  1. He is not as fast as Bure but has a similar electricity and dynamism. Also has Naslund's wrist shot and Henrik's vision and soft hands. I know I am going a bit far but in 2 years he will be stronger, better and more skilled, he is going to be amazing
  2. After the initial cluster f@#$ of starting Jake at 18 in the nhl. Benning and Green regrouped and started building him from the foundation. At this point it is looking like they know what they're doing.
  3. I was looking on flashscore and they didn't list him on Yugra's roster or Omsk. But I now looked on Yugra's own site and he is listed. He hasn't played lately though. From what I can tell, the VHL is the KHL's AHL. This does not bode well for him as a prospect. He is a year older than Manukyan and Manukyan is playing on the second line in the KHL. Zhukenov is now dead to me!
  4. Anybody know what happened to Zhukenov, I can't seem to find where he is playing this year? It says he played 1 game with Yugra in the VHL, but he is not listed on their roster as far as I can see.
  5. Pouliot currently leads the NHL in +/- soak that in!
  6. I meant Glass plus who/what else would tempt Benning? I added the plus.
  7. What a bonus it would be if Pouliot put it together this year and unlocked his top4 potential. He is still young.
  8. Or is the leash the reason he was successful?
  9. There were a lot of people who wanted Cody Glass. What would it take today to give up EP? To Vegas EP To Vancouver Glass + ??? In other words how much more is EP worth today?
  10. He coached the Kamloops Blazers as well. I actually agree with him. Everybody should stop hyping him and just let him play. When the 4th winningest coach in the history of the NHL says something maybe we should listen. He would know better than all of us put together how other teams will react to an over-hyped rookie.
  11. I would like to see Jake be put in a position to play like a top 6 player. What I think he has been missing since he got here is a dynamic line with guys who have high hockey IQ's, vision, and great passing. I think that he should be on a line with EP and Baertschi. Give Goldobin a shot at the Horvat line, to bring some creativity to it. Virtanen's speed and strength and shot, but lack of vision, needs to play with EP. EP could take advatage of Jake's unique skill set. I think they are doing a disservice to Jake and his long term growth putting out with Schaller and Beagle, or Sutter for that matter. Goldobin Horvat Boeser Baertschi EP Virtanen Leipsic Sutter Eriksson Schaller Beagle Granlund Motte, Rousel IMHO this is a better balanced top 6 which gives players a chance to succeed. Hopefully, if Goldobin is slipping Dahlen is ready to come up and slot in the top 6 by then.
  12. I thought Juolevi looked great tonight. Great skater, passing, positioning and vision. Gonna be a great player!
  13. There has been some talk of Bertuzzi lately, I think we would all agree that he had top 3 talent. He didn't score 25 goals until he was 25. His goal totals were pretty low before that. I am not saying that Virtanen will equal Bert but his incredible speed, great shot and size should get him to 25 goals within the next couple of years if he is given a chance to play with talent. Right on pace with Bert. 25 goals would have put him in 17th place among RW in the nhl last year.
  14. Svechnikov is a great prospect but it is hard to imagine a toss-up between a player who had the 38th best all time ppg for a player his age in a boys league and a player who had the 2nd best all time ppg for a player his age against men just ahead of Peter Forsberg. Of course, these numbers mean nothing but with just those numbers to go on Petersson would be the obvious choice.
  15. I have to say that watching Hughes I had the same reaction that I did watching Petersson last year. I was actually at Bure's first practice with the Canucks at Brittania rink and his first game at Pacific Coliseum, and that was the same reaction as well. I am not sure how to feel because all 3 of those players do things that superstars can only do. The take over, use skills beyond those around them, and make you want to watch. Other than Naslund, the Sedins magic, maybe Gradin but I am too young to remember, there are not many Canucks, let alone prospects, that have made me feel that way. It's like you are checking your lottery numbers and you have the first 5 and your friend says you have the sixth, but the power went out and you won't know right away. You want to believe it and you kind of do, you just don't want to get too excited and be let down.
  16. I would go with Petersson Hughes Demko OJ Gaudette Dahlen Woo Dipietro Lind Utunen I also think that two of Madden, Palmu, JG, Rathbone, Jasek, Lockwood, Brisebois will knock two of the bottom six off that list.
  17. I like posts that have Hughes and Norris in the same sentence.
  18. Fair enough, but I am trying to say that I am optimistic about OJ and think that people should be pumped about him.
  19. I think a lot of #2 dmen are on the 2nd pairing. The coaches like to spread them around and have different matchups. I agree that we have too many lefties(tryamkin, Utunen, Brisebois, Hutton, Pouliot). I do believe though in 2-3 years, OJ will have many nights where he logs the most icetime and others where he is 2nd.
  20. I am really pumped for Juolevi, I think he will be like Jyrke Lumme but better. At his best Lumme was a rangy 2nd pairing dman who made things happen offensively. He always looked like he was skating in slow motion but was actually passing players. I think Juolevi is a better overall skater, much better defensively, and will bring similar offensive numbers. They both have good wrist shots that get through traffic. The years that Lumme played full seasons he had 50+ pts. I expect that from Juolevi. Great defense and 45-50 pts per season and a #1 or 2 defenseman, playing against other teams top pairs with Woo maybe. Not immediately, but soon. If this is what he becomes, this is a great pick.
  21. It will be interesting to see if we have 2 of the best d men in NCAA hockey.
  22. The only reason I would be conservative is because he isn't playing with quite the offensive players that Nylander had to start. But over the next couple of years I think Petersson will be by far the better player.
  23. Finns are excellent all around players, typically, they play great defense. If you are chosen as captain of any Finnish team and are a defenseman, you are a very good hockey player. I think Toni will be a Canuck within 3 years. We have the following d players who are 23-25 Hutton Pouliot Stecher Sautner McEneny Tryamkin I predict Stecher, Pouliot, and Tryamkin will still be around in 2 years. Although I like Hutton and am holding out hope that he really steps up this year. Hughes and Juolevi will be top 3 defensemen by then. Edler will be gone, Tanev will be gone, Biega gone, MDZ gone. Gudbranson will establish himself as a solid 2nd or 3rd pairing dman who makes lots of room for the skilled d. Brisebois will be a regular. Chatfield is over his head and will be in the AHL still. Brassard will be a career AHLer. Gunarsson will not have the puck skills to last and will be back in the SHL. Woo, Utunen and Rathbone are the one's I could see making a real move on a roster spot in 2-3 years. Woo possibly 1-2 years because of his size and he is a rhd. We have depth. 2 high end guys. Woo will be higher end than people think.
  24. I have a feeling he will light it up this year. As long as he stays healthy, he has a lot more to give than 37th OA leads one to believe. I think he makes the WJC team and comes to camp next year ready to challenge. He already has the physicality to be a pro.
  25. I agree with most of this. I guess what is important is how to define dominate? Hughes was the youngest player in NCAA and outscored Makar and Fabbro. Also had better +/-. He wasn't a ppg but those numbers look pretty good for a defenceman. I for one will be disappointed if he doesn't play this year. But I will completely understand and be glad smarter hockey people than me are making the decision.
