Holy cow, improve by 800 points. Track to what would be a league record a few years ago. And still project to 3rd place (a fact we know and acknowledged earlier this summer.) Who's idea was it to put Carolina in the Atlantic? That still sulks. And should be fixed in our opinion. Unanimous vote among execs, not GM's. I would have literally cut Bettman's head off had we been asked. We'll take (a greatly improved) Detroit team back for Car please. Balance the teams as per the actual league divisions is completely reasonable. The moving Pitt's last year team out, made the Metro an even easier division. You can fix that right now, Detroit / Carolina and its even a fair move for those GM's. Its even fair for Buffalo & NJD. @Salter @thejazz97 @Jaku BTW, I am very serious. Its a very fair suggestion. Better yet, move @inane to the west...

[Proposal] Sutter for Pulujarvi
Canuck Surfer replied to Provost's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
Sutter's $4.375 mill x 0.5 = 2.185 mill retained. Add a body at $1 mill, presumably Puljujarvi? I suppose we have a little over $1.3 mill gained. What are the odd's pool party forces a trade and signes for $1 mill? Does not make such a trade any more likely. If you are Edmonton, are you going to trade Puljujarvi for a guy who scored 6 points and played 26 games last year... Nope. Would Edmonton take or give a 5th round pick to take on Sutter at 50%? Maybe! I would not even then if I were them? Sign a PTO & they signed two Euro UFA's Haas & Nygard to place-hold. Take your lumps, see what a new coach gets out his crew. See how the team does with a healthy Klefbom, their Edler. With Evan Bouchard to help their PP, add some size to the back end. He's coming this year. Benson and Yamamoto will also arrive at some point this year. Extra speed & puck skill. They have holes, depth issues & poor goaltending. Which quite likely will break them. But better top end talent than a lot of play off teams. Get those components firing and they will show flashes this year IMO. They have a very good AHL squad in Bakersfield. There is room to consider that several pieces will become ^^^ that depth by next season. Even if they don't arrive this. Missing the play off's & getting another lottery pick next year would not be a bad outcome all things considered. Within a year or so Edmonton will be very good. And I fully expect them to get a good young D man, Jake Bean maybe if Carolina re-signs Faulk. As compensation for Puljujarvi, who could be reunited with Sebastian Aho. -
[Proposal] Sutter for Pulujarvi
Canuck Surfer replied to Provost's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
Among other reasons the concept is dumb? Edmonton has $2.5 mill in cap space. Sutter has well over $4mill in salary with a 23 man full roster. They can't afford Sutter. And we cant afford to sign Boeser, and pay Puljujarvi over the league minimum if we retain 1/2 his salary. Holland will wait out Puljujarvi. Until a team offers 1st round calibre assets, likely an exciting ELC D man. Drooling over your fur is not a good look Alf. Nor are they going to put him on waivers. Its a non issue. -
[Proposal] Sutter for Pulujarvi
Canuck Surfer replied to Provost's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
No, it was reasonably similar. Pool party was a top 3 prospect in the world. Juolevi top 3 defenceman in his draft. As agreed by virtually the entire reported scouting and media world. We're not going to trade Olli for a declining, injury prone, expensive over 30 veteran with an NTC. Getting to the point he is struggling to stay in the line up. That was the comparison. I have no idea why an argument I did not make, Boeser, changes that one lick. Or your belief Baer may have compared at a prospect level? I don't care. Edmonton is not going to trade Puljujarvi for a declining expensive veteran. It is just my opinion, but so be it. You can argue they will. Good luck with that. -
[Proposal] Sutter for Pulujarvi
Canuck Surfer replied to Provost's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
Juolevi & Puljujarvi were 5th and 4th overall. We paid, by memory, the 2knd that is becoming Rasmus Anderson. Calgary has a potential 10 year core player. Good on Calgary for making the risk of moving a 13th overall. But Baer was not the prospect Pulli was. I don't believe, at this stage we can get a 2knd for Sutter. -
PS: Congratulations Leon!

Holy cow! For all the trades I lost? Leon & his 50 goals was a big home run for us!
-
Is that the correct picture? I don't recall him playing for Philly?

[Proposal] Sutter for Pulujarvi
Canuck Surfer replied to Provost's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
Imagine Edmonton offering us Kris Russell for Juolevi? This would the scale of stupid is, is stupid does response from the best and brightest Oilers fans (sic). To match the likelihood of us receiving Puljujarvi for Sutter. Worse. This thread has lasted 5 pages. There are even responses that question whether we would want pool party in such a deal? Embarrassing this proposal and thread. Just my opinion. -
LOL, Less than 2 months ago drafted, In the 6th round, no less, Now the next Ken Dryden...

