It is a lot of things. I dont suppose Juice was complaining about moving to California? Lou to Florida? But would you really want to live in Minneapolis over Vancouver? Players seem to like St Louis, Columbus. But I dont see what the attraction is? I've been there... Players come to Canada when you are winning. But it has to be thought of, that no Canadian team has won, in what, 30 years? IMO the single biggest factor is the fishbowl! It affects players when they live here. Some thrive on it. The impact on personal life. Most would prefer it not be a factor. I also believe it is the more intense pressure & scrutiny the GM's are under. They will get strung up if you dont overpay someone. Particularly RFA's. Its more about the impact on hockey decisions. Jim overpaid to keep players when he arrived. Now he is starting to show some judgement? The contracts are not so heavily tipped in the players favour. It gives us a fighting chance. It will be very interesting to see what happens with Markstrom and Tanev. It will be quite the coup if we can retain both on favourable deals.

I thought you projected it would be Ristolainen to be flushed for rotten eggs? I mean, like, no one would want a 6'4'' big minutes D man,on track for 5 straight 40 point seasons... -

[Waivers] Madison Bowey
Canuck Surfer replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
I would take a crack as well. My take is he can't be that much worse than our 7th D; Fantenburg who is not bad at all actually. Bowey is larger, faster, meaner and right handed, ideal for our 8th D. Where if we lose Fantenburg? We can call up Brisbois, we can hopefully call up Juolevi, we can call up Sautner as left handed D. Even if Bowey did not work out? Its not a bad risk. But character and leadership are probably no longer things to be claimed. He makes dumb plays, those of someone who has a screw loose. About 4 weeks ago, in the 3rd period, he tripped a developing break. By opening the door from the penalty box, and chipping his stick between an opponents skates. From the box, before his penalty was over. Classic stuff to get your coach fired! Then in Washington, he was caught smoking weed. Do lots of NHL'ers? Probably. Especially ones who lived in BC for 3 or 4 years. But his discipline and intelligence have been a constant concern. And he has been an underperformer. He is a great physical talent. Not everyone understood why he slipped to the 3rd round either? Maybe he has always had a screw loose. -
2019/20 World Junior Championships
Canuck Surfer replied to Deathrowe's topic in General Hockey Discussion
I think I saw an article that said Wahlstrom, approaching his tenth NHL game of the year & an active AHL pro in Bridgeport for the Islanders? May still be released to play in the tourney. His hype has dwindled, but is still a great prospect! -

Rumour has it we took a hard look at a play off goalie a few weeks ago...

[PGT] Buffalo Sabres at Vancouver Canucks | Dec. 07, 2019
Canuck Surfer replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Canucks Talk
This is a good post. Obviously I agree Sutter is much better than Gaud defensively based on my own last post. I am not sure Gaud is better served as a winger? Possibly on a line with Horvat and Pearson. It is simply the best deployment option as he deserves to be in the line up. But cannot play the defensive role we ask of our two shut down lines as well as Beagle or Sutter. He fights & competes hard for the puck. But needs time. Unless we agree, err the coaches decide, to make the Beagle 4th & Horvat 2knd lines our defensive lines. In which case Sutter can be a wing for Bo. He has speed, a nice shot. They can switch draws based on side of the dot. Gawd can continue to play with Ferland & Jake. But I like our team better with Petey, Bo, Sutter and Beagle down the middle than with Gawd on the 3rd. At this stage of his development. I do believe wing is a good place to keep him in the line up. A good place to take advantage of his offensive skills. -

We play much better as a team when Sutter is healthy. Gaudette is clearly better offensively. But the Horvat line draws defensive match ups & its offense suffers. Which is an even up as far as our potential to score. But when Sutter plays, we shut down the other teams top lines. We still pick up offense. We're even offensively and winning games 4 & 5 to 2. Currently we're winning and losing games with 4 & 5 goals. We have a 2knd stifling PK line also. Our goals against suffer quite a bit when Edler & Sutter are out. We're absolutely better when Sutter is available! -
A dopey pick : Alexander Romanov @inane
