  1. Luongo was very good in that series, no doubt. On the other hand it was the Predators, scoring goals wasn't exactly their strongest quality.
  2. I see. The Hawks were an 8th place team that backed into the playoffs. The Canadiens were a 6th place team that came within an OT goal of beating the champs. The Predators had a Vezina and Norris candidate and very little else, they had trouble scoring at the best of times. The Flyers had 106 points playing in the Atlantic division. The Sharks, perennial playoff no-shows. The Lightning had a hot goalie and lots of offensive talent. I'd say the competition was even at best, perhaps even more difficult for the Bruins.
  3. Perhaps, just maybe, if Luongo didn't post an 8.02 GAA and .773 Sv% in the 3 road games of the SCF, the rest of the team might've been able to muster up the gumption to score a couple more goals and we could've won 1 road game and had the cup in fewer than 7 games. Thomas played at least ok in every game whereas Luongo only played well in 3, 4 if we won game 7. The Conn Smythe belonged to Thomas no matter what happened. There was once another guy by the name of Martin Brodeur, he posted 3 shutouts in a SCF and did not win the MVP, one of them being in the decisive 7th game. The award goes to the most valuable player in the playoffs, not just the final round.
  4. Round 1 Luongo - 2.98 GAA, .902 Sv% Thomas - 2.25 GAA, .926 Sv% Round 2 Luongo - 1.63 GAA, .933 Sv% Thomas - 1.65 GAA, .953 Sv% Round 3 Luongo - 2.38 GAA, .931 Sv% Thomas - 2.73 GAA, .915 Sv% Round 4 Luongo - 3.41 GAA, .891 Sv% Thomas - 1.15 GAA, .967 Sv% Also, for those of you who say that Thomas was just as bad in Round 3 as Luongo was in Round 4, his numbers still ended up being about a full head above Luongo's. Edit: The Vezina trophy has nothing to do with the playoffs and Thomas probably would still win the Conn Smythe even if we had won game 7.
  5. I dont think Brodeur is that good anymore, but he's had way more above average seasons than not I'm pretty sure.
  6. I dont think that highly of Grant Fuhr to be honest. If he didn't have the highest scoring team in league history popping in goals at will then he probably wouldn't have accomplished very much. I'm not going to get into my personal life too much here but yes, I have played some goal before. And yes, I am absolutely certain that Luongo is better than I ever was.
  7. The playoff series' that I brought up are relevant to his playoff career because they are the only full series' he's played in. They were all between 2007-2011. Yes Luongo has played very well in the playoffs at times, but it's true that in half of his full series' played his stats have been very underwhelming. Interestingly, in the first 3 playoff series' of Luongo's career he played very well. After that things went a little sideways and he's since only posted good numbers against Nashville and San Jose in 2011.
  8. Firstly, we really shouldn't need to make a huge 3-4 goal comeback with Mr. Elite between the pipes. Secondly, I guess game 2 against San Jose in 2011. Luongo hasn't been outstandingly good the past two years.
  9. Here's a stat. In the 10 playoff series' Luongo played in between 2007 and 2011, in 5 (half) of them he posted some very unimpressive, far from elite numbers. If we take it one step further, in the 7 series' beginning with Chicago in 2009 through 2011, Luongo posted mediocre to poor numbers in 5 of those 7 series'. Also, I cant speak for everyone but I dont want our stars to fail. The reason Luongo gets chewed on is because he has failed, repeatedly. Being branded as elite and not looking the part far too often.
  10. So the last time we lost a low scoring game with Luongo was quite a while ago then. That's what I figured.
  11. The trouble isn't Lu letting in 2 goals and the team losing, the trouble is Lu letting in 3-8 and the team losing. How many 2-1 or 2-0 games have the Canucks lost in the playoffs in recent memory?
  12. Then I'm afraid that wouldn't be stealing at all. We lost.
  13. Wrong. His entire body of work does not prove that at all. Yes his regular seasons have been mostly very good, but in the 10 playoff series he played between 2007 and 2011, in half of them he posted very ordinary stats. To his credit however, he did post very good stats in the other half.
  14. After his good playoff in 2007 Luongo has a 2.75 GAA and .909 Sv% in 52 games. After 2007 Luongo has a 2.37 GAA and .918 Sv% in 330 regular season games. A very sharp contrast.
  15. Luongo's better in the regular season, always has been except for one time.
  16. Except Kolzig actually put up very good numbers in his cup run.
  17. I dont think anybody's arguing that Luongo isn't a great regular season goalie, he is.
  18. What exactly do the Canucks skaters lack of scoring ability have to do with the fact that Luongo's play on average regresses in the playoffs? This hasn't been a one year issue, this has been a trend for 3 consecutive postseasons following 2007, nevermind the only 4 playoff games he's played over the last 2 seasons which weren't exactly spectacular. The team not scoring, which has really only been a serious issue for the last 3 series, should not have such a noticeably negative impact on Luongo's overall stats. "Crawford is a sieve and played like crap every second game"? Well despite this and all of those supposed soft goals he allowed he still managed to post a 1.84 GAA, .932 Sv%, and win a Stanley Cup. Luongo hasn't finished a playoff with numbers even close to that since '07, and obviously no cup.
  19. Luongo has pretty much always been (and will probably continue to be) an elite regular-season goalie. What separates him from the truly elite and greats from the past is that aside from one season (2007), he hasn't been able to elevate his game consistently in the playoffs. This is why since 2007 he's sporting a playoff GAA of 2.75 and .909 Sv%, a far cry from his regular season averages post 2007 - 2.37 GAA, .918 Sv%. Whatever the other factors may have been in those 5 postseasons (injuries, reffing, etc.), Luongo's game clearly regresses on average.
  20. The Conjuring. Was pretty creepy and kept me very entertained the whole way through, 8/10.
  21. Just finished World War Z a few hours ago. Very entertaining and I didn't look at my watch or think about cigarettes even once. Two thumbs up.
  22. Just saw Fast and the Furious 6 on monday. It was pretty much just crap. 3/10, and that's being generous.
  23. So long AV. Hopefully the new coach eliminates the country club atmosphere the Canucks have come to enjoy and can squeeze the most out of whatever group Gillis will have assembled next season.
  24. Maybe I'm wrong but I seem to remember Christian Ehrhoff being effective immediately.
