  1. No you are not really? Of course they would prefer the money up front. And in contract bonuses. Which have to be paid regardless of lockouts. But there is reason to madness. The specific clause is in the last year of an RFA's contract; to retain rights the players team has to tender a 1 year qualifying offer for 10% higher than the base salary of the previous contracts last year. So Meir signed a 4 year deal averaging $6 mill. With a $10 mill salary the last year. So unless the team declines to qualify him? Meier is going to make $11 mill the year after. After which he is UFA. So if the team wants to keep they have to pay possibly even higher than the UFA market, on a long term deal. It delivers huge leverage to the player at the end of an RFA deal. A tactic successfully used by Ryan O'Reilly.
  2. I agree 100% with the first part of this bolded statement. I am not convinced of the second. Green was on record with Boeser being a good overall forward. He used the ''he gets it'' line more than once in his 2 years. Not that we expect him to fly in, fore check, crash bodies. Then get back abd back check, if a breakout makes its way through intense pressure. No Boeser is not that kind of back checker and his line does not have that kind of defined role. But in the context of getting back & covering his man. From his spot in Ovetchkin alley, if we turn over the puck? Boeser is a details forward and handles his assignments. I do believe we will challenge San Jose for 3rd in our division. Particularly if they decide to let Joe Thornton move on, after losing Pavelski. I believe the Central division will take up both wild cards. I call 50/50 on us making the play off's. Maybe even better? We added considerable size to the D that started last year, plus some pucks skill. And we will be fun to watch, and cheer for with Hughes creating tempo. All these hard forwards (Ferlund, Miller, Bo, Roussel, Pearson, Leivo, Jake, etc) winning battles & some fast ones, Gaudette, Motte, Sutter, Jake again creating pressure. I love the pressure game.
  3. Meier, I agree btw might be the best comparable, is yes, $6 million. But with $10 mill the last year, which means they have to qualify him at $10 mill a year. And with arbitration rights. Add the 5th year at $10 mill / 5 years = $34 mill or $6.8 mill AAV and UFA at the youngest possible age. You come up with the same figures. Meier is more physical, but I do not agree better. If JB gets Brock at 4 x $5.5 mill I say job well done!
  4. Comparing potential? Its not ridiculous. We're buying what 23 to 27 year old Boeser will be. Not 20 year old. Potential impacts what players get paid all the time. All the time! Odd's, if we use that term again, are he gets paid somewhere in between a 55 point player. And the 70 point plus player those results extrapolate to? ie a middle ground similar to 62 point Nylander getting $6.75 mill. Maybe slightly higher. Mayne slightly lower if Benning is a good negotiator. Paying as if he had already produced 75 or 85 points two or three straight years would be ridiculous. That would be $8.5 or $9.5 million.
  5. Good luck with that. If you negotiated for a living, on behalf of Boeser? You are not using a 55 point comparable. Ask 30 times, you will get knocked back 30 times. That's how to do math. Odds = zero. He's going top get paid like a top line forward.
  6. In a perfect world, you might be right. But it is a negotiation. And his numbers extrapolated over a year are already 65 to 73 points. And approaching forty goals. Nylander had 60 points and 22 goals. His pact, hailed as a bad one, was $6.75 mill. The year before, with 15% lower cap, Pastrnak also got $6.75 mill. But with more accomplishments. You can say we couldn't sign him based on what he has not produced? His camp will say, and math says more often than not they would be right, his best years are ahead of him. I think it is fair for his side to suggest he will improve. And we are buying those years in his prime. FTR my own projection is a 6 year deal for $6.75. I would love to see those 4 year $5.5 pacts, with his contract expiring RFA. Those are my two most likely outcomes.
  7. Can this heat... If I had money, I tell you what I'd do...
  8. There once was fire? Simple trade; Goldobin for 2015 14th overall pick right handed PMD Julius Honka. > We're suddenly deep at forward. > Improved but not owning great depth at RHD until Woo arrives. > Or before Chris Tanev leaves...? We may be moving passed reclamation projects. Honka was great in the WHL with Swift Current, strong but not spectacular in the AHL. https://www.eliteprospects.com/player/65456/julius-honka https://www.tsn.ca/report-dallas-stars-are-trying-to-trade-d-julius-honka-1.1336367
  9. Someone got more than his goalie! Atta boy!
  10. Jarret Stoll's local in Yorkton? Bamba was a ''unique'' poster here on CDC. From what I can gather, an Oil rig worker twice or thrice banned for lving a good CDC debate...
