  1. I do agree short term? (!) But Colorado does not need to rush. Rantanen, Landeskog & MackInnon are not going anywhere, anytime soon. Its one of the leagues good young teams. Ultimately, Byram and Makar should both be the equivalent of Barrie. And both more physical, and better defensively. Its fine long term. For that matter they also have Girard, Barrie's left handed mini me. Their speed from the back end will miss Barrie, but its stronger than ours, even with Hughes & them without Barrie. They also landed Donskoi, Burakovsky. Have Compher. They have speed and talent three lines deep up front! I suspect they were in on, but missed on a depth or defensive D man. Which is probably a critical part of the balance of their off season. Erik Johnson is an Edler, even more physical and have Zadorov, admittedly a bit clumsy as defensive D. I heard Johnson will miss the start of the season. Yes, no doubt, they still want to work on that? Colorado is a team to watch!
  2. The Avs have dynamic young forwards. Timmins & Makar + Bowen Byram to keep the puck moving up ice from the D to replace Barrie.. And with less defensive risk than Barrie. It may take a year but that's fine. They got one of the leagues best 3rd line centres, really an absolutely ideal 2knd line match up centre. He's not the ideal young captain Bo Horvat is? And he is a sh!t. But he is not far behind talent wise. Might not even be far? He is a two time 30 goal scorer, and has hit 60 points in the NHL. Only 15 months ago. Bo has only done one of those things. You are under rating Kadri.
  3. Kadri can play match up, hard minutes against both big and fast pivots. I am not talking about his cheap shots. Its also a good trade for Colorado. He's a good defensive forward. Kills penalties. He is exactly what Colorado needed. And they had a need to help them win in the now. We also already traded away too many futures to get Miller. What were we going to do. Trade them Brendan Gaunce? Brandan Sutter?? Toronto desperately needed Barrie. Curious who will play defensive minutes there? Marleau is also gone. Nylander may be in for a sudden shock, change in core assignment? But they have the ability to make a further trade. For now maybe they have a 3rd line Kerfoot Nylander Kapanen. Just try and out gun opponents? As an aside, I do like a component of their move with Ottawa to acquire 6'6'' shot blocking and punching beast, decent defensively Ben Harpur. Underrated move. I have met him. He's a nice guy. Does not like the fighting but he's good at it. And is doing what he needs to, to be an NHL player. He'll be a great depth D man for them.
  4. I have posted, more than twice on Benn, 20 plus times on Myers? He was the best target for us in free agency. Not perfect. But speed, skill, size, although he should use it more. A 40 point 6'5'' RHD? And for a fair price considering its UFA. A And I love Jordie Benn. Love it!
  5. A big thanks to the negotiating crew & agent Tylez who worked late into the nights in the negotiating period. We think we had a very logical amount of money and role, pitch, to attract smart targets for our team. Especially grateful to have worked with legitimate backup Casey De Smith at a good price, when we were running out of money. We believe perhaps he bought into the improvements we were making to our team? Regardless, thanks! We're extremely pleased to adding Joe & Zdeno as key leaders. Nick Bonino by trade. It gives us a full roster, cap compliant & quality at the right depth at every position. We're still hoping to be in on some prospect UFA's to deepen our pool! It is likely we will go to camp, ideally with one or 3 more prospects, but as a whole with this roster. Give it a chance to win. We feel we have a team that will compete, and likely join the post season. Own some depth to make hockey trades if GM's wish to be in touch.
  6. Six 30 goal seasons and 11 straight 20 goal seasons is pretty good dang good. What was Gardiner (Mike)'s record > 15 straight 20 goal seasons? 0.89 points per game those 11 seasons. Equates to 73.54 points per season. Has the identical 0.89 pts / game across 87 post season games. You are right, remarkably durable & consistent. Better than I gave credit for. And ten years without missing a game is insane! Thanks for your post.
