  1. Scouting is first and foremost about skills, raw athletic ability. The scouts loved him because he had what you say he does not. It should also be about your work rate, compete level. More ways you can help your team win... Are you just looking looking for stats? it seems that way. Which you don't always get playing against guys a year, two and three years older. Depending on the event, or league. He's barely 3 & 1/2 months older than Alexis Lafreniere, Who only had 1 point in this years WJC. And a minor role. He's the consensus #1 overall pick next year.
  2. There have been a fair few players more effective than Pav? Obviously Gretzky was mesmerizing beyond any description. Man, who was ever more a pure adrenaline rush? Fluck he was fun to watch! But were in for such a treat with Elias Pettersson. He breaks ankles like Datsyuk, drops backhand dimes like Hank Sedin and still shoots as good as anyone not named Ovechkin. That said... Who is the closest to Pavel Bure, in todays game? Kucherov has the speed, and is pretty slick. Not quite the power? The Hughes brothers are also going to be sic! Maybe MacKinnon or Patrick Kane??
  3. 25 years for me next week! Which also means, due to factors outside our control, that its less an issue than it used to be. And in another 25 years, there will also be pills? We still won't need Art...
  4. When he's a rookie? Absolutely the coach will be looking for favourable match ups for him. And after an icing. And when a top opposing D takes a penalty. And when a player is injured, or playing injured. And, and, and... Its one of the cool things about good coaches & hockey. But lets be fair? Podkolzin was reported as a consensus top 3 overall pick for much of the year.. All those scouts and commentators were seeing something you, as a fan, are not seeing. Has the type of explosive acceleration, power and strength to beat players 1 on 1. He will, MOST DEFINITELY also embarrass more than a few NHL D. https://dobberprospects.com/consolidated-2019-nhl-draft-rankings-top-130-january-2019/
  5. Income is income? Except when its brought in a wheelbarrow by some mafia guy. I agree, some states have much lower tax burdens. I have never heard of a salary bonus being in a tax shelter. I could be wrong. But I cannot think of any reason it would bit have to be reported as income. This was my first google on the subject; ''So a $5,000 signing bonus would be more like $3,000 take home pay. Specifically from Turbotax: Note this is only federal tax. You will likely have to treat the bonus as income when you file your taxes for the year you receive the bonus. This may result in a different actual tax rate than the withheld rate. This gets complicated for the above reasons and may be different for everyone.'' LOL, it was in an online forum. The funny part some guy named Grandmaster chastising others early in the conversation. https://workplace.stackexchange.com/questions/31412/signing-bonus-tax-question But it was your statement. I'll leave it to you as to whether you want to back it up...
  6. Dyu reckon their signing bonuses are less subject to income tax? Maybe in Russia...
  7. Vas is a very good goalie. But he's not the 2knd coming of Martin Brodeur IMO. So few goalies play at an elite level for 6 or 10 years straight. See Jonathon Quick, a once fantastic goalie? I have a hard time justifying Vasilevski at $76 mill. I had a hard time justifying Luongo at $64 mill. A Vezina winner, $9.5 mill? Fine, 4 years!
  8. We have 31, going on 32 teams. Some team defences are watered down. Cap problems, so they have slugs many tears on their bottom pair; Toronto? Many cannot find right shot defenders & the cannot clear the puck on their backhand; Philly until this year? More are big, fast & physical. But cannit handle the puck with their head up; Gudbrandson? Some are old. Some are slow. Some just never had any lateral agility. Could get turned inside out... Phaneuf? Bartkowski?? Andy MacDonald??? Brandon Manning! Mark Stone? Hell even good defenders get beat by guys with no more speed than, say, Podkolzin Matthew Tkachuk... He'll walk plenty of guys.
  9. Be great to have Tryamkin join us again at the end of the KHL season! In time for a ply off run! Would also be a way to throw a signing bonus at him against any IR we have at the time. He could double his income for the year just to help encourage his return...
  10. Correct thanks. Lets say in 2 years we’re in cap trouble? We would have no trouble trading Bo Horvath for value to make cap. Loui Ericsson? Diff story. Marleau’s contract paid a first because it was pre agreed he would be bought out. Marceau himself would have blocked, he had an NMC, a move to teams not named SJ. Might have considered nearby LVK or Anaheim. But it why does rebuilding Anaheim want Marceau, same for Kings? Certainly not for $6 mill. Remains to be seen if SJ even offers 38 year old Marceau a min salary? And the Knights cannot afford cap of their own.
  11. PP!=131 Miller Boeser Horvat EPshoothome Hughes PP2 32 Ferland Gaudette Baertschi odd man out Pearson Myers Edler Horvat Miller Edler Stecher Sutter Beagle odd man out Motte Benn Tanev
  12. Who were you going to play instead? > Sautner and Biega? > Pouliot & Phillip Holm? >>> Sbisa & Phillip Larsen? >>>>Andrey Pedan & Taylor Fedun? >> Bartkowski and Janik Weber? > Ryan Stanton & Adam Clendenning??? LOL, I think I might have to revisit my support for Benning...
  13. LOL, that singer is really Mark Messier reliving life, forever young, with a full head of hair...
  14. I was pretty proud of this post when I wrote it? $2.75 mill... What do I know?
  15. Just imagine if could really do this? These fantasy leagues are so much fun because of it, thanks @Master Mind !
  16. Canadiana at its best... Year 7 in Winnipeg, one of our teachers was a friend of their manager. They played a lunch dance, called a sock hop, as a fund raiser. For a girl's family who's daughter, our classmate, tragically passed away. I don't think this song was out yet. But its my favorite. There was I, trying to get my first kiss! Asking everyone to dance?
  17. Maroe's got the flow! We got a free body at the deadline, Ristolainen. So we'll play in the now. Ben Bishop. Yoo hoo, @kj29
  18. Hamonic & Brodie, yeah. They would have to have some value. But they do have prospects who could slot in to these positions. Still? Pretty big shoes to fill. I can see them letting Rittich hold out. He probably wants something approaching a starters salary. When he's not really? They wont sign him till Tkachuk is on paper. LOL Tkachuk's dad was legendary for being a #&%$! Demanding what he felt HE was worth with no thought for his team.. Buy out Michael Stone. It saves $2.33 mill. Sweat Rittich until he signs a show me deal around, or under, $2 mill.
  19. Fair comment. The hardest part for casual fans? Scouting is based, should be anyway, first and foremost on skills, raw athletic ability = potential. How those reflect in numbers is supposed to be the domain, of understanding, of scouts. Fans rarely see prospects live, in drills at practice, the gym? But feel justified in stance based on statistics. Stats, are getting more sophisticated. Better outliers of inherent skill. Zone exits, blocked entries, shot suppression, quality pf competition. But it still should rest with who has the most skill.
  20. I know I balked at paying a 1st plus for Benn (actually a lot more than a 1st plus)? Got to hand it to Pmalina for getting some value. Plus Gudbrandson!
