  1. nonsense. watch the play again. They spent a long time in their zone - long before that there was both a failed clear - a much easier opportunity to clear than what Virtanen had - and then a tired/frustrated slashing penalty taken by Juolevi. Jake's was the last and the puck was in the net shortly after - and thus he's the scapegoat. You're arguing from emotion and denial - not observation.
  2. that's not 'disrespect'. it's a dose of simple reality. I have a world of respect for these young players - I realize their talent, their importance and most of all - that they are going to make mistakes = they are not in their 'prime', not even close. If you want to respect them - don't patronize them, or blame their mistakes on their coach. Constructive criticism is being direct and honest. When Hughes stays on the ice for 2 and a half minutes and takes a penalty at the end of it - that results in a gwg - that's a Hughes mistake, period. Railing against the Sutters, Beagles, Virtanens, Edlers, etc - while wilfully fanboy blinding oneself to the limits of these young players - is not 'respect.'
  3. but your restaurant is only as good as the dishwasher. if the plates aren't clean - nothing else matters. but nevermind...lol....I think we need a new dishwasher.
  4. The snowshower forecheck drives me nuts. He has an opportunity to put the body on a Lame D - and he does the LE. Unacceptable. Hoglander has been a bloody puck hound - all over the ice - takeaways, winning board battles, creating a whole lot of space drawing attention both in the zone and on the rush - and Horvat and Pearson are taking next to no advantage of it. 8 even strength points for Horvat and Pearson in 19 games....is not very good. When is that last time you saw Horvat bull his way to the net? I have a hard time recalling - might almost have to go back to the St Louis series for highlights.
  5. I love that about EP. He looks at himself first and foremost (one of the rock solid consistently positive things about the Sedins as well).
  6. Yes. It makes me laugh to listen to people in here blaming the loss on Virtanen. It's absurd. Even that goal that came after he did not clear (was doubled virtually instantly by Mackey and Lucic) - there were a string of failed clears and errors that culminated in that goal - Virtanen's at worst, was the 3rd worst 'error' on that play....
  7. This really is a young star fanboy market. Love to fluff the 'stars' endlessly. But don't have the vision, or sense, to see the obvious limits of their young players. "EP is an elite shutdown center". "Hughes is a #1 - already had one of the best seasons for a Canucks D all-time." Hughes last night - does not have the sense to get tf off the ice - taking arrogant ridiculously long double shifts - and in the end - he took an exposed, exhaustion penalty that resulted in the game-winning overtime powerplay goal. But....it's all Green or Baumgartner's fault. Don't have the sense or guts to name it what it is - a young "star" making mistakes. Instead of realizing that 20 year olds tend to come with growing pains - Vancouver deludes itself that players like Hughes are 'in their prime', ready to carry this team, and being dragged down by overpriced veterans. What an absolute noob take. This market fluffs them endlessly and prematurely - and does a disservice in the process. What courage and analytical genius it takes to fanboy the stars. Get off the ice and stop disrespecting your team-mates Quinn. Ironically, they tied the game up with you in the box. That's an important learning window. EP - lacking confidence - not taking shots - faking that one timer on the powerplay time and time again - but....it's all Brown's fault. I'm not going to bother to post EP's outcomes - they're no more flattering than Hughes (if as). There's no point in being critical - the young guy is a brilliant talent that works hard and bleeds frustration due to his desire to play at the top of his game - at both ends of the ice. I have nothing but patience for him - but realistically - he too still needs to play with a foundation. This team needs it's Motte, Beagle, Sutter, Edler types far more than it realizes. This market was oblivious to how much it needed Tanev - that would be my main critical point regarding the offseason - Tanev imo should have been priority #1. That said - there is no deadline to find a partner for Hughes. Yeah - he's going through some growing pains playing with an 8th man, a LHD in Benn (and a rusty Hamonic before him). That remains the top priority for the franchise imo - whether they acquire a young RHD, or potentially have that player already in the system. I am looking forward to seeing what Tryamkin looks like beside Hughes - that may be one 'ace' that influenced those decisions...
  8. I thought Roussel looked better the past few nights - notably skating better. Last night 37.5% ozone starts 56.5% corsi Lead the team with 4 hits. I'd probably leave him on Sutter's wing for now - that line has been effective - and replace LE with Mac on the Beagle line. LE brings 'reliability' without the puck - but he's still hard to watch...(I respect Green's decisions - he's coaching to win - but at this point, I might sacrifice a bit to get the younger MacEwen in - and make his Mom happy.)
  9. Toffoli has 2 goals in 10 games this season that did not come against this team. Pretending that the team would be better off with him than Hoglander - is debatable at best. I get it - it serves the fishbowl drama this market loves to dwell on - but the player the team really misses was on Calgary's blueline last night. Tanev last night had 13 dzone starts, 3 o, 18.8% ozone starts, 42.5% corsi, 2 hits and a block. On the season 45.0% ozone starts 53.3% corsi 3pts, +4, 28 blocks .953 on ice sv% 20:47/game, 3:14/game shorthanded 2.1 on ice goals for per 60 at es 1.2 against. Outstanding.
  10. Edler - once again last night - an absolute force. 12 dzone starts, 29.4% 26 on ice shot attempts for, 23 against 53.1% corsi 24:03 ice time, on the season 32.7% ozone starts 50.0% corsi 3:41/game on the penalty kill -4 at es btw - for those of you that think Hughes is the team's #1 67.9% ozone starts 50.3% corsi 4:42/game on the powerplay -14 at es, 4.6 on ice goals against per 60.... (but Tanev was "dragging him down" last season....)
