Oilers clinch playoff spot for first time in 5 years
Oiler Nation rejoices as they embrace the team's long awaited return to the playoffs
The Edmonton Oilers have officially clinched their first playoff spot since the 2005-06 season, 5 years ago. This is the Oilers first playoff appearance since the heartbreaking Game 7 of the 2006 Stanley Cup Finals. The team has since gone through a rebuild, with only 4 players still remaining from that Cup Final roster: captain Ales Hemsky, Jarret Stoll, Raffi Torres, Fernando Pisani. With two games remaining, the Oilers are holding onto the 7th seed and are likely in the first round to face either the division rival Minnesota Wild or recent two-time Cup champion San Jose Sharks.