  11. I did not predict anything? I made the point he was a mcuch better offensive forward than Horvat. And correct, we disagree. I don't see Boeser as a manic checker. But I don't see him as sluggish. Nor did Green, who made the point ''he gets it.'' He's not a liability and plays a solid game. Call it my opinion.
  12. 3/4 Thru last year they made the point Gaudette was now part of our best roster. So he stayed up. We have more depth now? So it may no longer be the case. But I will be surprised if he is not on our opening roster.
  13. I agree with this. I also suggest some other things I agreed with Benning on? I liked the Gudbrandson acquisition. Did not work as well as planned. But that happens... He was always doing what he thought was best. Including going ''budget'' a few years, to let the weak stuff make its way through the pantry. Burmistrov was beat out of a job by Megna? They did not admit they were in rebuild mode. But come on? We signed Matt Bartkowski to replace Bieksa FFS. And we had the start of our lottery picks!
  14. The difference maker will be if Juolevi can be a class puck handler, solid defensively. We know Hughes can inject tempo. If Edler and Tanev, both get moved to 2knd pair duty, we'll actually be better than doubters think. They have handled top pair functions for 5 & 10 years.
  15. The good news is he stayed reasonably healthy this year. Easy guy to cheer for, A small player who is fiercely competitive, plays hard, and is skilled. I hope he can recover the jump, that gave him a gear, and agility, opponents could not handle. He's been missing it coming off dual year long knee injuries. Good luck!
  16. The Ed Sheeran of the Psychedelic 60's...
  17. It is fair to see Horvat is a harder checker. Is a physical handful. Commendably plays the game with spirit! Plus he's a pivot, and takes draws. Most in the NHL and wins them. Pretty valuable. I believe that is where it ends. Boeser is still a very responsible defensive player using positioning, body strength. He's 210 lbs. Always between his man & the net, his man & the puck. Does not take shifts off. Still a guy the coach can rely on! He is also flat our better with the puck. Horvat tries to bull past D. But if he cannot? Chips & pushes it into the corner and ties it up. Tries & wins a share of his battles? Brock simply protect the rubber, dangles and hold guys off. He gains the zone with possession. A key guy for zone entries. Makes plays with the puck. He then uses smarts & body position to slip away from checks. He's dangerous, you cannot leave him alone once he gives up the puck. You turn your head defensively? He's backdoor. Or in Ovi's slot, at the top of the opposite circle. Ready to unload that howitzer. Gets it off quickly picking corners at will. Boeser was 0.81 points per game while playing coming off injury this year. 0.89 points per game last year. Both better than any year put up by Horvat. A significantly more effective offensive player. Looks every bit like a guy who will be a 70 point & 40 goal man when he plays full seasons. 80 or 100 points approaching 50 goals as he develops. As the Canucks also improve with him, move to a game played at pace. You are under rating Boeser IMO.
  18. I feel we have progressed further ahead of Edmonton. May & probably have caught Arizona (yeesh) who added Kessel. Las Vegas & Calgary are going to compete for the division title. I feel we will fight Arizona & San Jose for 3rd place in the division. Too early to call at this stage. But I feel we are ahead of Arizona, behind San Jose if they re-sign Thornton. They still have the best D in the league? Even if a step behind last year... It will be beneficial if Thornton does not re-sign with them? I would then call us favourites for 3rd place in the Pacific. Calgary Las Vegas Vancouver * San Jose Arizona LA Anaheim The real competition is the Central division. St Louis, Nashville, Dallas, Colorado & Winnipeg are all play off shoe in's, assuming Winnipeg does not implode with Finnish players out duelling Juolevi on Fortnight? I feel Chicago is a step ahead of anyone vying for 3rd in the Pacific. I feel the Central will have 5 play off teams. Minny will miss here. Dallas St Louis Colorado Nashville Winnipeg Chicago Minnesota
  19. This is near perfect imo I will differ from most? I would have Baer top line & Miller 2knd line. Extra speed, dangle and puck class. But it would change a lot. Miller or Ferland top line on the road, or as a bigger body was needed for match ups. Remember, he was a top 15 drafted skill set. Part and parcel, Ferland is the perfect 3rd line wing. Can play 2knd capably. And first if called on. Cudo’s to Jim for bringing him in at 3.5 mill. Miller the perfect 2knd line player capable of plying first. i was against signing this player. But that was based on reports the ask was 5 or 6 years to $5 or $6 mill, or higher. We waited for the secondary market. And scored Ferland at a very fair price!
  20. Beagle Horvat 2knd Gaudette 3rd That is the way defensive assignments would be deployed. Does Macewen play C? not a bad nhl option for injuries...
  21. LOL, I used to roar! It is still so good though...
