  1. Aquaman is one creepy guy. The fact that he puts himself in the middle of the team picture is the epitome of arrogance. I have no idea if other team owners do this, but it is gross. He is not part of the hockey team. Studio owners don't go on stage to accept academy awards. Nobody cares about the owner. Get out of the picture. He put himself right in the middle where the captain (Horvat) should be. However, I think this letter is straightforward and truthful, so I'll give him that!
  2. Derek Pouliot 200 NHL games and 124 AHL games. Brogan Rafferty 1 NHL game. I think this is why he gets the benefit of the doubt.
  3. Any news on Juolevi's recovery? When is he supposed to be back to full health?
  4. Woo should be 20-25. No way after this year he would last past 25. Imo that give us 3 1st round picks last year. Woo is a rhd who skates well and hits like a truck. His scoring rate was just behind Boqvist, Bouchard and Wilde and was better than Dobson. Maybe better than 20th.
  5. I think Dahlin is the type of all around defenseman that all teams want and does everything really well. He is a very good version of the prototype and may turn out to be a Norris winner. I think that Hughes is a completely unique player who, if he becomes a number one, will alter what we think is the prototype. I have never seen a defenseman who plays like him.
  6. He needs to work harder than ever this summer to get in shape and get the most foot speed possible, but he seems like a great add. Attitude in the room and on the ice is good. Not as good of a skater as Guddy but much less of and adventure with the puck and uses his body more.
  7. Ehrhoff was the clear pp guy not the top overall dman. Edler was. He was awesome in that playoff.
  8. Edler should rest and sign a team-friendly contract. He has missed too much in the past few years. The rest should go.
  9. I will defer to you who clearly have watched a great deal of his games, can use your superior hockey mind to extrapolate his abilities into a far superior league, and are certain he will step in and be a first pairing nhl defender.
  10. Do I really have to explain? He came here out of shape and looked like a 4th or 5th dman for about 30 games and then bolted back to a much weaker league for 2-3 years. If you think he will just step in and be a top pairing defender, I would like to point you towards Philip Larsen and Nikita Zaitsev. Both have had spurts in the NHL and great careers in the KHL. I too have high hopes as a fan if he comes back, but mine are more realistic.
  11. Everybody is missing my point. He is playing in a far inferior league and will, most likely, at best, take a while to adjust. I am just saying it is unlikely he will be a 1st pairing nhl defender immediately.
  12. Tryamkin has 12 points in 46 games in a league where Philip Holm and Philip Larsen were all stars and Nigel Dawes is 2nd in scoring. I want him to be great too, but I don't think he will displace Edler or Tanev "immediately "
  13. I've said this before on here. The word fan derives from fanatic. It implies love of something that requires complete devotion without constantly being weighed down by reason and cynisism. I am totally serious when I say that I love reading Alf's post. They bring out the fanatic in me and get me pumped. Alf is a guy you want to go to battle with, he is all in! So many others spend so much time trying to be smarter than everyone else and seem to miss the point. Cheers to you Alf, a true fan!
  14. I believe that, for the franchise's sake, with our great scouting, we should always take BPA. The value of the asset is hugely important. We need to have as much value as we can. Free agency and trades can always fill in the blanks, but if you continually draft for position and not BPA you will degrade the overall value of your assets. My point being, there is no point discussing who we should take until we know where we will pick.
  15. I am not putting him anywhere. I am just saying that his current production is actually ahead of Weber's in his draft+1 and he was drafted 12 spots ahead of Weber. Weber had 32 pts in 60 games in his draft+1 and Woo has 54 points in 53 games. They are both RHD from the WHL who hit hard and produce offence. At this point in Weber's career, nobody would have thought he would be a perennial all star either. I am just pointing out that many 2nd round defenceman have gone on to be studs. While many top 10 d picks have gone on to be duds. Gudbranson, Schenn, Reinhart, McIlrath, Cowan, Pouliot, Koekkok, etc...
  16. Shea Weber 2.0, Marc Eduoard Vlasic 2.0, Roman Josi 2.0 all 2nd round picks. Woo is performing as well as any of them in draft +1
  17. I think that Palmu and Dahlen were both guys who played with men in their own countries last year and proved themselves and their egos didn't like being treated so much like prospects having to start from square one in Utica. Especially when they saw injuries or demotions and thought they should be given a chance on the big team. It is partially their egos and confidence that make them great prospects and players, but it also may be there downfall eventually as they may not put in the time to perfect their games and have the attitude it takes to prove it to the coaching staff. I don't think Dahlen has a better chance to make it with San Jose over the next while but we will see.
  18. He has just had one off year. Gudbranson seems like a great person who can't play hockey very well. I am happy we have him off the books.
  19. The 2 years before this year he was 31st and 36th in scoring for left wingers, that is solidly top 6 production. That means he was one of the best 2nd line LW in the league. Keep in mind that LA sucked this year and part of last and that he was not given the same opportunities in Pit and his playing time is down quite a bit. I think he will be re-invigorated and we will really like this trade.
  20. Dahlen wanted out. The Canucks have done a good job recently of developing young players. If they thought that he was a top 6 forward for sure, they would have tried to make it work. Obviously they didn't. They were not too worried about losing him. I have no idea if they could have gotten a better return, but we'll see.
  21. I would just move Spooner for Virtanen who plays well on the left side. Also, hopefully Dahlen take that over at some point.
  22. I would like to get the Best Player Available, but having said that, we particularly need a rhd but there just isn't one in the top 15. If the season ended today, we would have the 7th pick. By most mock drafts, that would land us Bowan Byram. Left Hughes Juolevi Byram Tryamkin Hutton Brisebois Sautner McEneny Right Stecher Woo Chatfield Brassard Obviously we need to make a move for some RHD prospects or sign a long term solution at the NHL level like Erik Karlsson.
  23. I have been very impressed with Virtanen's growth this year. On the ice and in interviews you can see he takes his job much more seriously. He is a professional. Green has him out there at key times now because he can be trusted. His offence is still lagging behind in his development though. I would like to see the organization take more advantage of his skills and try him on the left wing with Petey and Brock. His speed, hitting, and good shot would be a good fit. He would increase his production automatically and therefore his confidence and we would have a better player long term. And not just for 3 shifts, do it for 3-5 games and give it a chance to work. I do get frustrated that coaches seem to think players can develop instant chemistry and bale on experiments after a period. Virtanen Petey Brock Rousel(Baertschi) Horvat Leivo Spooner Gaudette Eriksson MacEwan Beagle Motte
  24. Shea Weber, Duncan Keith, RomanJosi and PK Subban were also taken in the 2nd round
  25. Petersson followed up Kovalchuk with such swagger in the shootout. Kovalchuk's play was world class. Petersson was unfazed and released a laser beam past Quick like it was never in doubt. Great goalie, hard act to follow, game on the line...no problem. He is a different breed. He blows my mind sometimes. Pts/Game by Centers John Tavares 1.11 Elias Pettersson 1.10 Evgeni Malkin 1.10 Claude Giroux 1.07 He is in 15th overall and this is the company he keeps, in his first year, when he has had 2 injuries, when he is the focus of other teams best defence. Ridiculous! Career games/points Nolan Patrick 123/50 Elias Petersson 48/53 Ridiculous!
