  1. Significantly different circumstances 10 years ago. I liked the open emotion and hunger he showed. We have tried the passive, calm approach. Perhaps it is time to try some anger and frustration?
  2. I get the strategy of platitudes but too often this team doesn't talk a good game, nor do they play one. Again I refer to Toewes in 2011 where his calling out his team and refusing to accept losing turned a series around and almost ended our run. Passive, cerebral comments sound nice but passion and emotion do more to drive performance. After all.the mental, lazy mistakes this team has been making and how many games they have last, they should be angry and motivated to paynthe price to win at any cost. Sorry, but I don't hear it in their words and I don't see it on the ice.
  3. They sound very Sedin-like in their approach. Would rather see a Jonathan toewes responsE. The difference is between a mindset that seems to accept losing and one that refuses to accept it.
  4. We will see. Not sure who we have that would step-up and challenge Fartbot but I have a weird gut feeling it could be Sutter of all people. He is a quiet leader and was first into the fray the other night. Would live to see Bo send a message but don't expect it.
  5. Apparently they need the first goal every night. If scored on first they may as well forfeit.
  6. You are correct the refs will react swiftly to punish any canuck that goes after forbort. You are dreaming if you think the league will take any action to correct or discipline their incompetence.
  7. Easy to see the new hockey fans that think that was brawl. Back in the old days that kind of "gathering" took place after every whistle. Haha. Brawls meant fights and lots of them and often, the players on the bench -and the goalies- joined in. Real animosity and if you pulled the crap fartbart did on Hogs, you knew someone was coming for you to exact revenge. The new nhl is more like dancing with the stars than old time hockey.
  8. Bad is an understatement. They have lost all 11 games where they were scored on first. That is abysmal and speaks to a confidence/mentality issue.
  9. Sure but there was no doubt the puck went in the net. The refs reviewed to determine it was a good goal. They determined it was. Then the leafs challenged for interference and the league overruled the refs. The puck was loose and the montreal player poked at it. That apparently is a good goal but not if it's against Toronto. Like I said, even the leaf announcers were confused by the outcome.
  10. Virtanen is not a fighter, that is obvious. He is barely a physical player.
  11. Anyone watching the leafs, canadians ca nwitness the leagues game management first hand. Even the leaf announcers are confused by the league's office dual decisions on a called back goal. Bloody ridiculous.
  12. Agreed Deb. It is the "subjective application" i referred to. Some bad actors (Marchand, Tkachuk etc) are known cheap shot artists but the league gives them room to do their thing because it is entertaining while a guy like Roussel is policed so that if he glares at another player he is penalized while others are free to abuse him with impunity. It is all a out game management instead if consistent application of the rules. The NHL refereeing standard is embarrassing and is also reflected.in their enforcement if discipline through the DPOS. For me, the league took a major downturn when Bettman and company decided to turn it into a circus to entertain non hockey markets in the USA. The integrity of the game was lost and has never really returned.
  13. Oh come on. Hoglander gets grabbed from behind by a guy twice his size who starts swinging and your advice is that he should have turned around and engaged? Are t you a tough guy behind your keyboard. There is no conspiracy against the Canucks by the refs. The issue with the nhl is the same as it has been for decades, they manage games for entertainment and change the application of the rules depending on the circumstances. A penalty early in the game is not called near the end in a tight game. Playoffs are unrecognizable from regular season. The subjectivity of the rules application reflects badly on the league as it places entertainment ahead of professionalism. Fan frustration is understandable and justified.
  14. I think the problem is deeper than having a tough guy. Seems this team has always taken the approach that having a tough guy on the roster, means you aren't soft. Problem is, team toughness means everyone has to have the same attitude and stand up for themselves and their teammates. You need an attitude that any transgression against one of your guys needs to be addressed aggressively. You can't wait for a opportunity for your tough guy to retaliate. Players who play on a team with that pack mentality, play with more freedom and aggression knowing the team has their back. If I'm petey, hoglander etc. I'm eventually gonna tone down my play so I don't get abused because I am on my own.
  15. He is obviously frustrated with how things are going with this team. Understandable when your teammates are playing a soft, "acceptable" game most nights. Look like a bunch of individuals pretending to be a team.
  16. A culture that likes to win but doesn't hate to lose. They are willing to accept loss if they play okay. Never be a consistent winner with that attitude.
  17. According to Pearson, the assault on hoglander is no biggy and that happens all the time. The culture on this team is embarrassing. A rookies who has been one of their best players is one of the only players with the balls to throw a real hit and when he gets assaulted over it, his teammates just shrug it off. Perhaps that explains why so many promising young players seem to plateau early on this team. Why bust your ass and expose yourself for teammates that won't have your back.
  18. And target forbert. Team needs to send a message when a guy mugs one of their rookies like that.
  19. He seems to be struggling to adapt to the attention he gets. He looks to have regressed quite significantly. Right now, plays die on his stick.
  20. Something is wrong with their mindset. They like to win but they don't seem to hate losing. Lack motivation
