  8. 2020 DRAFT TIDBITS "THE PROJECTED TOP 5" EDITION The 2020 Draft projects to be a pretty deep draft at the top end, there could be as many as 5 franchise players, however where will they end up being ranked? Will teams continue to get later steals? Alexis Lafreniere (LW/RW) The projected 1st overall pick is having a year so far in the QMJHL, putting up 8 goals and 25 points in 17 games to date. Lafreniere also has a 7.94 AVR thus far, and the forward projects as a playmaking winger who can also put the puck in the net. Lafreniere went stride for stride with 1st overall pick Brenden Marcoux in the QMJHL last year, it is expected he could have a similar NHL impact as well. Mikhail Skokov (RW) The Russian may be the most talented player in this draft, but concerns overseas may see him falling in the draft lower than he should. Skokov is a 6'3 playmaking RW that shoots left and is a later birthday in this draft. In what is technically is 18 year old season, Skokov has spent the entire year with Lokomotiv in the KHL, playing a top 6 role and putting up 11 points in 26 games so far. His contract is up at the end of this season, but there are rumours that he will be signing another deal in Russia. Tristan Deschamps (G) The only thing that could stop a skater from going 1st overall this year would be a team that is in desperate need of shoring up their goaltending. Deschamps projects as an elite or maybe franchise goaltender that is already closer to the NHL than other top G prospects such as Lukas Dostal or Alexandr Puigin. Only in his first OHL season, Deschamps has immediately seized the starters role and has put up a 11-4-1 record on a team with only 1 NHL prospect. Although his sv% is decently low, he is not playing on a talented team at all. Dalibor Mlinar (RD/LD) Mlinar is a Slovenian offensive defenceman who has shot up the draft boards over the summer, especially after his 13 points in 7 games start to the season. Playing for a J20 team in the Slovenian league, Mlinar has put up an 8.29 avr so far. It is rumoured that Mlinar may be one of the most complete defenceman to enter the draft in recent years, and it is 100% expected that Mlinar can make the jump from a Slovenian junior league to the NHL next season. Dylan Magee (C) The top ranked center in the preliminary rankings, Magee is off to a quick start for Kootenay in the WHL putting up 6 goals and 18 points in 15 games to date. The finesse center has also put up a 7.87 avr to start the year, and looks ready to smash his previous seasons totals of 61 points in 66 games last year. Magee is the best player on a team with no NHL draft picks, and that is shown by him playing in all situations, and getting over a whopping 20 minutes of icetime per game.