  7. Edmonton Oilers Front office budget; $25 million on minor league budget. Balance $20 mill player relations. Oilers had a great draft; Alex Turcotte, Alex Romanov, Matthew Robertson, Nolan Foote, Ilya Nikolayev, Yegor Spiridinov, Martin Fehervary & Albert Johansson. And are having a decent off season; re-signing Ian Cole & picking up UFA's Matt Niskanen, Jakob Lilja, Joakim Nygard & Jesper Sellgren. Acquiring Alex Wennberg & Colin Miller by trade. Current Oilers Depth Chart; Henrik Borgstrom Alex Wennberg Patrick Kane Robbi Fabbri Frans Nielson Brendan Perlini Joakim Nygaad Oskar Sundkvist Marcus Foligno Jakob Lilja Lias Andersson Colton Sceviour Sam Gagner Rasmus Dahlin Matt Niskanen Oskar Klefbom Ian Cole Ben Harpur Colin Miller Derrick Pouliot Julius Honka Corey Crawford Alexander Georgiev West Coast Eagles; Tyler Benson Rasmus Asplund Grigori Denisenko, Ryan Kuffner Nick Paul Nicholas Halloran Justin Kirkland Curtis Lazar Deven Sideroff Axel J Fjallby Ivan Morozov Linus Olund Martin Ferhervary Nicholas Hague Jesper Sellgren Lucas Carlsson Noel Hoefenmayer Ian McCoshen Filip Berglund Igor Shestyorkin Unsigned Propsects; Martin Fehervary, Gustav Lindstrom, Alexander Romanov, Matthew Robertson, Albert Johansson, Alex Turcotte, Nolan Foote, Ilya Nikolayev, Yegor Spridinov
  8. Everyone, see McCann most recently, gets a quick boost in stats if they get a chance to play with Syd & Gino. Just like guys magically perform when they arrive on a line with Patrick Kane in Chicago. Galchenyuk has speed, and underlying puck skills. I believe this will make him productive right away! But I don't see the same talent in Zona as Pitt for Phil. I wonder if he's (still) good enough to put up 80 points on his own?
  9. Someone else did a proposal to sign Phaneuf. Jordie would be sooooooo much a better option. Perfect 6/7 D man! Rugged, can actually play D, can shoot. Will drop the mitts and protect people, but in a legitimate hockey player. BC boy to boot.
  10. Ouch, Phaneuf? He cannot skate, has not been able to move the puck or defend for 2 to 4 years now. Not recommended.
  11. Not my favorite. I want speeeeed, or puck control way more than a cement head...
  12. Boston is da sh!t! Timo Meir Mika Zibanajed Alex Radulov Cody Eakin Joe Pavelski A David Perron A Nikolaj Ehlers William Nylander Robbi Fabbri Dmytro Timashov Mark Jankowski Nic Dowd Cedric Paquette Jordan Martinook Joakim Nygaard IR Nolan Patrick Travis Sanheim Alex Pietrangelo C Noah Hanifin Brady Skjei Martin Fehervary Erik Johnson Linus Ulmark Craig Anderson List of waiver eligible players on NHL rosters; Oliver Kylington, Adam Fox, Tristan Jarry, Isaac Lundestrom, Henrik Borgstrom, IR Juuso Valimaki Possible call ups this year; Ben Harpur, Yegor Korshkov, Chad Krys, Lucas Carlssson, Jakub Lauko, Stretch call ups Tarmo Reunanen, Rob O'Gara, Johan Sodergran, Bowen Byram Top prospects: Bowen Byram, Juuso Valimaki, Adam Fox, Isaac Lundestrom, Oliver Kylington, Martin Fehervary, Jakub Lauko, Breakout candidates: Adam Fox, Henrik Borgstrom, Timo Meier, Tristan Jarry, Linus Ullmark Rebound candidates: William Nylander, Robbi Fabbri
  13. They would have matched a $4 mill offer, for Kapanen for example. But yeah, if the player feels he wont get the offer. Wont have any leverage.
  14. The key is Petey's progression to a 100 point scorer, Brock 40 to 45 goals & Hughes55 to 65 point D man. If that is in their (near) future), we're a chance of being a strong team, even a contender albeit a stretch.. Miller and Myers are just the wheels to that race engine, Roussel & Edler the chasis.. Which keep you upright and turning.
  15. Yeah, misguided cap dump.Even more misguided play a play off D man. I think the day after paid someone to take his contract? Duchesen was traded, Colorado did an about face. Yup, Green. Life would be different? But we should have moved Corey Perry's contract instead of Johnson. Live and learn. It took a while to recover. We'll go ok moving forward....
  16. What are our odd's? Hughes, if as advertised, can have a massive impact on the team. Injecting a high tempo game style could add 25, maybe goals. Perhaps cost 10 or 15 with a few more turnoversas well? Particularly if we start using many of our faster forwards to harass the puck. Like Hansen, Kess & Burrows used to do. Motte, Jake, Pearson, Bo, a healthy Sutter, Gaudette... Add Miller in. He will join Roussel to add ferocity in board battles, net front presence and the fore check. Then also add a component of the cycle game. Miller could also impact in an extra 10 or 15 goals. Maybe more > Petey could score 40, Brock 35, him 22 or 23? But 15 goals with his addition? Added to the tempo game Hughes brings? I was not a fan of trading a first and 3rd for Miller. I do believe he will help place us in contention for post season. Add a decent D man? Sprinkles of Juolevi as the year progresses. I think we will finish somewhere between 7th and 10th in the conference. 2 years from now is when the magic starts. Projected time for Hogberg, Podkolzin, Lind, Madden, Woo & Gadjovich. Hopefully Juolevi & Lockwood sooner. Not all will make it? But that should be a really good push! But we may sandwich a step back for the 2020/21 season between growth this year and 2021/22. 2021/22 is when we do damage, if things go to plan!
