[Trade] Canucks Trade Luongo to the Panthers
Maniwaki Canuck replied to Alex the Great's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
I'm glad for Luongo's sake that he got to go home. He has been horribly disrespected in Vancouver and deserves out of this mess. It's not a great return, but we're going to be fine in goal going forward with Lack. -
[Rumour] Team1040 Doug Maclean
Maniwaki Canuck replied to davinci's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
That may be the only scenario that could save this rumour, but I still think it's a pack of lies. The way Torts was talking about Kesler being checked out was too straightforward and business as usual to me. If there was really something up, he'd know about it and be more evasive, I think. -
[Rumour] Team1040 Doug Maclean

Well so much for the rumoured trade that was only awaiting the end of the Olympic freeze to happen. So much bs out there, and it's only going to pile up higher over the next 10 days. -
[Trade] VAN Dale Weise to MTL
Maniwaki Canuck replied to Strombone1's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
This is an excellent move, both short and medium term. We move a player we can easily replace for one that plugs a gaping hole in our D. With 3 right-shooting D currently injured, bringing in someone to fill that position makes complete sense unless we want to tank this season intentionally. That Diaz is a puck-mover who can play 18 minutes a game is a big win for us. He might turn out to be a rental or he might not. If he really can make a difference in us getting out of our zone and perhaps distributing the puck on the PP, then I expect he'll be sticking around longer. Sad thing is that if this experiment is successful, it increases the chances of Tanev being dealt. I really don't want to see that, but if the return is there, well then ... -
[GDT] Vancouver Canucks vs Edmonton Oilers 7PM Jan 27th
Maniwaki Canuck replied to Alex the Great's topic in Canucks Talk
That's right. -
Agreed in the abstract but this is a time when he can actually have a chance to play in the top six with Hank down, so I'm glad to see him jump in. We need to see how Schroeder looks in a 2C role on this team. Not that I expect him to start there (3C is way more likely until Dalpe cools off). But we need to see what he can do with some quality linemates.

[GDT] Vancouver Canucks vs Edmonton Oilers 7PM Jan 27th

I'm guessing that we wll, after Sullivan's complementary comments about his play in Abbotsford and saying that he is an option for tonight's game. Edmonton is the kind of team Schroeder could play well against. Hope it happens. -
Kassian making a case for himself

Who scored our last goal? Nice try though. -
Time to turn the page. Last night, everything that could go wrong did. Today's a new day and a different opponent so I hope the guys just clear their heads and play the game right.
-
Yeah, he even looks like he can skate on some of those goals. Just goes to show that Junior isn't the NHL.
-
Still like Archi a lot, but I have to agree that last night was a missed opportunity to make a physical statement or two. A few days back, Torts publicly intimated that he doesn't think Archi is necessarily ready. Last night may only have underlined that. Hope not because I like this player.
-
For sure the new system is a factor, but I've noticed it for a bit longer than Torts has been here. It's like he's trying to play somebody else's game, maybe because our D don't seem to have well-defined roles any more. But you're right about mistakes being more noticeable than the kind of solid play we're used to from Hammer.
-
My thought exactly, OP. When the bully gets his chops busted, he's never the same again.
-
Yeah, Hamhuis is not the same player he was during his first 2-3 years here. Ever since the playoffs last year, he's lost that steadiness and reliability. Not sure how to explain it, but it's for real.
-
The zebras lost control of the game when they didn't call Nolan for charging/kneeing. For the rest of the night, they were trying to get it back, mostly at our expense (i.e. the bs misconducts on Kassian). We either had to take matters into our own hands or take it from LA: better that we fought back and made our own justice, even if we lost. If the league doesn't like it, look no further than the corrupt and incompetent refereeing. The question is now whether LA can stand up to us when we play like that because we beat them physically last night. That's a nice turn-around from how it's been recently, and something I'm willing to sacrifice two points for.
-
Going to be interesting to see if having a bigger lineup with guys like Archie makes any difference against LA and Anaheim. I still think we can beat those teams, but not necessarily by getting into a hit-fest with them. Speed could still pick the two SoCal teams apart, but we're not that fast ourselves any more.

Too Early to call Kassian a dissapointment?
Maniwaki Canuck replied to Go Go Canucks Go's topic in Canucks Talk
I'll confess, I've wanted this thread to die for a long time now. But since it marks the time that Zack got it together on the 3rd line and forced Torts to promote him to the 2nd, I'll do my bit to keep it going. We're seeing the emergence of an impact player, folks. -
I live out east and had to go to bed resigned to another loss when it was 2-0 Pittsburgh. The game felt different from those on the weekend, but I still had to assume we were going to lose. To turn the game around in the 3rd and then blow a 2-goal lead is heartbreaking, so I can understand why people are freaking out. But at least we fought back and did turn it around. There is some heart on this team. The emergence of Kassian and Sestito is a big part of it. Things are going to get better.
-
This is exactly it. We got run out of the rink over the weekend and it was pretty predictable that those two teams would play us that way. We have some young guns to counteract that, and need to give them the chace.

Shannahan should have to make his meals and empty his beadpan.
-
Because it bears repeating that he's an inbred farmer.
-
Me too- he deserves a standing o for what he contributed here and it sucks if we don't have that opportunity.

Booth still drives play very well so I wouldn't say he brings a line down, but his hands aren't up to his salary bracket, to put it kindly. He's 3rd line material on this team but somebody has to go down to the 4th line. Could be Booth but more likely Kassian, going by how Torts has been operating. Both deserve better, but the team needs a good 4th line.
