LE needs to finish his checks on the forecheck, not stop up short with a snow shower of avoidance of engaging the puck holder. -
Cassie nailed it regarding the team 'cheating' the game before getting on track the past few games. Forwards blowing the zone, before taking care of exits, not simplifying puck movement, relying on a predictable level of stretch passes, not making the simple first pass.....all contributing to the giveaways they could not defend, that all seemed to end up in the back of the net. Great analysis/call Cassie - and nailed Markstrom's strengths as well. Really hard to see him in a jersey that isn't Vancouver.

The right message - and the right timing imo - I think ownership made a a good move today. -
you refer to Sutter, Beagle (and Gaudette) as "sub par" centers? with the assumption that Bennett would be better? Wadr, look at Bennett's outcomes - and production in bottom six minutes - let alone his defensive outcomes, before jumping to this asumption - and have a closer look at Sutter's. I also don't know if I share you perspective on DeBrusk as a gritty 3rd line winger. and then you propose to have Gaudette center the 4th line in two years? I don't think I'd roll with your plan.

They are only 5 -4-3. I'm not sure I'd tag them as 'underachieving' quite yet - they've only played a dozen games, so the standings can be misleading. 8 of their top 10 scorers are also 28 years or older - so they are considerably 'veteran' relative to Vancouver. But if they were looking expansion - or not necessarily prioritizing short term results (I doubt they're that concerned at this point) - Mayfield would be a nice take/potential good fit here, with an excellent contract (and with Pulock and Dobson on their RS...still doubt they'd move him, because he's a very affordable guy that can play hard minutes and pk for them)

[Discussion] Tanner Pearson Can We Really Keep him?
oldnews replied to Rush17's topic in Canucks Talk
I think if you're going to ask whether it's possible - you look at the reality of possibility. You cite 'bloated bottom 6 contracts'.....but both Pearson and Sutter expire this year - as does Edler and Benn. Next year Eriksson, Roussel and Beagle all expire....I personally would not include Beagle or Sutter in the bottom six drama in this market but that's beside the point. Yes - they could re-sign Pearson - if he were considered a priority. Personally I probably would not consider him that - and further I'd be looking to move winger cap this year, if at all possible - so if Roussel can't be moved, I might move on to Pearson. And right now - the most pressing need is Hughes' partner - particularly with a RHD like Hamonic out....so if they could take care of that, it also makes Benn more moveable/expendible. Anyhow - I probably leave a top 6 spot open for competition - particularly Podkolzin - and continue to maintain a relative foundation, particularly at center in the bottom six. I think Sutter probably could be re-signed at a lower cost than Pearson - so imo that might make sense - barring a deal of Gaudette or Virtanen for a center....
