[Official] 2019 Training Camp Thread
Canuck Surfer replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Canucks Talk
Well, yes? But we don't have to do any thing from a cap standpoint. We are currently $1.823 Mill over cap. With 26 players including Roussel & with Boeser's cap hit. We can only carry 23 players. $1.823 / 3 = $604,000 per 3 players cut, demoted, waived, on IR, anything... When we trim those three players from our roster, even when Roussel is back? We are under the limit. Its a neutral position. We only have to consider cap in making trades, as Benning is rumoured to be in the market... -
From the outside looking in, might seem that way. I see potential this is depression. Not feeling good, not feeling good! Go get help, or ???

That's very old news. Why even bring it up at this point?

That's a brick sh!thouse right there! Even the dog is happy. Wants guns like dat! Knows no one can mess with us...

Edmonton no doubt?

I also recall, circa 2012/13? Debating that the Detroit way looked like it was running out of steam. Couple years later they found Larkin. But had a whole 5 year window of very average slow cookin... No doubt Jurco was still better than Jensen. Detroit drafted their own.

Cripes

A giveaway sure? He's been clearing the crease, making moves, pulling the puck up ice. I see all the potential, as well as the mistakes...
-
Tyler Myers first with a brilliant move, sweep up ice. Then tire fire dangerous giveway.
-
Peaking?
-
OK Sutts! Weak race for the puck before he moved in.

Hoot, woot, toot!!! Haha, as bad as Talbot looked there? That was TJ Brodie, top line D made look like a complacent arse by Jake! Oh, the link disappeared? Jakes 3rd period goal, not that he blew past Giordano? But he did pass Giordano to score that goal. That's two good D he schooled. And a plug goalie... Good on Jake, no matter how it looked.

It was a risk short term. With Brock signed, and 26 players in camp, we are just under $1.9 over the cap. Benning keeps mentioning we can use LTIR? But the roster can only hold 23 active players. We don't have anyone on sub $700,000 deals. Even if we send or waive the three lowest paid players on the 26 man roster to Utica? We're under the cap! Key point, we're ok short term! Maybe this means we still have moves to make! More seriously, next year, mid term, we have Jake, Motte & a few others to sign. But Tanev, Schaller & Leivo, maybe even Markstrom coming off the books. Not much wiggle room, but again ok. Trade Sutter, or dispatch Markstrom cux Thatcher is raging, Eriksson & suddenly we have cap space for a Tyson Barrie. We have to make up our mind also on Stecher. Or??? Next summer is a pinch, but not a pickle! 2 years from now, almost everyone is off the books. Sutter, Pearson, Baertschi, Edler. Puke, still a year with Eriksson. We hang on to Boeser, 1 more year with Miller, Beagle, Horvat, still have Myers, Ferland. On that note, Myers would be our only signed D? We would have, status quo, only 8 players signed & $40 mill in cap space. Even if the cap did not go up. At that time, presumably, we would be welcoming Hoglander & Podkolzin, possibly Lind on ELC's. Re-signing mammoth deals with Pettersson & close to mammoth with Hughes. But $22 to $27 mill for 13 players. Point being we have cart blanche to do real damage after next summer; with a core of Pettersson, Hoglander, Podkolzin, Hughes, Myers, Demko, Boeser, hopefully & presumably Jake, Gaudette. Juolevi, Tyler Madden, Woo, maybe even Tryamkin as its key role players? Organizationally, the only area I am real concerned about; we're going to need to draft / trade for another key young centre in the next 2 years. Just, on the off chance we have to start planning past Horvat, and prognosticate that Gaudette or Madden wont steal his job. Which honestly we should not? Its nice to think he will re-sign when his pact is up the year after. But you always need a backup plan. I'm a bit nervous we may need more D with so many contracts expiring. But Utunen, Brisbois, Rathbone all seem to be developing exceedingly well.

I would have thought, on a 7 or 8 year deal, we would already be paying him $7.5 mill. That qualifying figure is fine! I'm jacked. I love the three year term. Gone are the days when you can pressure RFA's on bridge deals. See PK Subban, 2012 $2.9Mill by memory. $5.875 sounds like a lot on a bridge for Brock. But its the market. Konecny just goy $5.5mill for 3 years & Boeser >> Konecny. The three year term expires at 25 & we can sign him for another 5 or 7 years. It means we have, for example, so much more ooportunity to see Brock Boeser in a Canuck uni. Compared to say Tavares leaving the Island at 27. NYI's paid for having him on a cheap 6 year deal. Matthews can walk from TO, who wouldn't want that? At age 26. This sorta bridge, even for more money, would have served them so much better!

We had no option to trade him to Vegas? They were not around. There are bigger party stops on the tour than Montreal. And you could make one, if you wanted to, anytime with the money these guys make. LA seems as they had poolside binge parties before and after games. Its team way too casual, inconsistent, even when they were good. My guess as to worst location. Ask Mike Richards, Jaret Stoll? An addict will be an addict. In small town Sask, or big lights. Regardless which city. Benning mentioned he had been through Stage 1, unknown to public, while he was here. Clearly dispatched with discosure to Bergevin. Or we would have had better compensation. And Zach also had conversations with Montreal? Or he would have had more rope. ATEOTD he's playing again. Curious if he can hang on to the wing position before Yamamoto, or more likely Tyler Benson grabs it?
-
To be fair, it took more than 12 months for him to resurface. And its not like he ever lived up to expectations, before or after. He was always going to be an NHL player, not fringe guy. Too much size & speed. Always a place to deploy him. Better guy than given credit for? But also did not maximise his career.
-
Brisbois is still exempt from waivers. 1 more season or 152 NHL games played. Whichever comes first. Good to hear the polish is starting to appear? Which makes that a question for next year, as per Cap Friendly;

[Rumor] Boeser Camp Eyeing 4 Year Deal Worth $28M
Canuck Surfer replied to buddyguy's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Hmmm Maybe I'm splitting hairs? But your $6.66 or $7 mill projections, also in this thread, are more than marginal in my math. Just my math tho... I was actually on board with 6 x $7mill. Engaging with your for the fun of it; I am starting to see the argument he might be worth more? Nah, I'll stick with 6 x $7mill. I had that 3 and 6 months ago.
