for the 1st year it's strange that the quality players signed have produced for 1 year and then seem to fall off more than a bit i think the caps have to focus on developing a midfield engine something tough, reliable, and less flashy.. . morales was talented.. just way too uneven . and lacked toughness and then at least one elite striker if those things are in place. .the d is good overall.. as is our goal situation i think the caps have the chance to become more established and less of a hot and cold team it is not promising to have a team that has one good year and then a bad year from the same core that means the core is not really that good
  7. well i kind of think that the blue jay organization would not trade young exceptionally talented players.. and pitchers... who are paid millions because they have a bit of a spat that makes it's way on twitter i kinda think they'd just talk to them first and tell them both to just grow up a bit and keep their drama a bit more private
  8. well it's not quite that clear cut to say miller makes the decisions but he is the #1 goalie and as was the case with luongo when he was #1 he was consulted about all starts and had a lot of say about which games he played in (well until torts anyway) that is fairly typical of nhl teams if they have a clear cut veteran #1 goalie so miller is consulted and does have a lot of say about his starts and schedule
  9. well i think the main reason why i 1 year deal was done is because jb wants to keep open his option to become a free agent again next off season without other teams having to worry about the 1st round compensation pick of course, he will need to have a very solid season in 2017 to earn more than his current contract but i think he is still eying the chance at a 3 to 5 year deal at better dollars
  10. hey i totally agree but i think a touch of reality has to be injected into this whole jb assessment he is breaking down, very slowly maybe, but his injuries indicate that i think jb is in a bit of denial about this and thinks he can manage father time and the aging process i think we will see this year a slight further decline in his defense (his arm is already quite diminished, his legs are now starting to go) but he is a true competitor and i have a lot of confidence in his bat and offense still
  11. he is born in florida not really safe to assume that he wants to remain in canada
  12. well you are assuming josh donaldson will be staying he is only under blue jay control for 1 more year after this year so the window is likely just 2 years if he keeps up his play, donaldson will be receiving a rather massive contract when he is an ufa
  13. you know if it is true other jays backed his return that tells me a lot more about his influence in the clubhouse and makes him a bit more valuable to the team but seriously he is a jay .. and really needed to come back to the team problem was he shot his mouth off pretty badly last preseason with his contract demands and now has to eat crow a bit to return so if he can do that . great and what counts most is his team mates want him back and obviously respect him so this is likely a win win for the jays and jb edit: if he does return, i'll be sure to watch his 1st at home at bat, he is gonna get a lengthy standing o... crowd is gonna be seriously welcoming him back
  14. i kinda figured that much but that is not really a 1st round then they just call it that cuz the teams get their 1st round picks then there is a round of supplemental and other picks by the time the second round comes to the table it is actually drafting 3rd round talent
  15. how did jd at 48 make it as a 1st rounder ??? was a longish 1st round that year? i'd take him 1st overall in the 1st round myself but hindsight is 20 / 20
  16. ops is better but batting average is terrible strike out rate is very high cannot steal a base low run production all in all a below average offensive producer an average defender and paid way more than barney .. is less versatile and is also going to platoon and hence is a utility player as well . but can only dh or play 1st base
  17. um why look at ladd he was never part of this organization review bertuzzi's history . he is a power forward as well and was traded before he hit his stride it is a fairly common suggestion that dmen take longer to develop power forwards take longer to develop and goalies take even longer to develop so what describes virt best? mmmmmm? so give him time patience people
  18. but feel free to bash smoak all day i have no idea why he was resigned i have no idea why he was resigned to THAT contract he is so overpaid by the jays
  19. that was my only criticism i had of your post (your use of that word) but you got stubborn on me and i could have done this dance much longer bleacher report has pillar ranked as the 15th best major league outfielder and they use offense for about 70% of their rating so at worst pillar is average in the view of others as well and if you give more weight to his defence he is closing in on being an outstanding and an elite center fielder but we were only talking offense. at bats and i had not even started on doing research on barney to support my view of him so you saved me doing that . thanks i do read and appreciate most of your posts
  20. pillar had a batting average of .266 (as a cf ranked 8th in mlb for batting average, 12th for rbi, 18th for runs scored, 26th for home runs) barney had a batting average of .269 atrocious .... clearly
  21. so your definition of atrocious then is below average? a bit of an extreme term to use on either pillar or barney unfair in my view
  22. i consider an at bat to include base running and run production pillar is not bad overall he does an average job of helping the offense and he has average at bats if you do not just use quality at bat as the definition but i do agree he is not a good hitter
  23. i find your posts to be mostly balanced and reasonably well thought out so how do you reach your conclusion that both barney and pillar are atrocious with a bat i do not see that at all and disagree at worst they are average i think pillar still has some upside i'm curious to see how you explain your view of these 2
