Congrats to Lu - moving up in all time wins - Luuuu
Riviera82 replied to gizmo2337's topic in General Hockey Discussion
The bold part I agree with wholeheartedly. The twins should definitely be in the rafters as opposed to Luongo though as they've spent their entire careers here, etc., etc.. I dont necessarily believe that either the Sedins or Luongo belong in the HOF however. For me at least, Luongo is held to a different standard because he was a highly touted "elite" goaltender who was supposed to be our "answer" in net and yet while he was remarkably consistent during the regular season, the playoffs would always be a rollercoaster ride with him. One game he would be unbeatable and the next he would be Markstrom on a bad day. His meltdowns in crucial games have practically become the stuff of legend. -

Yep, I agree with you, the skaters were not good enough in 2011 but that wasn't all that I was referring to. Luongo's body of work in the playoffs was pretty uneven throughout his time here. -

Overall Luongo was no good in the playoffs, that's why I dont want Kirk McLean's number in the rafters. Luongo had some great moments for sure but his level of inconsistency in postseason play was remarkable. He had some very good teams to work with and despite that could only backstop his team to 1 lengthy but failed run and looked pretty bad at crucial times doing it. If there were a 'regular season hall of fame' I'd say say Luongo should go in first ballot along with the Sedins. -
Someone's probably already mentioned this, but when people write/type "would of", "should of", or "could of". The word you're looking for is 'have' or the contraction - 've'. Would've, could've, should've. This is what 'of' looks like instead of 'have' in a typed conversation - Of you ever been to Disneyland? No, I of not. When you were down in L.A. could you not of gone? I could of but I didn't of the time. You should of made the time, you could of gone. I of been hoping to someday. Maybe I will of another chance next time. I hope so, not too many folks of the opportunities you do. I of thought about it a lot. Next time I will of to go. Have and of are not the same. This annoys me to no end.

I'll agree with you on that. Winning a gold at home is pretty special. -

Gotta disagree with you on that one. I'd trade Canada's last 3 golds for 1 cup in Vancouver, but that's just me. The Stanley Cup is without question the more difficult trophy to win as well. -
I think this weather is fantastic. Why anyone in their right mind would want gloomy, damp, and generally miserable weather year-round is beyond me. We get plenty of that as it is. This is why I've never understood why anyone chooses to live in Port Hardy or the Queen Charlottes.

Man, I dont understand a lot of people in this thread. The weather on the south coast is usually mediocre to miserable for at least 9 months out of the year, and yet there's people here talking about wanting more rain and saying that 20 degrees is too hot. F that, we'll get more crap weather than we can handle in a month or so. Summer around here is very temporary, and a good summer is far from guaranteed every year. We should all try enjoying it while we have it, it'll be gone soon enough.

His playoff numbers would have to be ignored then. -
No thanks man, 9 months of rain per year is enough for this guy. Sorry to hear your summer has been lousy too, I guess the crap weather is province wide.
-
This summer has seriously sucked so far. Very disappointed with the weather we've been having on the south coast.

Higgins earned his spot in Utica with his play in Vancouver.

Comfortable with our tandem for now because the Canucks are not yet ready to contend anyway. Let Lack and Markstrom learn and grow together as hopefully the other younger players will do at the same time. Once the team is ready to challenge in the playoffs, if our goalies are a problem then seek out an upgrade.

SCF: (5) New York Rangers vs (6) Los Angeles Kings

Yeah that's 3 times it's happened since maybe the 1980s? And the difference with Luo is that he never outperformed his regular season stats except for his first year. -

That seems to be about it. Unstoppable force vs. Immovable object. Wouldn't be surprised to see several more cups between the two of them over the next number of years. Also, LOL at the Rags. No chance in this series. -
Missing the playoffs, losing in the SCF, the end result is the same, no cup. Personally I dont want the Canucks to be 4 time cup losers before they even win once.

Just my opinion but I think the Kings won the Stanley Cup last night. -

I was just gonna say he looks like he's watched too many Vietnam war movies. Obviously he's a psychopath who's lost touch with reality, I hope they get him before he does anything else. -

What do you mean constantly? 3 times in 43 seasons, lose and then drop off the face of the earth. +1 though. I dont think there's any stopping the Kings now, I know it's only one game but if it takes more than 5 games for them to win I'll be surprised. -

Maybe I'm missing something here but I'm not understanding all the Ranger love on this board. For those of us who remember '94, who wants to see that again? And on the 20th anniversary of when the best team(and officials) money could buy beat our Canucks. No thanks. I might be mistaken but I believe our friend Mark Messier has some token front office job with the Rangers. Who wants to see his name on the cup for a 7th time? Not me. AV deserves a cup because the Canucks fired him? It's true, AV seems like a nice guy and he's a good coach, but he had the best chance at a cup anybody could hope for a few years ago and he blew it. It's not all his fault but he was the coach and he couldn't make the correct decisions which would've allowed the Canucks to squeeze out that 4th win. That guy had high scoring, good defense, ace goaltending (at times), division title and Presidents Trophy winning teams, and all he could manage was one failed cup run sandwiched between 1st and 2nd round knockouts. Now he's in his first year in New York with another shot at the cup and Canuck fans are cheering for him? Obviously I'm not. If he wins with the Rags my question is why couldn't he do it here first? His team only managed 93 points in the weak metro division. Martin St. Louis deserves a cup? Martin St. Louis already has a cup. Dont get me wrong, I feel sorry for the guy because of his mom's passing and all but what does that have to do with hockey? St. Louis had a hissy fit when Yzerman left him off the olympic team, Yzerman then puts him on the olympic team and he wins the gold medal, he then pisses and moans his way out of Tampa because his GM Yzerman hurt his feelings or whatever, and now he deserves another cup? I dont know about that. I do think Lundqvist deserves a cup, his whole career has been great with a team that's mostly been average. I hope he gets traded somewhere else and wins a cup before his career is over. -

Yes, I need another excuse to drive up to Port McNeil again. -
Quit being gullible, you are the problem with this team.
Riviera82 replied to canuckster19's topic in Canucks Talk
People get irritable and therefore negative when they're starving. Long time fans like myself and others are starving for a Stanley Cup, just one. If this team could eventually put their sh*t together, stop teasing the fanbase with these good/great regular seasons but no playoff results and finally get the job done, guaranteed the negativity towards the team from fans and media would evaporate and be gone for a very long time.
