2018 DRAFT TIDBITS PART 4 "The Defenceman" Edition Ty Smith (LD) The former 1st overall pick in the WHL draft moved up 3 spots, from 14th to 11th in the Midterm Rankings. The playmaking offensive defenceman isn't quite putting up the same numbers as he did last year (62 points in 72 games), but his numbers this year of 31 points in 50 games is still respectable. Rasmus Sandin (LD) Sandin has risen from 29th in the Preliminary Rankings, to 15th in the Midterm Rankings. The two-way defenceman has made his pro debut for Brynas this season, appearing in 17 games and producing 3 assists. In the J20 league, Sandin has 16 appearances and 9 points. Maxim Sharanov (LD/RD) The Russian Offensive Defenceman has dominated in the KHL as a 17 year old, as he is currently 5th in league wide rookie scoring (and the top defenceman). Sharonov has 23 points in 51 games, while playing 19 min a game in a league that many deem the best outside the NHL. Sharonov is currently ranked in the top 10, however he is signed in Russia until 2020 which may see his draft stock fall. Evan Bouchard (RD) Bouchard is a burly defensive defenceman who is currently 2nd in the OHL in takeaways with 62 in 49 games. He has also shown an offensive side to his game, currently producing at a 0.5 PPG clip. It is expected that Bouchard will push to be a lottery pick, however his lack of NHL offensive upside could see his stock fall. Stuart Robertson (LD) One of the many top prospects playing for the Las Vegas Storm U18 team, Robertson may be the most polarizing prospect that could be selected in the top 10. With 32 points in 31 games, Robertson is a high octane offensive defenceman that has elite potential. The problem? Robertson is a small 5'9, and is future for next season is still unknown. How high will someone value Robertson's potential and take a high risk high reward pick?

TRADE DEADLINE PLAN: Trade deadline is Feb. 22 in game, the last NHL games occur on Feb. 10 as there are Olympics this year. The trade deadline will be Wednesday July 8th at 9:00 PM PST. We will have simmed up to the trade deadline before this period, it is possible that we will be there by tomorrow night or Wednesday morning. I am away from Thursday to Friday afternoon, so there will be a period of time following the trade deadline (will try and do a few sim sets Wednesday night after the deadline) where there will be no sims prior to the playoffs.

2018 DRAFT TIDBITS 3.0 "LIGHTING IT UP" EDITION Mike Booth (LW) The long lost cousin of David has been tearing apart the NAHL this season, with 56 points in 32 games. Booth is a playmaking forward who has started to garner serious NHL and NCAA interest, and it is expected that he should be able to make the jump to college next season. Aundrae McAllister (RD/LD) McAllister is an offensive defenceman currently playing in the OJHL ranks. This season, he has produced 21 goals and 49 points in 32 games as a defenceman. Although the level of competition is slightly worse, 3rd overall pick Cale Makar put up 74 points in 60 games as a defenceman in the AJHL in his draft year. McAllister's collegiate future is still unknown as the entry draft nears. Benoit-Olivier Groulx (C/LW) Playing in all situations for Halifax this season, Groulx has emerged as the teams star player with 19 goals and 47 points in 38 games thus far. The powerforward who was the #1 pick in the 2016 QMJHL Draft has an excellent physical side to his game, but is still very raw when it turns to pure offensive skills. Remi Jirta (C) Remi and his boyz in Niagara are off to a fast start, with Jirta having produced 40 points in 37 games thus far in the OHL. The finesse forward is a high skilled player who tore apart the OJHL last season and has jumped to the OHL without looking back at all. Philipp Kurashev (LW/RW) The Swiss born sniper has been playing on a line with undrafted prospect Derek Gentile this season with Quebec in the QMJHL, and the two have been a duo to be reckoned with. Kurashev's 40 points in 35 games has garnered interest from KHL and SHL teams, as it looks like Kurashev may further his development overseas next season.
