Myers as a net front presence. Channeling your inner Joel Quenneville? I'd rather see Miller, or in particular Bo Horvat there... They also win battles, start cycles by winning pucks. -
Its fun if you are a fan in the upper decks for crowd interaction. But otherwise uneventful. But I've been to all the Canadian arena's for a game except Montreal. And WJC's in Ottawa 2008. Hodgson, Tavares, Eberle, PK Subban, Erik Karlsson was there but I did not see Sweden play . Plus games in Detroit & Minny. I had front row seats for the old Jets play to play in Vancouver. Mogilny versus Selanne. Just behind the goal. The speed at ice level was jaw dropping! Those guys stood out, mesmerizing. Men against boys, no one could stop them! Mogilny could make a subtle adjustment in his hips flying up ice at top speed, almost unnoticeable. Move 10 feet from left to right in a blink. And the puck 15 or 20 feet as he shifted. He left the same defenceman, Darryl Shannon by memory, looking like he had been rag dolled, tripping over more than once. Selanne was even faster, but not as slick. That's the best I got. I think @Master Mind see's a lot of the junior age stuff?

Ah, yes. I watched as well. Mind blowing game! I thought you were at the arena...

Was that in Vegas, or SJ? (Presuming the Pavelski beat down...?)

Hiccup, Yuus?

That sounds like an indictment. Not a question? Thanks for posting. But I did not like the interview. I personally don't want every interview to cover what Loui Eriksson said. I personally don't believe an interviewer needs an upper hand by reminding a coach his team was 25th in scoring. In theory to ask a question about where they would improve.

[Waivers] Michael Stone (Buyout)
Canuck Surfer replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
I think They're brothers? Brodie plays the off side. Over the years a lot, and with Giordano. TO is still better off with a pure RHD, and one with more speed; Barrie. They're not going to be defensive anyway. Someone to add a few gears up their transition game is more useful IMO. I don't like a lot of what Toronto has done lately, but I like that move. I remain curious what we can get for Tanev from them? That would also help them... (Not that JMJB is likely to trade assets without seeing if we are in any play off hunt anyway?) -
Do You Have Confidence In The Canucks Front Office..?
Canuck Surfer replied to Honky Cat's topic in Canucks Talk
That was the point. 24 players = not allowed, but already reflects spend of $975,000 on Motte & $825,000 on Biega. In actual fact, Roussel will be on IR & we can exceed the cap till he comes back. Still? Two have to be removed. Two salaries removed means there is at least $6.7/$6.8 mill to sign Boeser. Or are you alluding to moving Eriksson, or Schaller, some other cap or trade? -

These threads do bring out the guys who want to complain? I suppose a foul taste of Gagner, Bartkowski lingers... We're an improved team. One potentially with a great future. Is Myers the next Chara, Pronger? No! But he adds talent to our group. As do Myers & Ferland. We're still going to win, or not, based on our drafted players. These additions are a breath of fresh air. The team now belongs to Bo, Petey, Boeser! Hopefully Hughes, Podkolzin, Hoglander? I ain't going to judge till we see how they do! -

Hell, even just a modern day Pietrangelo... That's our cap space with a 24 man roster. We still have to get down to 23 including adding Boeser. Two bodies have to be removed from the equation; the least expensive two would add $1.7 mill to the available space to sign Brock. -