Benning trying to get to "common ground" with Boeser
Canuck Surfer replied to BrockBoester's topic in Canucks Talk
I think there is more to it Stawns. When Petey does not handle the puck, the second go to guy for zone entries on the team was Boeser. No, he does not fly up the ice, not quite as acrobatic. Boeser is still actually very good at handling, and protecting the puck under pressure. He beats guys routinely. Just does not blast up ice, or to the net after doing so to make it as noticeable. Or as dynamic a scoring chance. He is still very good in tight with the puck. He had 26 & 25 assists his first 2 years, almost as many as goals. He has his head up & makes plays. He's strong enough in the cycle game... Nor is he poor defensively. Keeps moving, covers his lane, engages, back checks. One dimensional implies he's not good at other parts of the game other than goal scoring. -
[PTO] Andrew MacDonald with Flames
Canuck Surfer replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
I suppose this is fair? But they, literally, spent 4 1st round picks & Ferland on their current D (Hanifin, Hamonic) and Lindholm. Drafted their core, in Monahan, Pee Wee Hockey & Tkachuk. There is parity on auto pilot, when the reality of those cap hits surfaces. That said, why is the onus on a first place team to improve? Buy it, or not, their mantra a well known theory that a top team has to go out at least once in the first round? To learn its lessons before it truly rises. That may be BS, but both Calgary, and Tampa more notably, have to sing that song to their troops. And their fans. They may make bigger moves at the deadline. If you include the top 3? Florida with Barkov, Trochek and Borgstrom looks pretty wicked. NYR's can be brought up, although Zibanajed is even older than Trocheck & Barkov. (By memory). And his tag teams are Chytyl, Howden & Lias Andersson. But honestly, the obvious choices are Calgary & Edmonton. Calgary, if you deploy Lindholm in his native C position behind, or ahead, of Monahan. Cheating? Maybe New Jersey may join, with Jack Hughes & Nico Hischier. Draisaitl & McDavid were 4th & 1st in scoring, Draisaitl over 50 goals for Edmonton. Its head and shoulders above anyone ATM. -
Benning trying to get to "common ground" with Boeser
Canuck Surfer replied to BrockBoester's topic in Canucks Talk
Gere is the thing? This is Ovechkin quality talent. Laine scored 18 goals in November. EIGHTEEN! But he also only scored 12 goals the other 5 months of the season. Barely over two per month. You can argue he can ask? I see every reason why Winnipeg would & should bridge Laine. Let him display some passion, and effort! That he's willing to throw his 6'4'' frame into someone to win a puck for gawds sake. -
[Proposal] Sutter for Pulujarvi
Canuck Surfer replied to Provost's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
I agree on both points. Sutter probably was core when he was 26. And we needed a defensive centre to shelter Bo. The he got hurt. And we threw Bo in the deep end anyway... Now? Merely useful. And replaceable. I have said in other threads though. Not a dead loss? Poor value, sure! But every team has at least two useful guys who get paid too much. No chance in hell we trade Juolevi for a Sutter like asset. You are correct in that Edmonton does not cut their losses that hard. He's 6'4'' and fast. There is a way for a coach to deploy pool party. Before anyone reminds me, I know he does not fight. But his floor is a player like Zach Kassian. And I personally believe Puljujarvi is much more gifted. I suspect / expect he will surface more significantly. -

[Signing] Wild re-sign Joel Eriksson Ek
Canuck Surfer replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Maybe having the coach say “”this is a guy who deserves ice time. And for this reason?”” And also weighs in on? Whether he is likely to make it. Or not? Ek’s coach, a notorious hard ass, says things like “he gets it.” Factors in on whether the GM gives an extra 1/2 mill. Ek is a Jay Beagle, minus the scrum after every whistle. Who may still develop into. JT Miller. 210lb guy who can play on any line, any position. PK, win a puck battle. Backcheck, fore check, hawk passing lanes. Goldobin has not been doing any of those things when he does not score. Goldys coach says as much, that he has to. Disagree that Goldy’s points on their own warrant a similar contract. -
[Signing] Wild re-sign Joel Eriksson Ek
Canuck Surfer replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Minny, just my opinion, would not in their wildest dreams? Give us Ek for Goldobin. And I would be thrilled if they did. Gaudette plus 15 or 20 lbs and a better shot. Look up the YouTube of his first NHL goal. A worker bee goal. One Burrows or Kessler would have been known for when they were breaking in... Goldobins production was not that great considering deployment. Or alternate value to the team. Goldobins primary goal should be a one way contract. And to improve! Skills, but has yet to put it together. -
