  1. I believe all of the reactions count as a +1 now. Could be wrong on that though
  2. Damn, another game of our AHL team plus one NHL forward line and one NHL D pair up against a full NHL line-up. I don't think playing all these guys over their heads is best
  3. He tested positive before camp started. Had to wait his 14 days
  4. This is the ham theard, I believe you mean Overlards.
  5. He might. Looks like Green wants to try out OEL-Myers tonight. If that pairing is decent, I could see them going with Hughes-Poolman until (if) Hamonic is back
  6. Florida does not have a state income tax, but the Federal income tax of course still applies. So do property, sales tax, etc. It's not quite as lop-sidded as some make it out to be though. An NHL player's income is deemed earned at the location the game in played. So for Tampa only half of their income (okay, slightly more than half with away games in other states without state income tax) is in the lowest tax jurisdiction.
  7. The 2009/10 team had all 6 top 6 forwards score 25+ goals. That has never happened (on any team) since then.
  8. Yeah, "nhltraderumors(dot)me" is not a legit source.
  9. That's a good question. When he opted out of the bubble playoffs, he said there were stretches where he didn't leave his daughter's side 24/7, he slept on the floor in her room. Not a lot of time for training/skating. Now, none of us know if it's the same situation this Fall, but that's a possibility.
  10. Seems to he the MO this pre-season: Nearly full rosters for home games, and an AHL squad with the minimum required number of NHL vets for away games.
  11. The C is supposed to engage on the boards less in the offensive zone, cover the net front, and cover for defencemen when they go to the corner in the D zone, make entries and exits through the middle of the ice, has a higher degree of decision-making responsibilityfor directing where the play goes. Centres have a lot of important duties. Miller takes the draws simply because he's better it and it plays to his strenths. Petey is better at just about everything else a C does. And Miller is better at the increased board-work required of a winger. Miller takes the draw, then plays LW during the play.
  12. That's some schrude work. I was fine with 3x 7.7 but 3x 7.35 is even better
  13. RNH is much closer to a comparable for Horvat than for Pettersson. 60 point, 2nd line + 1st unit PP, all situations type player. If we could land Horvat at 5.25 x 8 years, I'd be over the moon.
  14. I was pondering over policy ideas and this popped into my head: Legislative ammendedment to the tax code of a 10% across the board income tax increase that expires at the end of the 2024 tax year. And a tax credit that fully offsets the increase if you provide proof of vaccination. Don't want the shot? Fine, but then you're paying for all the extra doctors, nurses, and ICU beds we need.
  15. I hope you're doing well 3 weeks in, and I hope you have some good support around you! Booze is a cruel bitch and a fearsome enemy. It's not just 'grit' and 'will power' that's needed to defeat it, we need treatment. What that treatment is will be different for each of us, but I sincerely hope you find what you need. 5 years and 88 days sober myself, I feel you
  16. Ahh, it has been a while since I stopped by here. Miss all my bored CDCers. Haven't had the time to be bored in a little while, but I'm feeling worn out. So tonight I'm relaxing the the bathtub and browsing CDC before bed.
  17. My vote is he went overboard when he was celebrating being back with his team mates the night before. These young guys aren't used to hangovers yet.
  18. I don't think so, but I'd have to dig into the actual treaty. I'm like 70% sure it only applies to US citizens who are deemed US residents for income tax purposes, but it migh be any US resident (regardless of nationality). Petey would have to move to the US and spend his whole offseason there though
  19. Sometimes I wonder if the "hold out" is not a hold out at all. Quinn is just trying to rack up his days as a US resident (after playing in the Canadian Division in 2021) so that the signing bonus he receives on this deal can be eligible for that tax treatment. Remember, the tax year is a calendar year and not a hockey season.
  20. I think Hughes can be done long term and not at a rediculously high cap hit. Why? How signing bonuses are treated under the Canada/US tax treaty. Now, normally any signing bonus is taxed as regular employment income in Canada. But under the treaty, US residents who are being paid by a Canadian firm are taxed at the LOWER of their marginal tax rate, or a flat 15% on signing bonuses. To be eligible for this, Quinn just needs to reside in the US for more than half of the year, and team road trips to the US count. If he resides in Michigan for the whole offseason, plus the regular road trips, he'll clear this no problem. If we want Hughes at 8x8, that can be massively front loaded with signing bonuses. He could easily get a 12+ million signing bonus in year 1 and actually take home 10+ million of it. Invested correctly, that 10+ million bonus will grow enormously over the course of his contract and beyond. Over the course of his deal, that 64 million could easily be worth 80, (after tax!) if the deal is structured correctly. I wonder how much of the hang-up is convincing ownership to let them go wild with signing bonuses.
