[Proposal] You Won't Believe It... but...
Canuck Surfer replied to HKSR's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
Ur on dope. Blackwood has 15 wins in front of a crappy team defensively. Most among rookies if Im not mistaken? NJ is not trading a first for a goalie. Demko is 4th to 7th among young NHL goalies. Carter Hart, Delta's Tristan Jarry, Ilya Samsonov, Igor Shestyorkin, Elvis Merzlikens, Blackwood then, maybe then Demko. Merzlikens & Jarry have awesome save % & GAA. -

He would seem ripe for an offer sheet! At the 20 plus goals he is headed for, 45 or more points? Even a bridge deal is $3 mill plus. One of those $4.5 mill x 5 type deals we see a lot of American teams sign young players to, is on call? Someone could offer $6 mill. The compensation would be a 1st & 3rd. Jake now, is worth more than that. $6 mill would hamstring us for at least one year? That said! He probably undersigned his value last contract. Hockey & otherwise? Jake breaking out is a good problem. Maybe we can't sign another UFA is the more likely cost. But with Jake playing like he is. We do not have to sign more UFA's up front! He seems to know now. What to do when he flies into open space. With and without the puck. Its so fun watching him discover he can make plays! Further, we still have Ferland to unleash. OMFW, this is so funny Alf! Without being about sacrificial cats. The good news! Carrots takes almost more calories to chew than they provide... Lets think grey hound breaking out? Old Jake; New Jake.

I met Matthew about ten years back. Him and Dave matthews (and Jessica Simpson, LOL). In an autograph line. Seen him play several times, oiften a lead act at festivals. Man, he was happy & loved to chat. Had a laugh at his buddies famous girlfriend. Maybe they lack some of the hits. One of the tightest & cleanest bands I have ever seen! Doobie B;s also stand out. Really enjoy Matthew Good!

Jake, in spite of being hard to knock off the pucl, and in spite of decent Corsi numbers? Was not actuially all that great in possession. He simply shot the puck a lot. He is so much better this year though! I never believed I would be seeing him handling the puck at the point on the PP. He;s making drop passes, both rotating and moving with the puck this year on the cycle. Spending time in front of the net, not just fly by's. We did not see much of that in the past. Added to the open ice puck carrying he was always ok at. So improved...

Edmonton all star break report; The executive summary? We sit improved, but outside our goal of being a play off team. And in a fantasy perspective, not so close to competing in GML that we anticipate being buyers this deadline to get there. Our forward crew need a significant boost! What will we do at the deadline? Well? An eval of where we are at says we really accomplished a goal of improving our defence. We paid a lot, but have great play from Matt Niskanen, who plays with vet Oskar Klefbom. They have been great, anchor our team! Vet Ian Cole has been equally solid playing with phoenom Rasmus Dahlin. There is also still Alex Romanoff plus some solid B level prospects close to joining our team. We won't intentionally dismantle our D. But will listen to offers on veteran D. At forward we have been pleased to ice a legitimate line up. But really, behind Patrick Kane, no one has stepped forward. Thats not completely true? Nick Paul, Curtis Lazaar & Rasmus Asplund all have made our line up. Those are not high output guys though. Henrik Borgstrom & Lias Andresson, expected to play in our middle 6 have proven they need more AHL tim. And we did not land any vets UFA to help cushion whether they made it or not. Our forward crew has been a fantasy dissapointment, the source of our sitting outside thee play off's. We have dynamic prospects in Grig Denisenko & Alex Turcotte, A level prospect Nolan Foote, B prospects Tyler Benson & others. We'll have to play the patient game. We could make a hockey trade, a D for a roster young forward? In goal the worlds #1 prospect, Igor Shestyorkin has made his debut. We also have young goalie Alex Georgiev. And prospect Marcus Hogberg has been starting a lot of games in NHL ottawa. A backup goalie is available. Corey Crwaford is still with us, we could send him to a contending team that might use some extra reg season points tto posture for the post season. Who knows, Corey a rental may land with a contending team? But we will retain and accept a 4th round pick @da.moose if we can get Corey to a contending team. Georgiev & Hogberg could both be sttarters next year, and we will ensure neither are buried. Happy All Star break!

Ferlunds NMC is this year & next only. i believe expires just before expansion. CLAUSE DETAILS: 2021-22: Player submits a 10 team no trade list; 2022-23: Player submits a 8 team no trade list Yeah, if the decision was right now, we select Miller hands down. But lots can happen between now & then. He'll be 28, and age will mean considering who we do, and do not protect.
-
Will protect; Brock Boeser, Elias Pettersson, Jake Virtanen, Bo Horvat, Gaudette No D honestly? A goalie May protect; JT Miller, Michael Ferlund, Antoine Roussel, Tyler Motte ** Tryamkin, Myers, Stecher, Tanev Demko, Markstrom As we can only protect forwards. I actually believe Seatlle would select whomever would be available among Roussel, Ferland and Miller. As of right now, Miller would be the guy we protect. We can protect 3 of 4 of the defenceman above. If Tanev is gone, a likely scenario, all of them. Then expose Brisbois, Sauyner. Just have to get their NHL games up to the minimum next season. I project Ferlund is the guy tabbed from the Canucks? I agree with @Rob_Zepp Pittsburgh & NYR's are most likely targets for Seattles goalies? Washington a no brainer if they re=sign Holtby/ I personally believe we will protect Demko, sign but expose Markstrom. And that there will be better options than Markstrom at $6ish mill. I like Marky. Think he is a legit starter. But 0.916 this year, 0.915% average the combined last 4 years is hardly the best goaltending in the league. But if 31 year old Markstrom is the guy taken? I wont lose any sleep!