You will fail more times than you win. In selecting assets, drafting, making trades. There are only so many players good enough to make a difference! It is fair that we made some odd pro scouting backed acquisitions in particular. And some, Eriksson, just did not work out. Gudbrandson? But Benning was only designing the team to soften the fall. Some debate, we should not have tried to do so? We signed Megna, Chaput, Bartkowski, etc... We did embrace the rebuild. And this was before we told the public. But you still fail & especially then more times than you win. Many of our poor earlier decisions, were money puck decisions. What did we pay for Pouliot? Now we have some cap room, some assets, the decisions also need to start reflecting that. But value compounds when you draft a winner like Horvat. Exponentially when you draft a Pettersson. If Hughes is as advertised? We could be on our way. Even if not, we're only a step behind Toronto and Winnipeg. -
[Buyout] Rangers buy out Kevin Shattenkirk
Canuck Surfer replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Shattenkirk will be a player who makes a lot of extra money because he was bought out. was it Lecavalier who was bought out twice? Money is not everything. He may not want to go to Edmonton... wonder why no Gardiner talk there? -
Point being you can take any line of questioning seriously. Or not... And you have no obligation to be interviewed in a direction you don't want. A possible answer; ""Eriksson is on our team, till the coach says he's not. He showed up in great shape, and he's like everyone, trying to make the team better.'' ''Any other questions?'' I watched Tyler Myers get, and it was like the 2knd question, ''are you aware of the media circus you got yourself involved in? Can you live up to the expectations in Vancouver and a contract many say is overpaid?'' He smirked and mentioned something about already having played in a Canadian market. The smirk said, you realize you were dumb enough to be the 1st guy to ask that question? Viewed it as a great place to play hockey, and he would avoid the noise.
-
Colorado improved. They added Girard, a 2knd guy who could help move the puck to a pretty static D behind Barrie. It could have been part moving Duchesne. But I think they also added some components which were a limitation until then. I don't put the Islanders near 100 goal decrease in goals against down to Tavares leaving at all.
-
I wouldn't expect so. But they'll have training camp. Motte beat Gagner out of a job last year. Jake was sent to Utica his sophomore year. Even though we did not have a Leivo to replace him? I took a lot confidence from that. That it is competition, jobs can be won and lost. Motte also beat out Leipsic. You have to earn a job. It will simply play out. The contract part is already done. But the coach will get the autonomy to pick the team, regardless. I'm happy we could be waiving somebody better than Jason Megna. Not fretting over that. Benning is improving.
-
The distraction is probably bigger in the stands, err, on CDC, than it is in the dressing room. I'm sure they are well aware of it? But I doubt Horvat, nor Pettersson, will let down their training worrying about Loui Eriksson. BTW, we have 14 currently signed forwards. Roussel is injured, Boeser will get signed. Still 14. Another will be injured in training camp. The odd's Leivo loses a roster spot is minimal. Odd man out is Biega. Who will clear waivers like he has the last 5 years. And possibly Goldobin. Goldy could knock Leivo out of a roster spot? And if he does, good for him!

[Report] Wild fire GM Paul Fenton
Canuck Surfer replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in General Hockey Discussion
This is what I mean. It would be better if such things were not said in public. Nor does it look good on the owner. Fenton would have presented his strategic vision as a platform during the interview process. As sunsequent platform for organization, what a down the line hire might look like. Head scratcher. Minny's F'd. -
[Report] Wild fire GM Paul Fenton
Canuck Surfer replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in General Hockey Discussion
Wow. A fiery disposition gets in the way. Pretty sure Leopold could be paraphrased as wanting his GM to be bold when Fenton was hired. I'm sure that was not what he meant. Does not matter. Was not making great decisions. Nor is it an excuse for bad behaviour with employee's. I'm also of the mindset, its just my opinion, the owner is a good part of the problem. -
Thanks C2X for processing, @Tony Romo for the trade. We're obviously gambling Alex can resume a real life top 6 role and some young players can grab top 6 roles. But we also get the opportunity to work with him on a new contract next summer, based on where he is fitting. This seemed smarter than any 5 or 8 year big money UFA signings. It also takes some of the logjam, a good opportunity for Grant, out of a crowded prospect base. A deeper line up than recent years; Current Oilers Depth Chart; Henrik Borgstrom Alex Wennberg Patrick Kane Robbi Fabbri Frans Nielson Brendan Perlini Jakob Lilja Oskar Sundkvist Joakim Nygard Depth UFA TBA Lias Andersson Marcus Foligno Colton Sceviour,Tyler Benson Ryan Kuffner, Rasmus Asplund, Curtis Lazaar, Grigori Denisenko, Nick Paul Rasmus Dahlin Matt Niskanen Oskar Klefbom Ian Cole Ben Harpur Colin Miller Derrick Pouliot Julius Honka Nicholas Hague, Jesper Sellgren, Ian McCoshen, Lucas Carlsson, Fehervary Corey Crawford Alexander Georgiev Igor Shestyorkin

Look at the pass Pod makes at 1:04 of that video. Instead of driving wide. He pulls up and cuts to the middle stick handling. Makes a cross ice pass for an assist. Not sure you get that he has no mental game? Or that he always has his head down. It was just a point, Lafreniere scored only 1 point in that tournament. They are very close to the same age. You were chastising Pod for his stats. That he did not put up big numbers. But in many circumstance, he was playing against competition older than Lafreniere does in junior. But the same at that tourney.
