Must of been in the eighties... Saw Rod the bod do twistin & having a party, and more. Did a 5 song tribute & said Sam was his favorite all time artist. I knew cupid. But not Sam. These days I listen to Sam more than Led Zep since i was blooded. Love Sam Cooke! Plus two Daddy! I assume that is Ronny Wood on the guitarÉ

[Report] Canucks to part ways with Judd Bracket
Canuck Surfer replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Canucks Talk
In terms of cost? We paid a fair price in these deals. Maybe / Probably even stole Miller? I did not like either deal at the time they were made. Unlike JD Burke, not because of price paid. The true cost is still yet to be determined. It is not likely we will be able to keep two of Markstrom, Tanev & Toffoli. It does not appear Tofu & Miller elevated us to contender status? We are a better team this year. But, if we don't win this year? Are we going to be a better team next year & the year after? -
Some mitigating factors. Some teams, see Montreal, they want their cake & to eat it as well. They did not date his contract. ie if this season started again, they would use this year? If not, start next year & have him committed for 3 (he may be less due to age?) full years on his ELC. Which started drawing scrutiny. A contract without a date is not complete. I personally believe any draftee that could have been signed & available should be allowed. Draftee's and possibly college UFA's? Euro UFA'[s, if I'm not mistaken have to pass through waivers. So not them, but Kaprizov was drafted. As long as they would have fit in the cap prior to the end of the season. But that brings up more questions. Would we have been able to trade for Toffoli if Ferland was not injured? Should they both be able to play? So I guess some rules have to made up on the fly? Consensus rules & someone does not get a perfect piece of the puzzle.

I personally wish they were not playing. There are tens of thousands of cases out there. Maybe I am a hypocrite? I count myself lucky to be working at the moment. But where I live, the borders are completely closed. My sense is the virus is spreading faster in Canada & notably in the US due to much less stringent protocols.

The eight potential losing teams from the Qualifying Round will be represented in the First Phase of the draft lottery as unassigned picks. The first drawing of the First Phase will set the team selecting No. 1 in the draft, the second drawing will set the team selecting No. 2, and the third drawing will set the team selecting No. 3. If a team not in the bottom seven wins any of the first three drawings, a Second Phase will be conducted among the eight teams eliminated in the Qualifying Round. That would take place between the end of the Qualifying Round and the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

The NHL on Tuesday announced the protocol for the 2020 NHL Draft Lottery, to be held on a date to be determined. The draft lottery will determine the first 15 picks in the 2020 NHL Draft and will include 3-6 drawings over one or two phases. It will include the seven indentified teams that did not qualify for the 2020 Modified Playoff Tournament, plus eight teams that lose in the Qualifying Round. The First Phase of the draft lottery will be held on June 26, prior to the qualifying rounds. It will consist of three drawings and be limited to the seven teams that did not qualify for the postseason.

The tournament will begin with a 16-team, eight-series Qualifying Round and a round-robin competition among the top four teams in each conference to determine seeding for the First Round. Seven teams did not qualify for the playoffs and their season is over: the Buffalo Sabres, New Jersey Devils, Anaheim Ducks, Los Angeles Kings, San Jose Sharks, Ottawa Senators and Detroit Red Wings. Each of them will participate in the NHL Draft Lottery, which will hold its first phase June 26.

To me he showed some improved mastery of puck skills. This included in corners and puck battles. Before he had 3 moves. Rotate the puck almost as soon as he received it? Go wide on the break with speed! Misguided turnover or over handling with his head down... This year he hung on on to the puck. Protected it. Made some simple moves. Discovered an ability to slip in a drop pass while cycling. And kept his head up, realized he could see decisions that were worth making. Suddenly he can see the game and control some plays. Now that he has some vision? Its worth mentioning the growth could be exponential considering his physical skills.

Assuming we can afford Tanev that is? I have argued elsewhere that Tanev should be prioritized above Pearson & Toffoli. Above all our free agents except (maybe) Markstrom. The $1 mill, see Bartkowski, and $2 mill, see Jprdie Benn, D men have not made us a better team,

Sven to Scout in Europe (Proposal)
Canuck Surfer replied to J.I.A.H.N's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
Therein lies the means to trade Baer with value. Retain 50% real dollars & we get a $1.65mill break in cap, versus $2.3 if he was buried. Which is worth mentioning. That would be $1.2 mill real cost for a team that takes Sven on. Good value! Worth a mid round pick for an absolute top AHL performer, with NHL speed at worst. Ottawa, NYR, Wash, teams in opposite directions could use some skilled depth at low cost. Even Edmonton has found it hard to get wingers to keep up with their elite pivots. -
Good to see everyone alive & excited about hockey! Including @Art Vandelay

Its not my money? But I would rather buy him out. Than pay in prospects to have some one take on his contract. My own personal view. We're more likely to see Sven back? Than Pearson or Toffoli. Its not ideal. But you have to honor contracts; Eriksson, Baer, Roussel, Ferland, Beagle, hell add Virtanen. Because he will get a raise? I see Pearson & Toffoli even not being re-signed as more likely than buying out Baer. At some point we were always going to have too many bodies! We gambled. And lost, that the cap would keep going up?
