  4. 2018 DRAFT TIDBITS PART 2 "Remember Us?" Edition Rasmus Dahlin (LD/RD) The current projected #1 pick has torn up the Swedish J20 league this season, posting 22 points in 13 games and rocking an 8.85 AVR. It remains to be seen if Dahlin will get a shot with Frolunda in the SHL this season, but Dahlin has set his eyes on signing and playing in the NHL next season. Scouts believe that Dahlin has franchise player potential. Andrei Svechnikov (RW/LW) The 6'2 powerforward is playing for Muskegon in the USHL and is currently leading the league in scoring with 35 points in 21 games. Svechnikov is the #3 ranked prospect in the preliminary rankings, and has garnered interest from NCAA and KHL teams for next season. However, these plans may go aside as some scouts believe that Svechnikov will be able to make the big jump from the USHL to the NHL next year. Joe Veleno (C) Veleno is the #2 ranked prospect as things stand now, and the playmaker is currently top 5 in QMJHL scoring with 34 points in 27 games. Although his scoring numbers are off of last year's 93 points in 63 games, Veleno has shown great strides in his defensive game this season and is a more complete player overall. Brady Tkachuk (C) Brady Tkachuk is a playmaking center currently in his freshman season at Boston University. Through 12 games this season, Tkachuk has 10 points although him and fellow draft eligible Oliver Wahlstrom have seemingly rotated spots in the lineup with a deep Terrier forward group. Quinn Hughes (LD) Add Quinn Hughes to the growing list of players that struggle to get icetime as freshman in College. Playing for Notre Dame, Hughes has only appeared in 5 games this season, scoring 1 goal. Despite his lack of playing time and slim stature, it is expected that Hughes will be a high pick in the first round in the upcoming draft.

  13. 2018 DRAFT TIDBITS 1.0 "INTO THE UNKNOWN...." EDITION Lailo Chukro (C) The #4 ranked prospect in the 2018 Preliminary Rankings has secured a full time role with Malmo in the SHL as a 17 year old. What has he done since then? How about 16 points in 20 games, playing as the team's 1st line center while on PP1 and PK1. Chukro has been compared stylistically to Sidney Crosby based on his build (5'11 200 lbs), but scouts aren't quite sure if he has the top potential that Crosby does. Fredrik Moller (LD) Another Swede, this time a defenseman, checks in at #5 on the Preliminary Rankings. Moller has recently debuted for Brynas in the SHL after a strong start in the J20 league. In 6 games, Moller has 1 assist and has averaged 17 minutes of icetime. Moller is a playmaking offensive defenceman who has quickly risen the ranks, and is now expected to challenge projected #1 pick Rasmus Dahlin for best Swedish defenceman (and any defenceman for that matter) in the draft. Juan Pablo Reyes (G) A Mexican prodigy, Reyes has accelerated his schooling and is currently attending the University of Michigan. As a 17 year old, he has solidified himself as the teams starter, playing in 7 out of the 8 games. Dubbed the "Mexican Wall", like most goalies Reyes is still very raw. His stats in college right now may not be pretty, but he is definitely playing against competition that will make him better in the future. Reyes is currently ranked 22nd on the Preliminary Rankings. Sarunas Dambrauskas (RW) Recruited from Lithuania, Dambrauskas was scooped up by HC Davos and is currently playing for their Junior affiliate. Through 8 games, Dambrauskas has 1 goal and 8 assists for 9 points. Dambrauskas was also selected in the CHL Import Draft last year, and may look to play there should he not get a pro opportunity this season. Currently ranked 33rd, it is expected that the Lithuanian will rise into the top 30, as he was a relative unknown to scouts heading into his draft year. Karim Frikeche (C) Hailing from Morocco, Frikeche is a 6'4 powerforward who has decided to strap on hockey skates for the first time in his career. Frikeche has isolated himself in Wisconsin, where he can only focus on hockey and is currently playing for the Madison Capitals Midget Team, having produced 10 points in 10 games thus far. Like Dambrauskas, scouts don't know what to think of Frikeche just yet, he is currently ranked 56th for the upcoming draft however many scouts believe his raw potential will make a team gamble on him in the 1st round this June.
