  1. Thanks for the reply, they certainly are crazy times. Things are a bit more affordable in Victoria, where I live. Most new build condos are still under $1000 per square foot downtown, though high-end units are up to $1300. Detached homes in the core (Victoria, Oak Bay, and the Victoria end of Saanich) are pretty out of reach, but there are still some reasonable prices in Esquimalt, Langford, and Colwood. I'm in my mid 20s myself, and not quite ready to enter the market yet. I'm doing a pretty big career change, I left the Army in 2016 and am finishing my Accounting degree and pursuing a CPA. My Wife is nearly finished her PhD and has some jobs lined up, so our household income will be reasonably high in the near future. That said: I'm watching prices rise so fast I'm afraid by the time we've eliminated student debt and saved a nice down payment, those reasonable prices in Langford and Colwood will be gone.
  2. My first time visiting this thread (I usually stay in Canucks talk and Prospects). Wow, thanks for all the informative posts Harvey! How long have you been in the Real Estate business?
  3. I believe, with his October birthday, he is AHL eligible next year. It's been mentioned on previous pages if you're up fornsome digging.
  4. Granlund is pretty week on the faceoff. I wouldn't be opposed to adding Jake to the PK squad though. It would be nice to find him a couple more minutes each game.
  5. Virtanen doesn't take faceoffs though.
  6. Man, I feel for you Derek. Thanks for giving it your all on the ice for us and your teammates. We'll miss having you out there, good luck in the next chapter of your life.
  7. THW (Pike’s Picks): 21st (final) Future Considerations: 38th (final) ISS: 24th (May) Bob McKenzie: 33rd (Mid-season) Craig Button: 54th (final) The Hockey News: 27th (final) You're right, he didn't fall very far in the rankings. I think management thought he would go in the 20s and were surprised to see him available at 33. I'm guessing our scouts had him around ISS's number.
  8. 9th in points per game, pretty impressive.
  9. It's pretty good, about 8000 capacity and not a bad seat in the house. Food/drink is pretty average though.
  10. Reminds me of Brandon Saad in his draft +1
  11. Exciting to see this moved from prospects to current roster!
  12. The Sedins played respectable D for the better part of the last decade. I'll agree they aren't doing well at it now though.
  13. He is pretty weak on face-offs. I think we're on the same page, for the most part. Maybe I'm over-rating his offensive potential, time will tell. He's a player I'm keeping a close eye on this season.
  14. I hope not, but it will depend on his next contract. Even in the 3+mil range I'd love to keep him as a middle 6 two-way guy capable of 20 goals and making plays. When we are pushing for the playoffs in a couple years his versatility will pay divendens when the inevitable injury bug hits.
  15. His play over the next three years will determine that. Does he build upon his achievements from last season or plateau? 19 goals from a guy who can play all forward positions and play in all three zones is pretty valuable.
  16. Yeah I thought he was another one of those not quite skilled enough for the top 6, not quite gritty or defensive enough for the bottom 6 guys that are so plentiful. He has shown more skill, grit, and defensive awareness than I was willing to give him credit for in his first (half) season here.
  17. He cleared. We got Granlund for a player no NHL team wants on their roster. I have to admit, I was not thrilled about the trade when it happened. I'm very happy to be proven wrong.
  18. Wow, those are outragous numbers for the CHL
  19. Yeah, I noticed some of his passes seemed "too hard". I agree that's not really a fault, better players would have no trouble receiving those.
  20. Pretty dissapointed by OJ so far. I still think he's got pretty high potential, but I'm really expecting to see more by now. On the bright side, I think it's almost a certainty that he is back in junior/Europe this year, which would certainly be best for him.
  21. I've really liked Jake's camp so far. Good hustle, getting involved in plays, skating his ass off, and adding some goals. I'm high on his chances of making the team this year. It'll be interesting to see who is cut once the 'real' team gets back from China.
  22. Maybe he likes Bure's number 10 (7+3) And with 10, and 19 retired, 28 and 37 out of circulation, 73 seem like a nice choice.
  23. Penalty shot in OT, if I remember correctly.
  24. That's the point I was making. If an athlete as fit and strong as Horvat is clinicly obese by some metric, then that metric is wrong. For the record at 6'0" and 223lbs, Bo's BMI is 30.2. Anything greater than 30 is considered obese. So the number of pounds Virtanen comes into camp at is largely irrelevant. What matters is that he is light enough to skate like the wind and have endurance, yet heavy enough to be sturdy and hit hard. Whatever that number is.