  17. I read an article, prob 2 plus years ago? This strategy of speed and skill up front. While closely related to working with the coaches on a game style? Including a forwards role in the defensive end. Where D hold position, forwards chase pucks. Was anchored in draft strategy. Small forwards, and D who were not the prototypical PMD's, could be had without using premium picks. Many of their forwards, notably point, were bargains. Back in the days of Andrej Sustr. But it has seemed to shift. This D line up all took carefull investment to improve the puck skills from those days.
  18. I looked at Carolina. They could hit 7000 points?
  19. Actually, we were a bit sorry to see u go... Too easy for other divisions!
  20. Boston draft recap? We traded our first for Joe Pavelski. Not too much more needs to be said. But of course I'm going to! Pavelski & the trade addition of backup Goalie Linus Ullmark (we had 10 backup goalie points last year) should vault us to near 6000 regular season points. A top 5 team, and should finally pass our nemesis Florida for 2knd place in the division. Of course we will have to stay active, he's a great GM and will have plays of his own... Which is the magic formula for getting out of the 1st round. Maybe we can also beat Carolina? But 1st round on, we'll be more focussed on play off players. Much will already hit the fan by then... We had career years from 1C Zibanajed & Draisaitl. Their teams, may, or may not be postured for play off results. Both real life Edmonton, more so NYR and Flyers, all of whom we have strong hands with. NYR and Philly the most improved teams in the NHL pre July 1 IMO. We expect to play those cards at the deadline. Recently, we had a ton of (Five plus) inquiries asking to pay Adam Fox, NYR's first (likely a high lotto pick) and Zib for aging, in some case declining veterans. We'll also play these cards now? Happy to discuss business. But Zibanajed is a 75 point 1C who also hits, blocks shots. Has higher CDCPuck points than some top veterans I was offered. NYR's will be contenders in 2 years. Feel free to inquire but expect to negotiate in good faith please... Feel free to also inquire about top prospects Adam Fox, Juuso Valimaki, Oliver Kylington, Ryan Johnson, solid young players Eriksson Ek. But expect to pay fair quid for a roster player, who has value to make cap work. And we really only want play off players, retention a key factor, in return. We also feel its fair we will get rebound years from Nylander & Robbi Fabbri. Natural progression from players like Henrik Borgstrom, 50 points plus(?), Eriksson Ek will have a bigger role. Valimaki & Adam Fox will make their real debuts. If a lot of cards go well, we could challenge Carolina for first in division? (Prob some work to do, luck to play out...) The draft itself 1st round = traded for Joe Pavelski 2knd round = D Ryan Johnson, and we scored a 1st rounder to boost our pool (trade bait)! 3rd round = John Farinacci & G Hugo Alnefelt. John is a hit or miss guy wi scoring upside, we desperately needed a good G prospect. Both went 3rd round. 4th round = 2knd round selected Simon Lundmark. How did that happen, we ended with a 1st, 2knd, two 3rd round selections without a first? 5th round = Took punt in 2knd year eligible 6'6'' G Erik Portillo. He was snagged 3rd round. So we scored, net a 1st, a 2knd, 3 3rd round assets +Pavelski for our picks. We also snagged Russian factor draft fallers Kiril Slepets & Daniil Gutik. Both high upside players if they ever surface in NA. Slepets went 5th round this year, Gutik passed.
  21. Impressive that you accumulated so many picks, while being a contender. The Cutty Sark would have been on fire near you. I like Norlinder.
  22. Fans never understood the negative value of his 12 year deal. Or that Lou himself, like Kesler, had an agenda which complicated things when he wanted to be traded. I would have preferred to trade Lou and keep Schneids. But I agree wholeheartedly, that we got a good deal. On trade day, my comments were along the line of I'm pretyy happy considering the situation we were in. With the benefit of hindsight, it was much better! Horvat is the cats ass! Gillis should also get some cudo's, after many knocks for his drafting. I wanted Nichushkin. So did many / most? And he hit a home run with Bo. Some of Gillis's best work.
