  1. Yes, but without handing out the NTCs we probably wouldn't be able to sign all of theses aces to a "discount".
  2. This thread is depressing. To think that only 5 short years ago we were averaging 3 goals per game while Luongo was posting numerous shutouts. 4 years ago we were scoring at will and blowing other teams out of the building with regularity. 3 years ago we were on the way to the best season in franchise history. 2 years ago we were on the way to the second best season in franchise history. Then there was last year which was ok, I guess... And then there's today...and everything seems to have gone to hell. Thanks Mike Gillis
  3. Anybody know why the 1984 Oilers started the SCF on the road in New York? They were the league champions that year (pre-Presidents Trophy).
  4. Wow, that takes me back to when I was a young boy. HNIC's theme really sucks now.
  5. The above comments are what make the "what are your credentials?" arguments not worth discussing. Anybody could say whatever they want and whether it's true or not they will be ridiculed for it. In reality, I am actually Roland Melanson, and I think Luongo stinks in the playoffs. He wont do anything I taught him.
  6. So by your logic, because the Canucks history of goaltending has been almost completely crap, the fanbase should be content with the Luongo upgrade that has not translated into "playoff success" that we haven't already had? Luongo has been largely responsible for helping the Canucks have some of their best regular seasons in team history. I for one got some pretty high hopes for more (Stanley Cup) because of that. What did we get though? Nothing we haven't seen before. We've had the best regular season Canucks team ever over the last few years with Luongo (more or less) being the centerpiece of it, and yet we continue to wallow in playoff mediocrity. He is supposed to be a superstar, he is supposed to be (arguably) the team's best player, he plays the most important position and was even captain for a time, he is supposed to be elite. Yeah, maybe the team has sucked in front of him at times, but you know what, win in spite of them. Dont roll over and die while letting an opposing team empty a full magazine of pucks behind you. Play like an elite superstar and if you lose, well at least you look good doing it. I know I'd never blame Luongo for that. Sorry I went off on a bit of a tangent there. Luongo is overall the best goalie the Canucks have ever had, but my point is despite that the team hasn't gotten any farther with him than they did without him, in their history that is.
  7. I might be considered a "Luongo hater", but there's nothing I'd like to see more than him be successful. If he is successful than the team would most likely be as well. For now and the last few years, I personally have just lost faith in Luongo at playoff time. Too many blowouts, high GAAs, and low save percentages. In my opinion, in order for Luongo to be elite he doesn't necessarily have to win a cup. If he could string together a few strong showings during the season and playoffs for a couple/few years in a row (preferably until the end of his career), that would silence this critic at least.
  8. So for Quick's first 2 playoffs he was lousy and for the second 2 he was outstanding. For Luongo's first playoff he was outstanding and for the following 5 he was mediocre to lousy overall, on a better team no less. Quick and Luongo aren't in the same league anymore at least in terms of playoffs.
  9. Is Luongo still elite? - One of the top goalies during the regular season while with the Canucks from '07 through '12, including '04 with FLA. - One of the bottom goalies during the playoffs from '09 through '12. - 2010 Olympic Gold winner, and 2014 invite. - Highly paid with immovable contract. - Briefly supplanted by backup goalie. - Retook number 1 status by default. I'd say he ranks somewhere between the low end of elite and the high end of overrated as of now.
  10. My guess would be the goalies that Canada has available right now simply aren't that great. Luongo is for sure one of the top canadian goalies right now and his previous Olympic win probably has a lot to do with why he's been invited to Sochi. You cant really argue with his regular season body of work, that's never seriously been an issue. Again just my opinion but Luongo's only been half-reliable in the playoffs which is what I believe separates him from the truly elite. If he can get his hands on a cup before his career is over then none of that will matter, but until then... I think the team in front of him has factored into what successes he's had so far. If the team had little or nothing to do with it then Luongo would most likely have had more success in his time with the Panthers. I think it's fair to say that when Luongo was traded here, he was an upgrade for the Canucks and the Canucks were an upgrade for him. The Canucks did play a very defensive system in Luongo's first and arguably second season with the team. He was in his prime and did very well but nowhere near the 2.00 GAA and .930 Sv% you believe he could achieve now. Maybe he could do that under Torts but I wouldn't count on it at this stage of the game.
  11. That might explain Luongo's GAA, it isn't always very fair stat to the goalie as the team can influence how many goals they allow. The save percentage however is almost completely on the goaltender in my opinion. If Luongo were a little more elite then perhaps his best Sv% in a Chicago series would be a little higher than .902?
  12. Not scoring on Lu? His career playoff GAA against Chicago is 3.34 with a .893 Sv%. They can score on him just fine by the looks of it.
  13. They're not exactly hand picked, they're half of his playoff career pretty much, which the Lou Fan Club seem to ignore when I have posted them previously. The truth hurts I suppose. Anyways since you asked nicely, here's the other half. The shiny series'. 2007 vs. Dallas 8.48 GP 1.41 GAA, .950 Sv% 2007 vs. Anaheim 5.63 GP 2.31 GAA, .930 Sv% 2009 vs. St. Louis 4.33 GP 1.15 GAA, .962 Sv% 2011 vs. Nashville 6.75 GP 1.63 GAA, .933 Sv% 2011 vs. San Jose 5.46 GP 2.38 GAA, .931 Sv% Note that the first 3 series' in this list are also the first 3 series' of his career. He only posted good numbers twice more in his next 7 career series', somewhat inexplicably in my opinion.
  14. A .916 Sv% isn't dreadful, it's not bad in the regular season and nothing to write home about in the playoffs. Since you appear to enjoy stats as well, here are the numbers from the 5 (half of the) playoff series' in which Luongo looked like he didn't quite belong. 2009 vs. Chicago 5.98 GP 3.51 GAA, .879 Sv% 2010 vs. LA 5.82 GP 2.92 GAA, .893 Sv% 2010 vs. Chicago 5.96 GP 3.52 GAA, .896 Sv% 2011 vs. Chicago 5.71 GP 2.98 GAA, .902 Sv% 2011 vs. Boston 5.86 GP 3.41 GAA, .891 Sv% Scoring has definitely been an issue for a while now, but when a team's highly paid elite goaltender puts up stats like these with such frequency, your'e pretty much hooped. Although we did somehow manage to win two of the above series.
  15. Nevermind the Stanley Cup Final for a minute. I think the bottom line is this. Luongo has started and finished 10 playoff series in his career and has finished 5 of them with sh!t numbers. Granted, in the other 5 he played very well but that's the thing, it's seems he can only be counted on to play well every other series on average. Elite in the regular season yes, in the playoffs no. End of story.
  16. The 8 goals in 7 games gets pointed to so often. Why dont any of the staunch Luo supporters ever point to the 20 goals allowed by Luongo in the 5.86 games worth of time he played, which happened to include his famous 2 shutouts as well. 20 goals.
  17. Game 5 wouldn't have been nearly as important if Luongo hadn't gotten bombed in games 3 and 4. Because he did and we lost in spectacular fashion, yes game 5 became very important.
  18. You understand that a series can be won in less than 7 games, right? Extending a series to game 7 isn't the same as actually winning it. Luongo plays 1 decent road game and there's a good chance the Canucks have a cup in 5 or 6 games.
  19. 17 saves on 20 shots in a winner-take-all game for the championship is not a very good example of "showing up". Period.
  20. What a coincidence. That's Luongo's career playoff save percentage post-2007. Sparkling.
  21. Luongo was replaced by Cory as the starting goalie for game 6 of round 1, how is that incorrect?
