  1. So last year at this time? We traded Reilly Smith for 2 prospects. Probably not our best deal, wish we had back... But a good day for those prospects today. Kailer Yamamoto with his 1st NHL assist of the year. Calen Addison anchoring the point on Team Canada's PP over players like Bowen Byram & Ty Smith. 5 points so far in the WJC's for Addison which is positive.
  2. Im not the GM. But I dont have much interest in rentals. Meanwhile Hoglander is leading the WJC's in scoring. One of the best athletes from his draft. We need that speed and those skating edges on our team more than Toffoli! I can be patient!
  3. So technically? We are still in it with 4 Russians. But as I said; we were here to learn? I picked Morozov & Dorofeyev after reading they would be on the top PP with Denisenko. Plus Romanov. But roles and game luck would have to changea lot. Does not look like we will marching up the leader board. I guess I am saying we picked the wrong guys. Hell, even Romanov sat most power plays. Even if we went heavy on Rusiians. Zamula by @Nail and Marchenko by @AriGold2.0 were the picks to make.
  4. So I reddit the games yesterday. Was good through the Russian Swiss game. Was not worth my time through the Canadian game. Play 5, 6 seconds, freeeze for 2 minutes. 5 seconds, freeze 4 minutes... Anyone got any better places to watch?
  5. Florida recalls F Kailer Yamamoto Florida assigns F Filip Chlapik no waivers @Primal Optimist
  6. Chipping away! We were over 400 points behind @inane at one point. Now about 150... And sheesh, @Salter does not look like he is going away? And has a wicked prospect pool!
  7. You have your opinion. Guns equals escalation everywhere there is violence. Vancouver has 45 or 50 murders per year. Canada 450 or 500. Here is the Wlkepedia list of American murders by US region; https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gun_violence_in_the_United_States_by_state Like you, I agree gang violence is the cultural factor driving murder rates. Socio-economic factors driving gang membership. How they go about it I covered clearly in an earlier post. I watched a show last night about the historical rise of the Crips and Bloods in Los Angeles. Gangs initiated in the early 70's, late 60's. Gang members themselves were incredibly clear about the role of guns in escalating the violence. It was about blood sport and ranking when they started. Gangs that stayed out & brawled when kids were 14? Were run by guys "Mike Tyson would have been scared of!'' Became quickly about retribution with guns when kids were beaten to death. But really, like with motorcycle gangs in Canada? And everywhere. Gun shops opened in the mid 70's in LA. The Bloods were vastly outnumbered. But now could use guns to keep marauding Crips out of their territory. The guy who started the Crips was shot by one of his own. Members had grown up. Now it was about money, and turf to sell drugs. The most violent offenders controlled distribution, prostitution. Then gambling, loan sharking, extortion as next level rackets. All more profitable than working. Yes its about gangs. But gangs exist to a much greater degree because of access to guns. Almost no US state does not have at least three times the murder rate of Canada. Some ten times & a few twenty times & more the murder rate. The worst are the suburban area's around big cities where gang members grew up & lived.
  8. I have to be honest, I would pick Makar in on merit over Hughes. I am actually cheering they both still get in. I dont have a problem paying bonuses guys clearly earn.
  9. Yes. Clearly. The internet educates people on all kinds of different ways to be violent if they are disturbed, high? They see weapons like trucks mowing down tourists in Paris. Or Melbourne where I live. Not once, but twice. By locals, not a terrorist. All glamorise violence. True they do not need guns? Rap sings about a hoods life, and young kids see gangsters in pimped out Chevy Tahoe's. $120,000 rides, $10,000 chains around their neck. While mum is in a crack house. The true idiots will still find a weapon. We do need to set a different reality in front of parts of society that do not have positive role models. Opportunities. No. They are still part of that table which makes it easier to be a gangster. To domineer, intimidate. Which breeds more gangsters. They are still routinely, and increasingly part of a culture? Where a guy who gets picked on at school. work, Is disillusioned, or suicidal, suffering depression. Has psychopathic thoughts & no friends, assassinates those who picked on him. How many US school shootings have their been? Workplace, those upset with the govt.? A company uses dynamite to clear avalanches, another to mine gold. It does not mean we should give everyone bombs. There is a mathematical correlation to the number of guns & the number of shootings. Reducing their availability will equally & proportionately improve public safety.
