  15. 2020 DRAFT TIDBITS PART 5 "THE I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO CALL THIS" EDITION Elshad Karakulov (C) Known as the "Kraziest Kazakh", Karakulov is a Kazakh defensive centerman currently playing for Barys in the KHL. Through 54 games, Karakulov has a modest 14 points, however offense is not what Karakulov will make a name for himself for. Karakulov plays an extremely strong defensive game, as evidenced by his over 3 minutes of PK ice time per game. The 6'4 229 lbs forward is one mean motherf*cker. Tomas Grajciar (LD) Grajciar is a playmaking offensive defenceman who has appeared in 4 games in the Slovak top league. In these 4 games, Grajciar has had no problems producing, as he has 4 points in 4 games. The remainder of this season has been played in the Slovak junior league, where Grajciar has torn it up scoring 22 times and adding 32 assists in 28 games. It is likely that Grajciar heads off to the OHL next season to play for Sault Ste. Marie. Niko Piiroinen (RD) Piiroinen is a Finnish defenceman who is also likely to head to the CHL next season, after being drafted 4th overall by Val d'Or last year. The offensive defenceman has played primarily in the Finnish J20 league, putting up 17 goals and 45 points in 28 games. Although a bit undersized at 5'10, Piiroinen possesses all the top skills to run a powerplay at higher levels. Keaton Beckman (C) Playing in his freshman season for Ferris State in the NCAA, Beckman is a player that SCREAMS intangibles. He is a two-way forward that knows how to play at both ends of the rink, and his character is one that can be matched by no others. Beckman has also lit it up this season, putting up 43 points in 31 games. A bit unheralded growing up, there is no doubt that scouts know who Beckman is now. Darrell Pousset (RW) A playmaking winger playing for Acadie-Bathurst in the QMJHL, Pousset has already surpassed his point totals from last season, putting up 62 points in 53 games thus far. Forming a pretty dynamic duo with fellow draft eligible Glenn Cain, the duo has completely torn apart the QMJHL this year. For Pousset to succeed, he'll have to learn how to play more physical and not shy away from hits. I guess you could say he plays like a pussy right now.

  25. 2020 DRAFT TIDBITS PART 4 "RISERS" EDITION Beau Polster (C/RW) Polster went from being unranked in September, to climbing all the way up to 17th in the Mid-Term Rankings. Currently playing for the Anaheim Jr. Ducks, Polster is a 6'1 finesse forward who has 23 points in 19 games this season. Polster is gaining both NHL and College interest, and it is expected that he will announce a college commitment soon. Even though he is playing in a midget league, some scouts think he may be quicker to reach the NHL than others. Evgeny Pimenov (RW) A big 6'3 202 lbs Russian, Pimenov was drafted 4th overall in the CHL Import Draft and is currently in his rookie season with the Guelph Storm. Through 49 games, Pimenov has a respectable 18 goals and 29 points, while sporting a 7.41 AVR. Primarily playing on a line with Lightning prospect Tag Bertuzzi, Pimenov has risen 11 spots in the mid-term rankings. Greg Hancock (RW/C) Hancock has impressed scouts this season with his two-way game, jumping up 46 spots in the mid-term rankings. Playing for Ottawa in the OHL, Hancock has 27 points in 47 games while playing a top 6 and PK role for the 67s. In previous seasons, Hancock was able to produce around a point per game but was a liability defensively, and it looks like this season he is showing that he has both offensive and defensive potential. Alex Mbb (LW/C) Playing for Prince Albert in the WHL, Mbb has 29 goals and 55 points in 49 games so far this season. Mbb has risen 18 spots in the rankings, and this can also be attributed to his 7.82 AVR. Mbb's strong season is coming off the back of a 72 point season last year, and the sniper is one of the bright spots on a weak Raiders team. Matt Choupani (C) Choupani may be one of the highest risk, but highest reward type players in this draft. In his rookie season with Shawinigan in the QMJHL, Choupani has 57 points in 50 games and has a 7.52 AVR. Scouts have taken notice, and Choupani has risen 13 spots in the rankings. What is the risk? Choupani is 5'9 and weighs in at a whopping 152 lbs.
