[Rumour] Predators interested in Adam Gaudette
oldnews replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
flashes of greatness are all well and good. but you don't win with flashes - it starts with a steady effort and attention without the puck. In 12 games playing less than 10 minutes (including a minute and a half on the powerplay, he is second worst on the team at -8. 1.2 on ice goals for, 3.7 against. And it's not simply a small sample where he has struggled - he's been getting beaten badly for 142 games now... Regardless of that - he's a talented young player, he's only 24, he's going to get better. He looked like he'd taken a step early this year, but he's flagged rather quickly. However the real question is "where is Gaudette's path to remaining on this roster?" He's not tracking as a capable NHL center, at least certainly not a 'bottom 6' center, or the kind of bottom 6 this team can utilize in the forseeable future. As a RW conversion - he has no path to the top6 - he's not a good fit on Sutter's line with the kind of minutes Sutter plays - he's at the position of the most young depth in the franchise.... So you see if you can move him for a player at a position of greater need - but you only do so if the return makes sense/is reasonable. It isn't reducible to 'giving up' on a player, or simply looking short term. He's essentially a surplus young player - dealing him makes a lot of sense. -

That's "World" news at the National Post. No wonder we're on the brink of extinction. -

I hear they're hiring at the canucksmarmy. -
Yes. But they are the expertz! Horvat is just reading the script. Everyone else is wrong - a bunch of flat earthers who lack the attention span to read twitter. The solution is obvious - JD Burke, the next GM of this team. Go smarm go! Vancouver - where media never fail to set a new standard of mindless. You gotta love this market (when they're not burning the city down).

[PROPOSAL] Adam Larsson
oldnews replied to Elias Pettersson's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
I like Larsson and agree he'd be a good fit for this team's needs - and he's probably undervalued as a result of his time in Edmonton (and injury) , so he could be a good FA target, especially if he'd like to play with Edler, EP, Hoglander.... We'll probably be in the minority - folks here don't tend to like this kind of player - but I wouldn't hesitate if the price is reasonable. -

"A second big win".... If that was a solid source, then yeah- the Habs got lucky.... And look at them now... Chiarot Weber Edmundson Petry is a pretty enviable top 4. To the Leafs credit, Holl is a big upgrade on Gardiner... Gardiner was just such a liability - that they (had to?) overutilize. Their top 4 is arguably improved - which makes a big difference imo. They've finally moved away from the Gardiner, Barrie type second pairing and have Muzzin and Holl - who can actually matchup. -

true - and especially when he's been injured as much as he has been here - it reduces his sample, it arguably degrades what he can command in free agency - so from a personal/individual viewpoint, he has an interest in performing to 'prove'/show what he's (still) capable of - and staying healthy - but I think in fairness to him, we've seen constant intervals of his game raising, getting up to speed, and then an injury - and cycles of it. He's never really leveled out / declined the way a few team-mate veteran wingers have - so I wouldn't reduce him playing well in the present to a contract year. -

I agree with you. I don't think Gaudette has been ready to play center - perhaps the reason they have him on the 3rd line is the idea that you go with who you perceive to be your best players - sometimes Gaudette looks like he belongs in the lineup, often he doesn't. I've looked at it as a development sacrifice of sorts - riding out some growing pains hoping he might take the next step. But I think it's a good time to deal him - because really, as a RW he's arguably at the position of the most young depth - so altering the balance somewhere else probably makes sense. If they could get a comparable natural center playing LW, then they may have a succession for Pearson or Roussel.... -

Posted this in the LE waivers thread.... Anisimov also on waivers today.....got me scheming. Maybe there's the possibility of a 'taxi squad deal'....? LE and Gaudette to Snottawa for Anisimov....(would love to add a pick to that and poach Paul, but 'little steps' lol. -

if the primary goal were to get secondary scoring - maybe that would be more of a priority - but Sutter at very high dzone starts - I think the priority is shutdown and trying to provide as much opportunity for the top 6 as possible. if/when the group gets a bit more experienced (as well as the blueline) - that could be a good element to keep an eye on....and they're probably going to have some pretty good talented young depth at forward. -

both Richie (Brad) and Nate Thompson are UFAs again this coming offseason.... If they do rent Sutter, or 'let' him expire/not re-sign him, I think they need to bring in another veteran. And ideally - get a Paul/Trenin type that could continue to be developed on the wing of a veteran. I think EP could wind up back at center in due course - he plays the game the right way already, for the most part (and is only 22). I also really like Costmar - he's only 19, but has an impressive game without the puck imo. -

speaking of the Canes and Jakes......that Jake Gardiner deal... had disaster written all over it before the ink dried. -

Beagle has another year of term. I'd re-sign Sutter personally, if he's willing to take a significant haircut -
waiving him right now might indicate an intent to assign him. it certainly doesn't indicate an intent to protect him from being claimed.... they haven't had the leverage thus far to assign him - so there wasn't much point - but the AHL Candian division does fire up in two days, on the 12th so... My guess is he's headed there. I don't think it makes sense to keep him on the taxi squad - guys like MacEwen, Bailey have played to well to justify any further NHL minutes for LE....Michaelis has yet to play (and perhaps Hawryluk returns sometime soon?) And I agree - it'd be a real act of 'good faith' for him to hang them up. God knows he's been aptly rewarded/compensated for his on ice contributions.

regardless of the ELC factor - Motte is the best player value presently - possibly the best player on the ice for the team thus far this season, period (regardless of cap value). He has 5 goals in 15 games. He leads the team - and the league with 70 hits (or at least he was when he got injured). He's been getting an extremely low 22.9% ozone starts, with a corsi of 48.1%. He's a principal penalty killer. With all due respect to Hughes and Pettersson... Hughes corsi is 0.1% higher than Motte's - with 67% ozone starts. Hughes is -13, Motte -1. EP's is 46.5%, with 76% ozone starts, he also has worse goal metrics (and is -3). -

He's playing 12:13 / game. Which isn't splitting hairs - it's twice what you're misrepresenting. It's worth pointing out - because it's a matter of accuracy - and if you're misrepresenting the facts, your 'staunch defense' has little credibility. -

that opening line is wut? material. you think a player has no value, but believe packaging him accomplishes more? I like Lindholm but he's a 5.2 million cap hit that expires as a UFA at the end of next season. He's also another LHD. Don't like that deal you've crafted. You've removed 3 roster players, and still haven't created enough cap for Lindholm - so you're creating an additional need - to shed more cap. And really have no interest in dumping Juolevi into a package at this point. They need to add to their young group of blueliners - not spend them. -

they had to move on. he was not serviceable in the window where there was plenty of room for him. and had he not suffered those concussions, he would have been far more moveable regardless. -

no one needs to "explain Baertschi". it's as simple as one word: concussions. no one can be 'blamed' for that - it's the nature and risk of playing in the NHL.