  11. What's annoying about Tketchup are not simply his antics - but also the responses to him. Myers had the best approach thus far this season when he simply got full value with a shiver. People whine constantly about Virtanen - but he's the only guy that got in Tketchup's face last night - dropped his gloves and was ready to go while Tketchup kept his on and clutch and grabbed in avoidance. Kudos to Virtanen for being game while not crossing the line and taking a penalty in a very tight game. The captain, on the other hand - looked away/turned the other cheek - where he needs to be showing Tketchup an appropriate level of both pushback and disrespect. That - along with another generally light effort by Horvat was the most disappointing aspect of that loss imo (and I'm not simply microing his back-breaking giveaway). Aside from set play powerplay goals and faceoffs - Horvat's game has been sub par - and when that's the case with your captain, it's hard to be calling out depth players - borderline inappropriate to be. Virtanen last night had 0% ozone starts, 41.7% corsi, 2 shots and a hit (in 6:52....Horvat had 2 hits in 19:54 to give with the LE snowshower non-hit on the forecheck). The goal after Virtanen didn't manage to clear the zone (with a fraction of time and a blueliner and Lucic on him...) - there were a chain of errors/mistakes on that play that preceded, included a worse failure to clear, and an exhaustion/frustration 'slash' that Juolevi took (an extremely rare incident where Juolevi wasn't at the top of his game). In any event, the dwelling on Virtanen gets that much more absurd on a night like last night - where the real gaffs - and vacancies - came from the top down. MIller has been taking comparable heat - but right before the Boeser goal to tie the game, he absolutely ran over a defenseman in the neutral zone and set the tone that, shorthanded or not, they meant business = that lifted the team. The other best hit of the night came in one of Virtanen's 6+ minutes - where he wrecked the opposing captain/Giordano.
  12. 15. inexcusable that they keep rewarding that idiot's behaviour - while at the same time they throw the whistle away where Roussel is concerned - free shots at Roussel - while they protect and enable that smarmy little prick.
  16. The Flames are not a "bad team" (unless by "bad" you mean a gaggle of milkhotdogs). They're annoying af, but they're a well built team - Treliving has made a lot of good moves. I remember that asshat Specter mocking Calgary when Deadmonton won yet another lottery - the McDavid lottery - and he could not stop trash talking Calgary's mediocre, improper rething....ironically, the Flames have 27 more pts than the Coil in the McDavid era.
  17. The one thing I'd say - particularly if you're still active in fantasy hockey - is that I wouldn't rely at all on Pronman - as one of our CDCGML peers (who is far more adept than Pronman) aptly put it = "he's not a scout". I didn't comment on the 9 periods - so assuming I "did not" isn't accurate (what I pointed out is that they were dominated 27-7 in shots through 40 in the 3rd game - and were lucky to get a victory - not advisable to 'toy' with many teams that way). Whether I think they have a better prospect pool (or even roster depth) are the principal points. I don't put a lot of stock in first month covid results....as I mentioned, the Leafs have been projecting themselves as SCC the first month of every season for the past 5 years...second half of the season - not so much. We'll see if Manny can work wonders with them.
  18. Korshkov A 31st overall pick. One of the stockpiles the genius and Spamaplan were going to use to dominate the NHL forever! 11 picks that year....but they nailed the 1st overallololol!!!!! Anyhow - this is a strange deal imo. Why they had to give up Korshkov (who has 31pts in the KHL and is one of their better two way prospects) is curious. I also have to wonder whether: a) Dubas continues to not give a crap about what his coaches want/need (as was patently and publicly obvious was the case with Babcock), or b) Galchenyuk is a Manny project.
  19. yeah - the thing I really like about Schmidt is that he's always dead set intent on moving the puck immediately. he makes mistakes, but he also makes decisions so quickly that he's a real asset to the transition game, and he creates a 'tone' of moving the puck rapidly, with intent. His first pass is usually quite good. I think we'll have to live with the odd mistake - it's part of being a puck moving defenseman.
  20. your claim that EP or Hughes are best 'with a full head of steam' is not an argument against the drop pass - which in no way prevents a 'full head of steam' your criticism makes no sense. and you're under the impression that it's a Brown playbook thing - which is false - but what's even weaker is to attempt to sandbag the Devils, winners of multiple Stanley Cups. That virtually every team in the NHL employs it must be evidence that it's a failing strategy. they're actually having more problems with guys like EP, Hughes, Miller attempting to force a controlled entry, with 'a full head of steam' and going 1 on multiple defenders, leading to lost possession and retrieving the puck from behind their net.
  21. It depends on who/what you're referring to as an upgrade - relative to. But let's give Schmidt the benefit of his actual outcomes here. 36.5% ozone starts. 49.0% corsi 3.3 on ice goals for per 60 2.7 against 2:37/game pk minutes. He only has 3 pts, but he's +3. He's also 2nd to Myers in blocked shots. So he's effectively playing shutdown minutes - and the team is winning both the possession battle and his goal metrics are very good/they're winning the 'scoring battle' as well with him on the ice. There's room for improvement - but those are outcomes you generally take.
  22. you're making zero sense. and btw - the powerplay drop pass has been around for nearly 20 years - employed by the Stanley Cup Champion Devils in the Pat Burns era.
  23. Ironically, it's the highest percentage zone entry play, used league wide. and btw - it takes place in the neutral zone, so it does not preclude EP (or Hughes) from still gaining a controlled entry.
  24. A daft attempt to blame the coach for braincramp mental errors made by the captain and a veteran D?
