It's this underlying wish/hope that the team fails - that I find annoying. The constant hair-trigger hopes that things go awfully - so that the team can get rid of a whole range of whipping boys. I'm not a big 'fan' of some of the players I defend - or all the moves that management makes - but I sure as hell am not going to run shade constantly at players like Virtanen, or Myers, or Edler - or whoever the hate-flavour-of-the-week is. That's not 'team-player' material - it's childish me-first, counterproductive noise. Being real, or critical of players - doesn't require going to the compulsive point a huge part of this market does - essentially constantly seeking to see failure - to satisfy a bent - a confirmation of personal dislike for particular players or management. That is what rubs me the wrong way - and why I make a point of 'defending' our assets - imo there is nothing less prudent than devaluing your own assets. Who really cares about CDC in that sense, but it's an entirely valid point regarding the broader media (reducing themselves to twittiots a lot of the time) and all the flake heat they produce around the team may not effect real world trade values, but it wears constantly on the young players who have to sit in on all those media scrums. Personally, I wouldn't be making them available - I'd have a media officer that manages the idiocy out of their days.

[Rumour] Predators interested in Adam Gaudette
oldnews replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
I like this valuation better than your other proposal. The only problems I'd see with this - is 1) Gaudette is a 950k cap hit, Kunin is 2.3 million - and 2) Kunin, like Gaudette, is a natural center, who's been on and off as a RW conversion....so he'd need to cut it as a capable 'bottom six 6' in due course to make sense. What I'd prefer about Kunin - is imo he's a better two way player - more 'proven' in more difficult minutes than Gaudette - so there's probably more likelihood with Kunin. So that deal would be hard to argue with - but I'd stil prefer a Trenin or Paul - who are heavier, who could be converted to the greater need at LW if they don't stick at center, and who make more cap sense. -
Motte's 70 hits in 15 games is a 383 hits / 82 games - an insane pace. And Miller has 38 in 14 games - which tracks as 223 hits in 82 games... Virtanen is tracking at 191 hits/82. Roussel 32 in 16 - 164... MacEwen, Edler, Beagle, Pearson all, likewise, tracking for some pretty high hit totals. I think the OP probably means a face-puncher moreso.... I'd propose Roussel to Deadmonton for Kassian (again lol) - but the Coil gave Kassian a 4 year x 3.2 million deal - so I'm not sure that's 'cap friendly' for this team.... Not easy to find a guy that can play - at reasonable terms - that can also provide 'enforcement'.

There are few pairs of players as comparable as Komarov and Roussel - in so many ways. And both have identical 3 million cap hits with a year of term remaining beyond this season. I've always liked how miserable Komarov is to play against. If he weren't 34 I'd be more keen to make a hockey trade between these two - if for no other reason than Komarov is a bit 'heavier' imo and doesn't tend to get the special attention that NHL officials give Roussel. Ideally Roussel's contract could be moved without a return, but alternatively, I might deal him for Komarov (as 'hockey trade' as they get).

(Rumour) Virtanen on the trade block
oldnews replied to Wayne Glensky's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Where he was selected in the draft is no more relevent at this point than Virtanen's draft position (who, btw is a far, far more proven NHL player than Zboril - 291 NHL games to 14 (I find it ironic that there's no "sample size" objections to your claims lol). I think your radically revised value is more 'reasonable' - but again, I'm not sure what you're relying on to make the assumptions you are. Former 13th overall with a small sample is not enough...certainly not for Virtanen, Gaudette, Chatfield and a 2nd.... How Virtanen and Gaudette could both be the 13th forward also makes little sense. And Zboril is another LHD - not really a need. The idea that he looks like he's going to be a 'consistent' top 4 is premature - based on a tiny sample of a 14 game NHL 'career'. He's getting 62.6% ozone starts in those games - the highest on Boston's blueline - has two points - playing with a veteran (fairly prototypical sheltered rookie minutes)...a bit over a minute of powerplay ice time... There is nothing particularly special about Zboril's small sample - so you'd have to have a considerable eye test - of having seen enough of the player to convince you that he's tracking to be a 'consistent top 4' - which I doubt you have. His AHL outcomes aren't particularly impressive either. He might make a reasonable hockey trade for a Gaudette - but his draft position means nothing - and he'd be the higher risk - whereas Gaudette has 143 NHL games to assess. But the bottom line for me - is that a LHD is not really a need - you'd be dealing from the position the team arguably has the most young depth at - RW - to another position the team doesn't really need. -
I see what you mean. Typically sheltering means avoiding matchups wherever possible, along with high ozone starts (avoiding dzone starts wherever possible) and having veteran partners (or linemates) to buffer the player's exposure.

You don't seem to be aware that the pick in the Miller deal has already gone to Tampa - who in turn traded that pick to New Jersey, along with Nolan Foote, for Blake Coleman. New Jersey used that pick (the 20th overall in last summer's draft) to select Shakir Mukhamadullin - a KHL defenseman. "That's gonna hurt" - as if the 2021 pick is still in play - makes no sense.