  10. Brock is on track for 78 points this year. Boeser scored 29 as a rookie. In 62 games. Those are first line numbers both. They wont match Ovetchkin getting 52 goals as a rookie. Or 51 by Stamklos as a second year player. But I did not claim he was a hall of fame player. I claimed he was capable of getting 50 goals at least once. I would say, at 22, already a first line forward? That he will get better is a safe projection. I believe a 29 goal rookie is capable of that in his career. Haha yourself.
  11. Lets get there first? I'll give an example in a sec. And fair enough. Its great, not just that we have some success stories. That we seem to actually have a legitimate pipeline going. Some guys who project to be as good as the new & improved Jake. Maybe even better? LA in 2012 is the perfect example. As a prospect Brayden Schenn looked like a legit 2knd liner, maybe better. Same with Simmonds. They traded them, landed in their prime first line players. But they built that pipeline for over 8 years. Before they had ''so much'' surplus. Also traded Jack Johnson because they Martinez & that Russian wife beater coming. That they could trade from strength. We're not there yet. Boston had not won yet when they traded the guys you mentioned. Well, Seguin. But I dont believe they advanced their cause trading him or Thornton. Hamilton was not living up to expectations, they were having trouble coaching, assimilating him. Seguin was another culture problem? And an example like Jake, might even prove the opposite. That if you bear down and develop these guys, not give up on them. Force them to earn their role! Or pay them too much too early? Boston gave Lucic & Hornton, also Rask a WHACK of money when they first started producing. They traded players because they let their cost & cap get out of control. They were paying the wrong guys. Kessel was the stereotype lazy, overpaid, indulgent, but demanding player it is hard to win with. I do give them props for trading him. They also traded Wheeler? I guess it helped them get a championship. But they lost the better player IMO. Wheeler / Peverley, who would you rather have?? Imagine how good they would have been the last 5 years if they kept Seguin & Wheeler? In two years virtually all our veteran contracts, save Myers & Miller will have a year left. Are done. I dont believe we will have Bostons problem in paying our young stars. I believe having a pipeline of ELC's also arriving at that time will allow us to be in on ''this years Panarin.'' I dont see wheeling and dealing Boeser in my vision. But it is a forum. I am not unhappy you posted your thoughts.
  12. Canada has a balance. Clearly a much better than the US. But not perfect. And there are other factors. Minimum wage for example. $7.50/hour average versus just over $11 in Canada. And bigger markets in the US. Why is it a factor when it comes to guns? Public education is also poorer. There is no way out for some. The guy who runs Wall Mart gets rich, you get fired stealing food because you cant make ends meet. Drown your sorrows in cheap crack. The kids are left on their own. Have you ever been to rough area's of Indianapolis, Detroit, Mississippi? Had a beer in a redneck bar in Arizona or Utah? I have. An observation I always had is how many US sitcoms have such outrageously dumb characters. The observation is that it was flabbergasting how many guys like the cook in Mels Diner (Alice), Archie Bunker, Vinnie Barbarino, and fast talking ones like Chris Rock or Eddie Murphy there are. People are dead set thick, but its lack of education or context. It occurs because kids at 11 and 13 play in the streets, take care of their 2 and 4 year old brothers and sisters. Their parents, if they have two, not already in jail or a crack house? Are both working for sh!t wages, usually two jobs after school. There is no babysitter. And a gang guy pops a gun at your teenager, makes them watch a corner while they pimp or sell drugs. Then flip the 11 year old a $50. More money than the parents have for spending cash in a week.! Its how they recruit into gangs. And they show up at your high school with a gun, tell you to show back up at the corner after school. ''Or else!'' Two years later you are a gang banger, and doing drive buys to protect that corner, your gangs turf. That is the root of the problem. That they shoot each other, because of gun laws, instead of just beating each other escalates it.
  13. Thanks Mike. I just looked at my roster sheet this morning and saw Lias on my main squad. Lilja in the minors. Couple big parties over Christmas. I had forgot that I may have asked for the transaction earlier.
