At the end of the day, we want a good, well balanced team. We want skill, grit, offense, defense, goaltending. Who really cares what we give up or don't as long as the end result is a better team. Schmidt was picked up because he could play the right side. It didn't go well and he didn't fit. He wanted out. We now have OEL and Rathbone who weren't in the picture when we got Schmidt. We have 4 right side D who are puck movers. Schmidt was not a solution on the right and cost too much. Now he is gone and we have cleared up 5.95 mill for 4 years with a NTC and we have our 3rd back.

Savard and Ceci would make us a very tough defence. Boy, JB broke out with OEL and Garland and now he is not afraid of anything. Just building the best roster of players he can with players he wants and who want to be here. Who would have even began to guess 10 days ago that we would have cleared out Schmidt, Virtanen, Holtby, Beagle, Eriksson, and Roussel (24.8 million in cap space)? This is a wild ride.

We don't have a forward over 28. We have had 4 straight years with calder votes and likely this year with Podkolzin and Rathbone. We still have Gadjovich, Woo, and Dipietro, plus some other very intriguing prospects. When JB got here he had Gaunce, Subban, and Corrado. Donnie and Dhaliwal should get on with their lives. This is pathetic! Go Canucks Go!

[Signing] Canucks re-sign Conor Garland
Dixon Ward replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
He is now in 135th place for forwards Cap hit in the entire NHL. He was 69th (hee hee) in points per game on a bad team. He is 25 and getting better. Kudos Jim!- 265 replies

That was the turning point in the NHL, when younger players on ELC's started making a big difference and 30 year old's were just too slow to keep up. Many GM's were burned by it. I will say that Loui at least seemed to be classy and a good teammate, willing to do what was asked of him.

Not to mention Ladd and Okposo. None of them were anywhere near worth the money.

[Report] Canucks G Holtby To Be Bought Out
Dixon Ward replied to babalu's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
This is an example of Benning being class. If he kept trying to trade Holtby until the next buyout window, teams would have settled most of their goaltending needs and his market would be much smaller. He has helped his team with cap space and helped the player's career. -
[Rumour] Canucks interested in Jaroslav Halak
Dixon Ward replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
I would like to see Brossoit, but Halak wouldn't be bad for the right price. -
(Proposal) - Schmidt and Holtby to Vegas
Dixon Ward replied to Dixon Ward's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
Fleury's gone and Holtby is being bought out. So, I withdraw my proposal! -
To Vegas Schmidt and Holtby 10.25 mil To Vancouver Roy, Fleury, Korczak 7.725 mil. They get their guy back to round out their top 4. He will help them win games in hockey and softball. They get a much cheaper backup goalie that has won a cup. We get big, young 4th line center. Great backup goalie/trade chip now or at the deadline. RHD prospect. Cap space(if we had to retain 1 mil on Holtby, it would still work) . I think both teams address needs and are better?

Judd Brackett didn't pick him so he can't pan out.

[Rumour/Speculation] Luke Schenn returning to Vancouver
Dixon Ward replied to AV.'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
If Edler's leaving, Schenn would give us 3 Kelowna Rockets again. Myers, Schenn, Bowey. -
[Rumour/Speculation] Luke Schenn returning to Vancouver
Dixon Ward replied to AV.'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
OEL Schmidt Hughes Hakanpaa/Savard/Ceci/Hamonic OJ Myers Rathbone Schenn We need OJ, Sami Salo, Jarko Ruutu and Lumme to talk to Hakanpaa and convince him about the Vancouver lifestyle. This group looks really good to me. Lots of hits, lots of puck movers, lots of interchangeable parts. Also Brisebois and Woo close in Abby when the inevitable injuries start. -
I don't think there is a "ton wrong" with it. I think we need a defensive RHD and a 4th line center. Other than that I love this team as it is right now. Great players, great attitudes and a great future. Maybe get in your time machine and befriend JB and convince him to do what you say. I'll stay here and enjoy my team!
