  1. I am literally comparing where they are now - their last season. You are overstating the belief that DeBrusk's previous seasons indicate much better outcomes than he acheived last year - you are talking about a 7/8 pt difference - in the midst of contending and winning a cup - in seasons he had 65-70% ozone starts. What he was last year, is pretty much what he is. And again, I ask you or anyone to answer the question where you propose he fits on this team.
  2. I hear a story there - about having a more 'complete game' and an assumption that DeBrusk faces more 'top6' competition (than a Sutter line, for example?) - but I don't see what qualifies your opinion. And again - I'd have to ask where you propose to play him?
  3. exactly. if they're shopping for needs right now - which is what NHL GMs actually do (not make senseless, desperation deals for assets they don't need) - then you're looking at players like Carlo (although he's a pipe-dream in the sense there's next to no chance Boston is looking to or entertaining moving him). My thoughts go to the guy already mentioned in this thread - Cal Foote - and players like Scott Mayfield, who may be difficult for the Isles to protect, and who are relatively strong at RHD (ie Dobson is their #3 rhd - and they have Pulock at 1rhd. And still, a guy like Mayfield, with an excellent contract like his, woud be costly - and the Isles just went to the ECF - so they're very competitive....wouldn't be an easy player to acquire. Josh Manson would also be on my list (if he weren't on IR for 6 weeks...) - he's probably devalued in the present (and comes with a 4.1 million cap hit that prohibits a lot of buyers)... they'd have to eat cap in return - ie Roussel - but he might be worth keeping an eye on (would love to poach Sam Steel from Anaheim as well, but not necessarily a 'need' as much as a want - would move Gaudette for him though if they can't get a player like Nick Paul for him.
  4. same - and have made a lot of proposals to poach him - particularly last offseason, when Tampa once again looked to be in a pickle (still not sure how they wiggled out of the offseason). But there's really no way they can protect him (in the e.d.) - so he remains a very good target imo - that I'd be constantly keeping an eye on.
  5. you've posted nothing to 'turtle' from. 'grasping at straws' is wut? material. wut? was that supposed to mean?
  6. If Tampa were to deal Cal Foote, it would probably be for no other reason than the expansion draft. So you'd probably have to give them someone/something exempt - ie a 1st round pick. And still, because they're in a window - they also probably aren't going to want to weaken their roster, so they'd probably want an affordable roster player? Hamonic and a 1st? Gaudette for Nick Paul. Virtanen - we keep - simply because that skillset is bloody difficult to find/acquire - and as patient as people here believe they've been, they don't really know patience imo. I'm not ready to sell low on Virtanen - and most people here tend to assume the return would be low - so what is the point? He's a better risk than selling low for a longshot asset, or poor fit.
  7. Never cared for Louie as a player - but he's a really good colour commentator imo - professional, no evident homer tendencies - I think he's one of the best, presently. But still not a good argument for acquiring his son, who doesn't really make sense for this team imo.
  8. Ironically, Nick Ritchie has never cracked 31 pts. and happens to be Boston's 2RW right now. That's who DeBrusk is 'competing' with. Sam 18yr old Bennett taken over Virtanen - arguably no better, if as good. Michael Dal Colle taken over Virtanen....19 career NHL points thus far. Grass is always greener.
  9. do you have a point, then? if you don't even believe it fixes anything - what the hell is the point? what do you want DeBrusk for? Where are you going to play him?
  10. Still waiting for someone to show where they propose to use DeBrusk if this deal were to take place. On the 2nd line in Pearson's spot? Pearson is not only more productive (21 goals, 45 pts last year) in harder minutes than DeBrusk - and plays a heavier game than DeBrusk, but Horvat's line also serves a dual purpose quite often, as a secondary shutdown line (or matchup line) - so substituing DeBrusk there means you believe he's as good a player without the puck as Pearson is. That's not remotely the case. So hard scratch that option. And of course, he's nowhere good enough to displace someone on the top line. Do you propose to use him on Sutter's wing. That's an ever worse option/proposal than displacing Pearson for him. He's just the type you move up and down the lineup or use in bottom six minutes. 65.4% career ozone starts - and not the time to make a project of converting him into a relatively lightweight two-way player. He's simply not a fit here, period. But who bothers going to step 2 in the thought process? Just do it! Anything for Jake! No plan is good enoughzzz!!! Fire Bennig if he doesn't trade Jake!
  11. Yeah, to this day people repeat that dumbass one-liner...."defend the 0-0 tie". They were the best possession team in the NHL, lead the league in scoring - and people whined that he was too much of a 'defense-first' coach. The irony is that playing defense first is what leads to scoring more. You can't score if you can't regain possession, period. Such a simple 'dialectic' - but the vast majority of people - who know nothing at all about the game - or sport in general - believe that playing defense 'stifles offense, or 'stifles' creativity. It's about the most counterproductive falsehood you can cling to regarding a game like hockey.
  12. Eddie was a whipping boy lots of times - particularly when Torturefella was using him as a rented mule. This is a market that always needs one, but never (in general) know what the hell they're talking about.
  13. Yawn. You responded to 28 lines with a weak one-liner. Yours is the willful blindness - I posted actual outcomes - which you can't address except with doubled down ignorant one-liners. Any lines I've wasted since are just that - a waste of time. If you have any subtance to offer, post it.
  14. even EP and Hughes are in the mix now....entitled, lazy.....takes this fanbase about two weeks to turn on anyone.
  15. That's what I though - you're a one-liner champion. Anyone that makes trades informed by one-liners shouldn't even bother with fantasy hockey.
  16. I already answered your question at length. If you have a counterpoint, let alone case, let it rip - I'm all ears. Question - where would you propose to play DeBrusk in this lineup?
  17. Your one line is silly. Do your homework and make a proper case. All you're doing here is countering outcomes with hard-headed nonsense / an arrogant one-liner that you've backed up with nothing.
  18. he showed up out of shape, took forever to get in shape. and floated around like a someone cashing in on the verge of retirement. he was the worst player on the team when the puck wasn't on his stick. a nice story has been spun though - about his 'influence' on the Sedins and Kesler....showed them how not to be a professional.
  19. and evidently would rather see Messier in a Canucks jersey. or Eriksson. or a floating Mats Sundin at 10 million. sorry but I think you were seriously embellishing there.
  20. If people here are whining about Virtanen's production.... DeBrusk 1 pt in 6 games 81.8% ozone starts 3 hits 1.6 on ice goals for, 2.4 against. He's played primarily with Bergeron and Marchand in those 6 games. Virtanen 1 pt in 11g. 42.6% ozone starts 25 hits. 2.5 on ice goals for, 1.0 against. Last year Debrusk 19g, 16a, 35 pts, -1 35 hits 16:03/game 59.1% ozone starts 2:33 /game powerplay ice time. Virtanen 18g, 18a, 36 pts, -4 102 hits 13:05/game 52% ozone starts 0:52 pp ice time. Pass on a Virtanen, DeBrusk deal. That's DeBrusk on a contender btw, playing on Krejci's line. Virtanen on the other hand is moving all over the place, and has played primarily on bottom six lines with Sutter, Gaudette. No thanks. DeBrusk is a top6 or bust type player - Virtanen can be a valuable bottom six guy that can move up the lineup - has played a lot more hard minutes....
  21. Lock it up. That's not a trade rumour - it's MacIntyre wondering who the whipping boy would be if Virtanen weren't here.
  22. I think that's a really good idea - particularly when they've lost one of their best defensive forwards...