  14. See just below for your answer. The problem with being a passionate fan sometimes. Even a hockey guy like yourself? People set the bar at Pavel Bure. Or you are a disappointment. It is BS IMO. I am being harsh. You only suggested we could trade him. It is still giving up on him early. Noting that ''we can trade him'' because Jake is starting to produce. I am happy we are excited for Jake! But he is scoring at half Boeser's rate. While ''breaking out.'' Same thing in Toronto. Or our CDC critics regarding the Leafs. If Nylander is not a two way physical beast. Or scoring 100 points? He is a bum! Same with Monahan in Calgary. Guys like Boeser & Nylander, other teams drool over getting. Maybe they are not 1st team ALL NHL talent. Not yet anyway. But they are fantastic NHL players. With tremendous upside. I would not be surprised if either hit 100 points or 50 goals once in their careers. I would be surprised if they DID NOT hit 40 goals at least once, and 80 points several times in their careers. I repeat that I believe Boeser is capable of hitting 50 goals. Brock might hit 80 points this year. Plus one! Boeser is just 22. Daniel Sedin had a high of 20 goals at 22 years old. Did not hit 30 till he was 26 almost 27. We need some patience...
  15. He scored at a 38/39 goal rate as a rookie. Is nearly a point a game so far this year. He is a top line forward on most NHL teams. Imagine him taking passes from Backstrom or Kuznetsov? From Malkin... Jebus, Boeser was scoring at a 39 goal rate as a rookie! Because he had PP time with the Twins. As much as I love Petey! He has to develop before he can get max potential out of his wingers? Not a twin yet! Elias alone developing as a play maker should have guys drooling over Boeser's potential. Who is already easily our 2knd best (forward, Hughes trumps overall) puck handler and shooter. Think what we will do when Pettersson, who will be IMO but is not yet, is better than say Backstrom? Then we add Hoglanders speed, Juolevi's outlet & PP passing, Podkolzins puck drive & thievery which see's us with the puck. And Hughes cranking up ice with Juolevi's breakout passes? There are several more gears to come from our offence. Then we add Boeser himself developing. He has stepped back, as he has learned to be a guy handling the puck. At which CDC see's foul, I see a guy improving & taking it on. 50 is not guaranteed by any stretch. Yes I believe it in his potential!
  16. Its also a caution to think we are a contender because we may make play off's in a weak division. ie I am not advocating spending futures for rentals at the deadline. Be satisfied getting some tough game experience for our guys. Including in the run up to April to try & make it. Still collect some assets, not spend them!
  17. I don't agree with this. Two years from now; Hoglander Pettersson Boeser * Hoglander adds world class speed & puck pursuit, can keep up with hockey more than Jake Jake Horvat Podkolzin ** these guys all play the same way. And it will be a brutal line to play against. Miller Gaudette Lind Motte Beagle Madden Boeser has 50 goal upside, can handle the puck in traffic. What his line with Petey needs is speed, which it will have with Hoglander. In good times Podz, Jake & Hoglander are 20 & 25 goal guys that are hard to play against. Not guys that can handle the puck & make plays with a 6'5'' defender hanging on them.
  18. CDC was so all over Lind when he was drafted. Based on JB's caught on microphone comments. Lind will have a very hard time staying above Hoglander on the depth chart. Some extra size & hockey sense, but not the athlete. Hoglander, like Jake is a player the coach can deploy, and teams physically will have a hard time playing against. Too much strength and agility to be stopped.
  19. Hoglander was a top 15, maybe even top 10 athlete in the draft. Athlete, not necessarily hockey player. But did have the underlying hockey skills. These were masked a bit because he was playing against older SHL competition. It hid results under the surface. That, and him being under 6' lead to him not being drafted higher. A good scouts find! He would have destroyed younger competition! He's like picking Jake to me, except in the 2knd round. Which is a steal versus a risk. He has explosive speed & agility, is wickedly strong for his size. The agility will make him more dangerous than Jake. As will his hand / eye, that he has the ability to handle the puck. Not on Pettersson's level of passing or shooting. Or hockey sense. Pearson with world class speed & edges. And he battles. I see Arvidsson potential, even more engaged? He is going to be a treat to watch!
  20. Edmonton ASSIGNS F Lias Andersson. no waivers required Edmonton RECALLS F Jacob Lilja @Mike Vanderhoek @canuck2xtreme with thanks as always!