Edmonton ASSIGNS G Igor Shesterkin / Shestyorkin Edmonton RECALLS D Alexander Georgiev
-
Sort of. But we give ourselves the right to be screwed, if you will? We can sign Marky & lose either he, or Demko? Or not sign Markstrom, and lose a defenseman. We are still going to lose someone. We can also not sign Tanev, or Tryamkin so we do not lose a defenceman! I also have 8 forwards I would like to be in a position to protect (Bo, Elias, Boeser, Miller, Ferland, Roussel, Gaudette, Motte & Jake. I suppose we dont have to protect Motte, otherwise it would be 9. And I think Roussel's contract will be up? But we can also suck next year, so we dont have to lose anybody!

Would you like to see Kesler in the Ring of Honour?
Canuck Surfer replied to iBlueGreen's topic in Canucks Talk
Needs a few years. Once the pain has gone. We are receeding? Once I have become, comfortably numb... -
My pick for 5th guy is Quintin Byfield still Podkolzin. KHL deals can be bought out. Albeit, it has to be by the player. Utunen makes some sense. But he is a Euro draft pick. Unlike the CHL, we retain his rights through age 25. And he is undersized, a defensive D. My guess is they let him develop in the pro leagues there. My up next if not Podz is Linus Karlsson. He is also a Euro pick, albeit acquirred by trade. A two way defensive pivot. Utica is killing it. But could use an injection of talent at centre ice without having to sign an overager. After Madden, I believe Karlsson is next on the depth chart among pivots? Focht maybe has a bit of upside. Karlsson however a near NHL ready body. 6'1'' 185 lbs. Already a couple of pro years under his belt, could help the Comets... Karlsson would be more about Utica IMO. A prospect who make our AHL club stronger then also helps the development of all prospects in the organization. @aGENT

[Report] Anaheim Willing to Take Bad Contracts
Canuck Surfer replied to Provost's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
We can fit all our players back from injury. And still be under the cap this year. You are correct, that some bonus money may end up carried in to next year. That is a good problem to have; superlative rookie & young players. I'll take that any day.... I'm certainly not going to trade Demko, so we dont have to carry a bonus over. -
Toews & Keith get into scrap at morning skate
Canuck Surfer replied to Deets's topic in General Hockey Discussion
In simple logic it makes sense. Not that they got home team discounts from Laine, Connor. Nor Trouba while we are at it. No question, revisionist Cheveldayoff has tried to outnegotiate players. And my spidey sense says not all players want a part of the team, even if some bought in. Playing hardball could be behind why Buff sang to his own doctor's tune? But that is just speculation. For the record, I had similar Canuck speculation about 2013. When Kesler waited till the end of summer to have surgery which required 4 months rehab. Lou wanted out? It will really only make sense if they, Winnipeg, can get the D up to the standard needed. Based on al these sage signings and decisons. Winnipeg is still icing a lineup with Bittto, Kulikov & Sbisa playing key minutes. Sbisa sometimes playing twety minutes a night. Nathan Beaulieu made the opening night roster i believe? All whom have been let go, not signed, or waived by other teams. It is an unbalanced team... Tell Chevy well done! -

Canuck Surfer replied to Deets's topic in General Hockey Discussion
Yeah, by memory that was actually almost exactly it. In a day when top players get $12 mill. And good players get %6 to $8 mill. Its probably not realistic to build your team expecting to pay UFA top 4 D $4mill. They walk. Because Poolman played well for a few months? But is now injured. Does not also mean they are better off with Sbisa than Myers in your top 4. Or Kulikov. Or that Bitetto is great on the bottom pair? The Jets let a good situation get away from themselves. Winnipeg probably needs to flush their relationship with Buff. Great, but also toxic at times. So they can afford to pay some other guy just like Myers $6 mill. It will buy them time for Heinola, Samberg, maybe Lundmark. -
[Rumour] Mikael Granlund Available
Canuck Surfer replied to aGENT's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
I really like this post. The correct outlook as to whether we should, or should not trade. The correct target, Kreider already is what Jake is becoming. Speed which will help our line up! It would be great to have two on our team! And when I really hope we ge him is this summer. When assets are not part of the equation! -

Canuck Surfer replied to Deets's topic in General Hockey Discussion
Sorry. You are sorta correct. Like Rafferty & Teves are already on their 2knd contract because they signed their ELC at a mature age. They were immediately eligible for a 2knd contract. It matters little. None had virtually any NHL experience. So had no bargaining power for a bigger contract. Nor did Poolman. You are welcome to the opinion it makes the Jets geniuses. The real truth, for us and your Jets is that it pays to draft, stockpile, and develop good draft picks & young players. Gaudette is helping us. Poolman was helping the Jets. Rafferty may help us? He looks great in the AHL. Eriksson is hurting us. Byfuglien is hurting the Jets. You can pin ''Myers is a bad cap hit,'' or "Myers is bad corsi'' type dialogue. I recall clear as day you arguing Myers should re-sign last year. As long as he signs for the figure the Jets could afford. The world does not work that way. Myers, it could be argued is overpaid. Is not perfect. Is still helping our team.
