I think that they should keep Tanev and trade Edler. Let Hughes and Juolevi play. Hughes Tanev Juolevi Gudbranson MDZ Stecher Hutton Pouliot There are bound to be some injuries, and just let the competition between them dictate who plays. Hughes and Petersson at this point look like they may be 2 of the most talented Canucks ever. Pretty cool at 5th and 7th. Add in Horvat, Gaudette, Juolevi, Dahlen, Demko, Virtanen, Lind, and the core is looking pretty good.

I would like to get 2 firsts but I think with Tanev's injury history we would be likely to get more like this years 1st (25th) and 2nd(52nd) at best. This would be a very fair deal imho. With 5 picks in the top 68 we could do some wheeling and dealing with NYI, NYR, or PHA who have multiple 1st round picks.

Juolevi, Tryamkin, and 7th overall along with 1 or 2 of Rathbone, Brassard, Brisebois, Sautner, Mceneny, Pouliot. It actually looks pretty good. I think we could actually have a pretty strong, young defence pretty soon.

If Dahlen makes the team, it would be interesting to try Dahlen Petersson Eriksson Just for a bit in the preseason to see if it clicks. All swedes, Eriksson could be the veteran defensive presence while the boys bring the flair.

I have a feeling that Jaromir Jagr might be the only 5th OA that will be better than EP when his career is over.

Nothing Gaudette does should surprise us. He is a very good player but brings a compete level well above the average player. He seems to achieve his goals and then some. His next goal is to be a regular in the NFL.

I think after a couple of years OJ will be the best defenseman in his draft year. I think things just came a bit easy for him and how London used him in his draft +1 year seemed to throw off his development and confidence a bit. I can tell the Salo sees greatness but wants him to work hard so he speaks cautiously. He also wants to temper fans expectations for a 19 year old defenceman. I went back and looked at the consensus rankings on mynhldraft.com where they compiled them from 11 sources. Sergachev was behind OJ and Chychrun. Mcavoy was 6th ranked defenceman behind Fabbro and Bean as well. I think JB made the right choice.

Organizational depth chart on d for 2018-19 NHL season at this point. imho Edler Tanev Gudbranson MDZ Juolevi Pouliot Stecher Hutton Biega Sautner Brisebois McEneny Chatfield Depth of players under 22 for the future Juolevi Tryamkin Brisebois Gunnarson Rathbone Brassard While I do agree with BPA, we need to add defencemen with our 1st round pick and 2nd round pick. We should come out with 2 very strong additions to our pool. Hughes, Boqvist, Bouchard, or Dobson + Lundqvist, Miller, or Addison would be a huge change. It would be very nice if we could pick up another 1st or 2nd round pick or both. I think JB is an excellent evaluator or talent and trust whomever he picks, but I would like to see him have more cracks at it. This seems like a very strong draft.

I have a feeling that Backlund wishes EP was drafted by Calgary.

Bo is the kind of player you win championships. He does it all and has a great team first attitude to boot. There is nobody else that deserves it. Even if a miracle happens and we sign Tavares, Bo should be Captain and Tavares an "A" . Not like Trevor gave it up to Messier, the prick!

Bo with 2 assists this morning at the Worlds. Nice start.

I agree with you that it is okay to say negative things. I think the reason that it grates on a lot of people is that being a fan is not supposed to be about logic and reason. You are supposed to be a fanatic. Fanatics don't spend so much time trying to be cynical and be 100% accurate about a player all the time. They allow themselves to get carried away and illogical because they love their team and want something to believe in. If we were all cynical and logical we would all be Penguins fans until the Canucks make it back to the cup final. We just want to believe, within reason, and don't want to constantly be corrected by the logic police.

Some people aren't bright you have to tell us twice.

I think that was the 2017 wasn't it? They give it out in May I think.

I can't imagine that EP will not also win the Gold Helmet for SHL MVP. I wonder where this season ranks for winning accolades among the best all time Swedish seasons?

I get the feeling that Salo is just being a hard ass older brother type who thinks the sky is the limit and wants to push the best out of him. Salo is a very stoic guy who came in fit and made the most out of his talent and I think he thinks OJ can be something special but wants to make sure by not letting up.

He is leading the shl in playoff scoring. He is tied for second all time in scoring buy a 19 year old in the playoffs. He still has some games to go. He has the most points per game of a 19 year old who is played more than six playoff games. He has the best plus-minus of any 19 year old ever in the playoffs. This is getting ridiculous!

Like who? Sandlak, Hodgson? The only truly top flight prospects I remember are Linden, Bure, Sedin, and Sedin. We have also had some much lesser known prospects like Kesler, Burrows and Hansen become huge contributors.

I have found it funny that so many Canucks fans are so guarded and cynical about Petersson. When I say "have you seen his stats", "have you seen his dangles"? they always respond with some tried an true "wait and see!" or "it doesn't mean anything yet" I look at it like this. I can only guess the future based on the present. I look at a guy who did something Thomas Gradin, Markus Naslund, Daniel, Henrik, Zetterberg, Backstrom, Forsberg, and Nilsson didn't do. Now he is leading his team to a championship and leading the playoffs in scoring, at 19. His coach said "we haven't taught him, he's teaching us!" All in an era that is tougher to score in. If somebody wants to be cynical and skeptical about that, their life must really suck. If, based on current facts, you cannot get even slightly excited about the future, what is the point of following the sport. If there was a new music act that was taking over the world at a young age and they were coming to your town next year and their performances had been amazing. Would those same people buy tickets but then spend the year saying "yeah, but they will likely suck when they get to my town because it is a bigger stadium"?

I am not saying he is the next Gretzky, but he does kind of play and skate like him. He seems to see the game a couple of steps ahead like Gretzky did. I doubt he will get 3000 points. I doubt he will set annual scoring records. I do, however, think he may have the makings of our next great star. He is special. His teammates have been around and the way they talked about him was on a when different level than the way teammates usually talk about their top players.

Wow the goalies look small, slow and unathletic.

I think the sky is still the limit for this guy. He is big, a good skater and has very high hockey IQ. I think people are underselling him. I think he still has the chance to be a #1 or, at worst, a great #2 like Ohlund or Edler. They were both guys who contributed huge minutes and point for years and were cornerstones of the defence, while not being Norris trophy types. I think he might have had too much success too soon, like Puljujarvi, and he might have gotten a bit ahead of himself.

I think that adjusted for era Bo actually might be a better scorer. Linden's best year was 80 pts in 82 games. The leading scorer that year had 161 and 6 players broke 110. I like your other points though.
-
Horvat is a more traditional Captain like Steamer and Linden. Gritty, not the top scorer but contributes in many ways. He is a slam dunk and a great example to the younger players.
-
This is an odd choice. Petersson broke the all time record, lead his team, lead the league and his team came 1st. Dahlin was 18th in the league for defense and 3rd on his team and his team came 3rd. Anyway, they were both amazing and defense are not judged as much by points. Hard to give it to Dahlin but maybe it was because they will give EP the MVP and wanted to give Dahlin some love.
