[Proposal] Vancouver-New Jersey-Colorado
Dixon Ward replied to Hindustan Smyl's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
I think it is a really interesting proposal that makes you think. But I don't think that Colorado would give up a potential number 1 dman for Hischier. I think Makar's value is a bit higher at this moment than the other 2. Just a gut feeling. -
I heard this morning that no team left in the playoffs has a player over 8 million. Of course this year is a bit of an anomaly, but the Oilers and Leafs are in cap trouble without a cup, so I am not sure the load up on a core and have no depth is the way to go. They spread the money around and have success. Petersson, Horvat, Hughes, Boeser, Hughes, Demko/Dipietro Matthews, Tavares, Marner, Nylander, Reilly, Anderson Not many people would say the Leafs are about to win a cup?
-
I know high end skill costs, I just think that I get Krebs or Boldy for that role, while not as good, we don't have to gut our future to do it. We would be like the Leafs, some high end skill but little else.
-
I am not saying he won't be great, but would you give up 2 high 1st rounders, a potential #2 defenseman, and a starting goalie for a potential Kane or Gaudreau? Tuuka Rask is the mvp of the playoffs right now. Gaudreau and Kane were golfing early.
-
I am a little confused. I am not hearing anybody saying that Hughes or Kaako are generational type players. They are clearly the best of this draft, but not McDavid, Crosby types, not to my knowledge. I don't want to see us trade away 4 or 5 key young pieces for 1 guy. What if they turn out like Daigle or Yakupov? It seems like a huge risk and a poor idea.
-
I would not. Boeser is a beast and one of the top 7-8 RW in the league. You have no guarantee that Hughes will be at that level as a center or how long it will take him. We already have 2 great centres. We cannot mortgage the future at this point. I don't hear anyone saying that Hughes is a generational talent, just the best in this class.
-
He can play the right side or always plays the right side. He is a lhd
-
Problem is Meyers is rhd which we need Tryamkin is in a long line of lhd
-
Just so I'm clear, if a dman is the bpa, then take him, but not because he's a dman and not because he is right handed. If you are building a real estate portfolio, you don't buy something because you like the flooring.

This league is all about skating now. We need more speed. I would pick the player that is left at 10 who has the best combination of hockey IQ and speed. I think it might be Krebs at this point, but we will see. I really don't want to pick a defenseman because we lack quality d prospects. I really want the bpa. Our team is set at Goalie, Our team is set at #1 and #2 center, our team is set at #1 RW. Other than that, we don't know what everyone else will turn out to be. Therefore we need to keep adding the best players possible at any position.

(Rumour) Canucks interested in Malkin - **Warning-Eklund
Dixon Ward replied to GB5's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
I would much rather Panarin as a free agent. I don't want to give up assets for Malkin. He is a great player, but Panarin would cost as much against the cap and we wouldn't have to give up anything. I am not saying necessarily we should get Panarin, but I would do that way before trading for Malkin. -
I think we need someone creative, who can create plays and feed shooters. Alot of guys have good shots but outside of Petey, we don't have alot of playmakers. Leivo, Horvat, Boeser, Baertschi, Pearson, can all shoot, and we need to get them the puck. I always wondered why we didn't break up the Sedins to get guys going a bit. They were 2 of the best passers in the history of the game but always played together.
-
Don't want either. Do want Juolevi. I wouldn't agree that he doesn't seem to be working out. He has had some injuries and hasn't become the number1 dman we all hoped for in 2 years, but he is a top 4 defenseman in the NHL for the next 12 years as far as I can tell.
-
This team is in need of more high-end skill and more high-end speed. Trading down for lower pics based on positional needs does not make sense at this point. There is going to be two or three very exciting skilled prospects available at 10. Let's put our faith in our Scouts and our general manager to pick the best one available.

IMHO if Tryamkin truly wants to play in the NHL, the time is now. He should do what he must to get out of his commitment, come to Vancouver and fight for minutes and either force the coach to play him or up his value and get traded. Another year in that far inferior league will not help. He needs NHL minutes in the fastest, most skilled league on the smaller ice surface. He will be 25 in August, and if he waits another year, he will be 26 when he starts trying to prove himself against the best. If I was his agent, I would say, get your a$$ over there and get moving.
-
The thing I like right now about Juolevi is that fans have completely lowered expectations. Now he can just play. Instead of us expecting him to be a #1 or saviour, he can come in and work his way to being a 2-3 defenseman like Edler. That's what I think he'll be. People think he may be a bust but I look forward to him being a key part of our top 4 and logging big minutes for years to come. Pressure's off!

[Discussion] Detroit and Vancouver
Dixon Ward replied to theo5789's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
I don't think, at this point anybody would rank Zadina ahead of Hughes. He did mediocre in the AHL. Hughes was considered the 2nd best prospect outside the nhl by espn and is ranked ahead of Zadina on all of the lists I have seen. So, while they took him last year, they would have to know that Hughes has more value at this point. I think that Byram might go 3rd and if he does, the 4th to 10th is a crap shoot. All the remaining US players and Cozens, Krebs, and Dach, along with Soderstrom, Newhook could all be the best player in this draft 5 years from now. I don't think the Canucks should do this. I would be more than happy with whomever the scouting staff thinks is the bpa. -
I think it's great to see all of these US players doing so well at the U18's. This tourney can be deceptive and the more excited scouts and GM's get about players based on this tournament, the better chance our excellent scouting allows us to take a great players who falls to us because of hype of others.
-
Why would we want to give up a player like Jake for one who needs an 19 year old to cover up his deficiencies? All Risto has done is lose seems like a mis-guided trade to me.
-
I just meant in general we could stop focusing on seeking defenseman prospects for a while and look for high end offensive skills
-
Signing Karlsson if, in a dream scenario, he wanted to play here, would immediately solve our backend. Edler is one of the best #2 guys in the league and could finally play that. Hughes could pair with Tanev to form a great 2nd pair with alot of tools. Stecher/Woo would battle for that spot long term. Leaving room for Hutton. Juolevi would eventually take over for Edler. Everything would be in its rightful place and our depth would immediately be very good. Edler Karlsson Hughes Tanev Hutton Stecher Juolevi Schenn Sautner Woo Brisebois Rafferty Teves Tryamkin? I would go to battle with that top 4. With the inevitable injuries, we have 9-10 legit nhl defenseman. I think, with Markstrom, Edler, and Petersson here, we might just have a chance to land him. Then we could focus on forward I the draft.
-
At 10 BPA. Whoever this sharp scouting staff thinks shouldn't be available at 10. At 40 best rhd, maybe Thompson from Kelowna or again whoever the staff likes. Unless there is someone who drops big and the cant pass up.

Aquilini's yearly letter to season ticket holders
Dixon Ward replied to BCNeil's topic in Canucks Talk
I said exactly that, right, he should have zero to do with it? No, I am just pointing out what a huge ego it takes to put yourself in the center of the picture in an entertainment business. If other owners do it, doesn't make it a good idea. -
Aquilini's yearly letter to season ticket holders
Dixon Ward replied to BCNeil's topic in Canucks Talk
Are you one of his kids? Why so defensive? I am not basing it on the one letter. It's one thing for him to be in the picture but to be in the centre where in the past, the leaders of the Hockey team were, is wrong in my opinion. He couldn't get along with Trevor Linden for god's sake. He has interfered at times to the detriment of the rebuild.
