  1. https://www.nhl.com/news/wayne-gretzky-remembers-hall-of-famer-dale-hawerchuk/c-318611066 Sad > sharp enough he can have fun with Gretz the day before he passed. Too much life left. I love in this article that Dale developed a love for teaching kids. Jim Nill spoke of him being humble; '' There are not a lot of times you'll see star players go back and coach a junior team."
  2. I do believe in extending wishes! Its winter where I live. I closed my eyes and felt the suns warmth on my eyelids. I believe people can feel that warmth when they hopefully know others are thinking of them? I wish Dale the absolute best!
  3. Some promise in the near future? 1st signs of what we hoped for. When we traded for Sam 4 years ago. https://www.nhl.com/news/calgary-flames-forward-sam-bennett-thriving-in-postseason/c-318567034
  4. err, Welcome @Paul Vanderhoek U resemble Randy Bachman...
  5. A baby Vanderhoek? I'm motivated & inspired by your story. And your thoughts for Wilb! Welcome.
  6. Bless your sister Hairy. I hope u will enjoy sharing some great thoughts thinking about her. Hockey & otherwise! And a tear in your beer is ok...
  7. Burr might make a dent. For the moment the motor growls for CT huh @debluvscanucks ?
  8. When we traded for TT. It was pre-Covid blow up. A raise of $3 to $5 mill in cap was rumoured. We would have had some cap management to do. ie move Baer or Eriksson or both. But signing Tanev & Tovoli & Markstrom was within the realm of possibility to keep the team together. It is a different equation now. Harder. Trading Boeser was just never a solution I would nominate.
  9. If I were Shaquille O'Neil? I would call dangerous Dan the Big Fundamental! At both ends of the ice. Fluid & functional. Congratulations Dan & thanks for your time as a Canuck! We love that you came home for us...
  10. This is a hell of an interesting trade. I like Dach better personally at this point. But I am not confident at all in which player, or team (Chic / NYR ) will be better. All are on their way up IMO. Good on you guys for this deal!
  11. As a competitor thanks and congratulations on the Vegas play in victory @Nail As an exec, thanks even more, @Monty also, for the year! I always want to express my appreciation for what you guys do running the league. Next stop draft!
  12. That is fair. He is the spare D. I wonder how Benn felt about leaving his wife and baby? To quarantine for 2 weeks to enter the bubble. To arrive where he was not playing anyway? Has Benn re joined the team? I also agree with another of your points. It would be very interesting to see if OJ could steal time from Jordie if he were here.
  13. This is a classic easy out line. And only has a small component of truth to it. Corporate spending includes cor[orate boxes, tickets. The overwhelming component is advertising. Who is the potential market, how do I reach them? Corporates do not choose favorite teams, for the most part. They choose where they get a return for their advertising dollar. Its true they can reach some mad fans bleeding Habs adverts across Quebec. But like your point about the NHL expanding their market? Here in Vancouver we get overexposed to Toronto media. Their love affair with the Leafs. How many CDC comments a day is there blathering ad hoc about Toronto Satin Nation? Do people watch it because its hockey? Some, but not enough. I have no interest where Austin Matthews buys his Lexus. Most tune out till its their team & their market. TSN would almost be irrelevant here without a team. Hockey as a whole. We barely watch Canucks when they are losing? Arthur Griffiths would still own the team! TSN still have to set up local coverage. Local content. Executives do not advertise, spend the same money, where it gets no return. If a team creates opportunity? They will investigate it. Buffalo & Seattle are 50% closer to NHL markets than QC to Montreal. I have no doubt having Seattle in the NHL will bring revenue to the Canucks, Vancouver as a whole. Increased traffic at the Peace Arch? Than if that market lay dormant! There are Sabres fans who travel to Toronto that otherwise have ZERO interest in Canada. I believe QC creates opportunity for Montreal. The only question is can they generate enough support as a whole. Quebec will get a team if and when it can demonstrate that they can generate the necessary revenue. Territory will have nothing to do with it.
  14. Jesus Priest? Coming from Nail I thought this was a CDCFL call in. And I thought (I did) get my arse whooped in the play in there. By, yes you Nail... Take your congrats here. WTF I was sayin to myself a cpl of Kracken into the evening here. But yeah. I was noot very happy with the Play In PUCK either. Evil genius @inane had Ben Chiarot, literally & figuratively knock out new recruit Sydney Crosby. Here & in real life. So I lost Sydney & any Eastern play off seeding. Which we spent 3 years trying to win. If anyone felt sorry for me over that? I doubt there was much sympathy for us losing William Nylander! Tyson Barrie... Before play in, on normal seeding I was looking at as many as 24 players 1st round. No Play In did not treat us well. Oh well? This is what I got (left); David Perron David Krejci TJ Oshie Joonas Donskoi Joe Pavelski Alex Radulov Jordan Martinook Cedric Paquette Nic Dowd Bit stronger on D Travis Sanheim Alex Pietrangelo Zdeno Chara Ryan McDonough Eric Johnson Kevin Shattenkirk Bowen Byram Oliver Kylington Ben Bishop But absolutely good luck. And to all in the first round. I hope for a good series Nail. And very begrudging congrats to Inane! Joss should offer some lumps to some other teams as well. Really, and we should be more gracious. Thankful we can play on!
  15. Florida got their nose bloodied pretty good in expansion last go? That and their goalie. Otherwise my observation is Tallon navigated pretty good with ultiple restrictions, multiple owners. Its them he has to please? Not the fans!
  16. Montreal is only behind Toronto, Detroit & NYR. In franchise value? It may be debatable whether Quebec has the market size to make it? That is a different question. The Hab's, their fans & grass roots support is iconic in all of sport. Who show up in every arena, every market louder than your fans. Transcending hockey. I saw Boy George walking in the streets of Melbourne once? Wearing the bleu, blanc et rouge & its crest in its glory as a fashion statement with matching red hat. Man U, the Yankees, Cowboys, Celtics. Among the top 3 or 5 sporting franchises in the world!
  17. I love Chris Isaac. Been to a couple of shows the last ten years. Great singer, works the crowd to get them in to it! I was in university when this came out. Its not THAT old. I had an observation his last show. His music seems to transcend older generations? The last one, about 4 years ago. He had to work harder to get the crowd in to it? It was PACKED with the crooner crowd. And he does have that voice, songs in that style... I swear the number of walkers, and canes. Slicked back, platinum, grey creased tan heads. Ladies with pull up stockings, a pleated dress & horned rim glasses? ''Hrumping'' to melodies, not standing & dancing. Could not risk putting a hip out of place? I am exaggerating a bit. But it was noticeable. I think it was their last chance to see Elvis? Frank Sinatra was doing a cameo!
  18. Me too! Loved seeing Olli getting a game. Even if it was only 6 and a bit minutes. But he played well, connected some crisp passes. That composure & execution with the puck is possibly one of two absolute critical skills to becoming an impact NHL player. The agility / dexterity to close out oncoming NHL forwards being the other. My prediction for Olli comes thru! The circumstance was almost exactly on par with ho it was suggested as well. Our 5th LHD. Next stop a regular line up role, 3rd pair! I bet Olli will be there by the 20 game mark of next season? And he will help us!
