Boeser + 3rd (2023 TO) to LA for Peterson + Turcotte + 2nd (2023) + 7th (2024) Saves us around $1.6M-$2M in cap year one - second year we buy out Peterson and he costs us $1M in cap year one and $2M year two. Turcotte is a young player with a tonne of upside. Peterson at least gives us another option/depth in net for one year. We get to draft in the 2nd round and a nice little scratch & win for later. LA gets to save face here. Acquiring a prime 60ish point player for two major blemishes.

The incentive to sign here is huge. We can guarantee him NHL games ($$$) plus it shortens his free agency period by one year. Making a team out of training camp is hard. He is a former 7th round pick with a good college career but it’s not like he is a hobey baker winner. Probably less than a 15% chance or making a new team out of camp. Signing in Vancouver is a no brainer

[Waivers] Pavel Gogolev

Winger? Check Russian? Check Under 25? Check Rutherford must be salivating. Joking aside he had 96 points in 63 OHL games his last year of junior and in the ECHL 69 points in 48 games. First stint in the AHL 12 points in 13 games but overall only 21 in 47. Might have a bit of upside... obviously way too good for the ECHL. Would be a good pickup on an AHL contract. -
[Rumour] Nikita Tryamkin eyeing NHL return

To be honest he would be a nice add for the bottom pairing. Tryamkin and Myers would be hilarious. -

[Report/Rumour] Ethan Bear Contract Talks

I don’t see Arizona getting close to the cap. Nemeth is a $2.5M cap hit and $3.5M salary. Myers is only a $1M salary so we save $3.5M in cap and Arizona saves $2.5M in cash. Myers also returns a mid-late round draft pick at the deadline @50% retained most likely whereas Nemeth is a waiver guy. Other players who we could maybe move Myers for: Driedger - $3.5M cap hit Zack Kassian $3.2M cap hit Mike Reilly - $3M cap hit Nikita Zaitsev - $4.5M cap hit Marco Scandella - $3.275M cap hit Cal Peterson - $5M cap hit Alec Martinez - $5.25M cap hit Radek Faska - $3.25M cap hit -
[Report/Rumour] Ethan Bear Contract Talks

He is a solid #4. Not a guy we should go crazy signing long term but worth bringing back. OEL is the wild card. Hughes I am comfortable with #1, Hronek #2 and Bear #4. Can OEL be a solid #3? Only sold on Schenn as a #7 tops and Dermott’s injuries have soured me on him - I thought he was the ideal bottom pairing guy before. Still might be worth bringing back since he can play both sides. Severson would be a better option than Bear if we can move Myers. Wolanin is great - he might beat out Dermott if we re-sign him. I also was thinking a Myers for Nemeth swap might make sense for both teams - he plays both sides as well but doesn’t beat out Wolanin IMO. Rathbone should also be in the mix. Hughes Severson OEL Hronek Wolanin/Dermott/Rathbone Bear Schenn AHL Johansson Brisebois Juulsen Burroughs -
[Report/Rumour] Ethan Bear Contract Talks

I don’t necessarily agree. I think a two way guy might actually be the best fit. Quinn is heavy offence - he needs a guy who can keep up, handle the puck, and be able to help him drive the play. That said, a pure offensive guy isn’t great either since it will expose them defensively and also take away opportunities. Statistically Bear had been very good Quinn and while a Tanev or Marino (DFD that is mobile) would be best, there aren’t too many of them. Severson might be good. Trade for Parayko? I think Bear does a good job without us having to take another contract that will suck -

18 minutes per game. 14 points 43 games. Best partner for Hughes since Tanev. Do we re-sign him? Absolutely. Do his ice time and point performance scream massive raise? Not really. 1 year @2.8 or 3 years @ 2.5 million per Don’t forget this guy didn’t even make the Hurricane and they essentially gave him to us for free (the 5th rounder was for the cap retention). He will want to stay in Van -
And it’s not like we have been wrong all along or can’t see what success teams have done. The results speak for themselves CDC polls would have done a far better job than Jim Benning at managing this team and the new management is almost as bad

30 minutes before the trade I wrote about how happy I was with new management and then had to take it back it has reached the point where it is almost embarrassing being a Canucks fan after the Hronek deal -

Lekkerimaki + 2nd for Stanley? Might as well since we love overpaying for defenseman.- 62 replies

At the draft I have a hard time seeing him costing this much TBH. If we traded a 2nd I would have been happy. If it was a 1st + 3rd for Hronek and 2nd I would have been OK. This is waaaay too much to give in a deep draft for this player with only one year left on his contract. I would have given up this for Carlo given the years left on his contract and how he is a better fit in terms of player type. Hronek looks like a pure OFD prone to mistakes who can play well with a rock solid partner. Hughes - Bear OEL - Hronek Dermot - Myers/Schenn This is still not a good defense, not even close. We had the opportunity to be patient. Like how we got Bear for a 5th or Ehrhoff for a 4th. Making a knee jerk trade like this given where we are is terrible. If the Canucks were the hottest team in 2023, and 10-1 post Horvat trade and right at the cusp of the wild card it would have made some sense. But given that this season is a throwaway I cannot make sense at all of paying such a premium.

People seem to forget that we didn't just trade Dickie for pointless cap space. Bear was available for a 5th round pick - this was essentially a 3-way deal. We needed to trade Dickinson to make the Bear trade so it looks more like this: To Carolina 5th round pick (VAN) To Vancouver Bear ($400K retained) Stillman Pederson To Chicago 2nd round pick (VAN) I think Bear would have been worth a 2nd at this deadline if we were looking to trade him.

That is not at all what I am hearing out of Detroit. Turnover machine, played well early in the year but has been horrid as of late. They are celebrating and blown away by the return - few Wings dans seem disappointed. if we traded Hughes for a mid 1st and 2nd our fan base would not be happy at all Unless we are a contender next season or he is injured most of the year and we don’t pay a penny over his QO and he comes back strong there is little chance we come out ahead or even on this deal

Ballard, Gudbranson, OEL. Sunk cost fallacy. No matter how bad he is we will pay him big money in the next offseason. Given he is in his prime now, we are a bottom feeding team, and there are a tonne of red flags with the player I can’t see this not ending terribly. Same feeling I had when we made those other three trades Not really seeing much if anything to refute that this isn’t an absolutely horrific trade
